He Walks in Beauty Like the Night

Act II
Chapter 8: In Secret Kept (In Silence Sealed)
In their youth, Yuuri and Viktor were nigh inseparable—forgoing the company of others their own age to mingle instead with each other. Young as they were, neither set of parents tried to discourage their amity.
For the Katsukis, it was an honour to be so linked to a Great family. For the Ladies Hertford, they were beyond a care—beyond reproach and dismissive of petty rumours.
There was no discussion of propriety, for what harm could come from a boyhood friendship?
Alas, they were no longer children.

“Isn’t that what High Lords do?” My breath clouded in front of me in the brisk night. “Whatever they please?” He studied my face. “There are a great many things that I wish to do, and don’t get to.”
A Court of Mist and Fury Pg 286
Everytime I read this scene I shiver. Feyre’s question is so innocent, especially coming from her relationship with Tamlin. She thinks thats the norm. But Rhys wants her more than anything, loves her more than anything, but refuses to push her too fast. He knows she needs time to heal. He knows that ultimately, no matter how much he needs her, the decision to be together lies in her hands.
“Feyre,” Tamlin groaned a third time, pushing a hand against what indeed looked like an invisible, curved wall of hardened air. “Please. Please.” Those words cracked something in me. Cracked me open. Perhaps they cracked that shield of solid wind as well, for his hand shot through it. Then he stepped over that line between chaos and order, danger and safety. He dropped to his knees, taking my face in his hands. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” I couldn’t stop trembling. “I’ll try,” he breathed. “I’ll try to be better. I don’t … I can’t control it sometimes. The rage. Today was just … today was bad. With the Tithe, with all of it. Today— let’s forget it, let’s just move past it. Please.”
A Court of Mist and Fury Pg 101
This scene always struck me hard in ACOMAF. Domestic abuse is such a complex issue and Sarah J Maas describes it so masterfully in her book. It isn’t easy to just get up and go. It is easy to fool yourself that everything will get better - that he loves you and wouldn’t really hurt you.
But sometimes love can be too much, and not enough, at the same time.
Rhys cocked his head, his mouth tightening. “You truly think I’m a monster, even after everything.”
A Court of Mist and Fury pg 69
I find it so devastatingly sad that Rhys can see how people view him. They can’t see his heart through the darkness. He is alone. He can sense the fear coming from her, the distrust, from the the one person who should know him best. His mate. It’s also one of the reasons I love him so much. Regardless of how Feyre saw him, Rhys was determined to be good. He wasn’t the beast the world thought it knew.
Ranma 1/2 Timeline Confirmed!
So I was going through the manga because I was trying to figure out what the time line was.
The story starts when both Ranma and Akane are 16. In the first couple of chapters they are shown surrounded by rain and are wearing casual clothes that don’t seem too summery or too wintry. This is over the course of the first few chapters so it wasn’t a one-off.
I assume this would put them in early fall (September-October) or earlier during May or June which is the rainy season in Toyko anyway. Too much before that or after would mean that school would be out in Tokyo.
After we see Akane eating the super-soba noodles for New Year’s eve which means we have passed at least 1 winter.
Then, we end up in the summer at the beach. I make the assumption that they aren’t too far south in Japan when they visit because that would be costly which was the biggest barrier towards Ranma going back to China to change his curse. At this point, we have now reached 1 year which means Akane and Ranma are probably 17.
After this point, towards the end of the manga, Akane helps a little girl who has a crush on Ranma, give the boy Valentine’s day candy. The group also goes through winter colds which means we’re past another winter.
Lastly, before the final chapter, which has them again in casual non-winter clothing, we have another beach day. This could be a hot time in the spring or in the summer itself.
The final arc on Mt. Phoenix is therefore either in the summer or the fall. (Which works for their vacation days too). At this point Ranma and Akane should be 18 or almost so if the series started in the fall.
They have about one semester left before they graduate high school which puts their life in a good position to get away from craziness towards adulthood, and a more reasonable age to get married.
PS: There are a lot of discrepancies in time line, but based on these concrete holiday dates and weather patterns, this seems like the most likely timeline.

