in the art school au art, luka and till are the only two characters without hearts as pupils. while both of them are very much in love like the rest of the cast (they are still heartstruck), they differ because their relationship with love itself is tenuous.
for luka it's obvious. in sacred light, he begs a dead woman to teach him the meaning of love. he has never been shown love, so he doesn't understand unburdened affection. in his floriography bio, he is represented by the purple rose, an uneasy love. he reads books to try understand the concept of it, and fails. alnst argues that love is a human concept: without any peers, luka is doomed to struggle alone, loveless.
till's insecure love is driven by his fear of abandonment. he loves his own constructed fantasy of mizi, and remains ignorant of his love for ivan - he must not be vulnerable. mi vida loca conveys this paradoxical struggle: he wishes desperately to love and be loved, but he remains too terrified of it despite declaring it as his driving conviction.
while alnst presents that love without hurt doesn't exist, lukatill stand out because they remain blind to the harm they cause.
it is no coincidence that the object of their outward affections are women - this is illustrated by ruler of my heart. in the song, the female muse is reduced to an object that simultaneously represents a man's strength and weakness - the strength required of possession, and the weakness of the heart. they do not afford women humanity or autonomy: they are accessories, and as muse, they are tools to power. they can present the aesthetics of pitifulness (hyuna's jaded cover; mizi suppressed into harmonies), but there is no pity extended to them. lukatill's versions are also the only ones that feature the catcall whistle at the beginning, ie, a signifier of misogynistic violence.
hand - love as possession. empty hand - unfulfilled love. therefore, heartless - loveless.
this is an example of the end result of when emotional immaturity is afforded to men. it is no disadvantage to them to be unlikable to their peers, and so they are not punished for not being empathetic, rather, it's even an expectation of masculinity that they aren't. this enables their disregard of others - luka's disgust for his clones, and other humans by extension; till's deliberate ignorance of everyone but himself. both of these act as self preserving measures, and for it, they make it to the final round of alien stage.
to succeed in a system you have to embody its values. they are the ideal competitors alien stage breeds: they possess an equal amount of talent for art and drive to survival. this exceptionality is cultivated at the cost of the lives and humanity of others. misogyny is only the first and most universal building block of the dehumanisation required when survival means dominance. the woman is love, emotion, weakness; the man must be strength, possessor, heartlessness.
season 50 ends with till's uncontrolled emotionality killing him, while luka ultimately triumphs by demonstrating the control he has over his. there is no need for love when everyone else is competition.

HyuLuka x First Date.
Set in: Off The Record AU.
@alnstgiftexchange
Gift: @rosatea
This whole idea was Hyuna’s. It was a day after they finished the ending round, which was mostly surrounding Luka and Till. This was where they were supposed to pull off the plot twist that Till was alive, just mute at the end, and the first appearance of the clones. The children on the set had fun playing the clones.
They preferred Till and Ivan’s company over Luka’s so while Ivan was telling random stuff to the children, Hyuna approached Luka to invite him. “You look bored, we should get some coffee.”
So they ended up alone together at the nearest cafe. Hyuna quite literally got coffee, she took bitter stuff well with only a hint of creamer and milk. Luka on the other hand, he just poured it in.
“Geez, you trying to go into a sugar coma?”
“…I’d rather do that than swallow it bitter. How can you stand that?” Luka took a sip of the coffee, it was finally in his liking.
“Ha! You want to crash after our date?”
Luka was not expecting that word from Hyuna’s mouth. He spat the coffee back into the cup before having a whole coughing fit.
The other people around them were staring, like invested when they shouldn’t be, staring. Luka was quite embarrassed. Hyuna though, just simply grinning while watching Luka try to compose himself right now.
“Hyu–“
“Come on Luka, you really didn’t notice my intentions?” She cut off him about to call her name. “How much more obvious can I be? I asked you out.”
Luka truly was embarrassed. And perhaps foolish, because how could he not understand her intentions towards him?
He knew that he had feelings for her, but for them to be returned like this was new to him. He was seriously falling harder because of her confidence to say that a date is what she invited him to, clearly she was past the friendship stage. “A date…if you want to call this a date, then I will too.”
“So, you’ll come to the arcade too right? A date isn’t complete without some prizes!”
“Sure. While we’re at it, I want to get a lot of prizes.”
They both had the same goal.
The night went on with the two of them. Hyuna was more good at the shooter games or throwing stuff, Luka was better at the claw-machines.
By the time the arcade was closing, their arms were stuffed. They’d have to figure out where to put everything.
Hyuna extended an invitation to her house just to keep Luka by her side. He fell for it right away, gladly accepting the invitation.
“What a perfect ending for a date! My house.”
Hyuna was the official tour guide