True Colors - Feyre & Rhysand
"True Colors" by Zedd + Kesha
(Listen Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weEV0Jf0Urk)
I think this song does a great job describing both Feyre and Rhys. They know what it means to be captured and to fight to escape. They have both hidden who they really are. They are dreamers who pray on their stars for something, someone, to help them feel whole again. They know the taste of fear and how to rise against it. They are unafraid.
Stars fall at my feet, Keep me grounded as I reach Higher than I see.
Is there something there for me? Pulling back the reins, Letting go again I'm not afraid. I'm not.
All my life, One page at a time I'll show you my-my true colors No, I won't apologize For the fire in my eyes Let me show you my-my true colors. It ain't no rainbow
A promise with a lie Is broken by design What we thought we knew Has been swallowed by the truth It's time to light the flame Right before it rains I'm not afraid. I'm not.
Something tells me I know nothing at all We've escaped our capture Yet we have our masters And somehow it's like I've waited...
Stars fall at my feet, Keep me grounded as I reach Higher than I see. Is there someone there for me? Pulling back the reins, Letting go again I'm not afraid. I'm not.
She’s mine,” he said quietly, but viciously enough that Devlon and his warriors nearby heard. “And if any of you lay a hand on her, you lose that hand. And then you lose your head.” I tried not to shiver, as Cassian and Mor showed no reaction at all. “And once Feyre is done killing you,” Rhys smirked, “then I’ll grind your bones to dust.
(ACOMAF pg. 444)
GUYYSSS this is everything. The fact that Rhys is threatening them, and it sounds like he’d kick their asses if they hurt her
BUT THEN you realize he’s talking about Feyre and how she’ll be doing the ass kicking while he cheers her on from the sidelines
BECAUSE his mate is a BAMF and she is a weapon who can handle herself.
You’re free,” Mor said tightly. “You’re free.” Not safe. Not protected. Free.
(ACOMAF pg.125)
Feyre and Mor Meet
“Feyre,” Rhys said smoothly, “meet my cousin, Morrigan. Mor, meet the lovely, charming, and open-minded Feyre.”
“I’ve heard so much about you,” she said, and I got to my feet, awkwardly jutting out my hand.
She ignored it and grabbed me into a bone-crushing hug.“
(ACOMAF, Pg.59)
————————————————
Can we flashback to this moment for a second please? This is right after Rhys brings Feyre to the Night Court for the first time, when he took her from that horrible wedding.
And they are squabbling when Mor arrives to meet her. Rhys somewhat reluctantly introduces them but Mor is soo excited.
When Feyre offers to shake her hand, Mor just pulls her into a hug. It is the start of a beautiful friendship. Yet let’s think of why Mor is so happy to meet her.
When Rhys came home from Under the Mountain, Mor, his closest confidant finds him first. Before she can even embrace him, he blurts out ‘she’s my mate’.
It’s the only thing he can think of, and he is so broken as he tells Mor about this girl. The girl he let go, who loved his enemy. This star in the middle of his darkness.
So she is honest: she’s been waiting to meet the girl she’s heard so much about. The girl who stole her cousin’s heart. His mate.
Thus there was Mor, embracing this stranger like a pal, like family, because she knew what Feyre was to Rhys, even if Feyre didn’t know it herself.
And they would be the best of friends.
Pine and Snow
References to Pine&Snow in the ToG Series:
The Assassin's Blade:
"She walked until a surprisingly cold breeze swept past her. She halted. Slowly, Celaena turned north, toward the source of the breeze, which smelled of a faraway land she hadn’t seen in eight years. Pine and snow— a city still in winter’s grasp. She breathed it in, staring across the leagues of lonely, black ocean, seeing, somehow, that distant city that had once, long ago, been her home." (Pg. 44)
"Her trembling paused for a heartbeat. She knew that breeze. She knew the chill bite beneath it, knew it carried the hint of pine and snow, knew the mountains from which it hailed. A northern breeze, a breeze of Terrasen. She must stand up. Pine and snow and lazy, golden summers— a city of light and music in the shadow of the Staghorn Mountains. She must stand, or be broken before she even entered Endovier." (Epilogue)
Throne of Glass:
"Of all the things he could have said, that was what she had least expected. 'My freedom?' At the sound of the word, she saw a land of pine and snow, of sun-bleached cliffs and white-capped seas, a land where light was swallowed in the velvety green of bumps and hollows— a land that she had forgotten." (Pg. 15)
Heir of Fire:
"She didn’t open her eyes, but she breathed in the smell of him, the pine and snow, and her pain settled a bit." (Pg. 373)
"The scent of pine and snow wrapped around her, and she turned to find Rowan standing against a nearby tree. He’d been there for some time now, giving her space to work herself into exhaustion." (Pg. 423)
Queen of Shadows:
"Aedion palmed his fighting knives as the male’s scent hit him— unwashed, but with a hint of pine and snow. And then he smelled Aelin on the stranger, the scent complex and layered, woven into the male himself." (Pg. 232)
"She would not apologize, nor say it was her fault. Because his death wasn’t her fault. And tonight … tonight she would settle that debt. She wiped at her face with the back of her sleeve and got to her feet. The sun dried her tears. She smelled the pine and snow before she heard him, and when she turned, Rowan stood a few feet away, staring at the headstone behind her.'He was—''I know who he was to you,' Rowan said softly, and held out his hand. Not to take hers, but for a stone." (Pg. 327)
"The scent of pine and snow hit her, and she realized how they had survived the fall. Aelin got to her feet, swaying." (Pg. 574)
"And the smell— of pine and snow … How had she never realized that Rowan’s scent was of Terrasen, of home? Rowan came close enough to graze her shoulder and murmured, 'I feel as if I’ve been looking for this place my entire life.' ” (pg. 645)
Summary:
It all started the day she arrived in Endovier, when the scent of pine and snow reached her from the wind. It reminded her of her past, of home.
Years later when she met Rowan, she realized he had the same scent. He too, became home. He reminded her of her decision to survive even the darkest of times.
That comfort had been with her all along, from the beginning to the end.
He kissed her thoroughly, lazily, as if he had a lifetime of kisses to look forward to.
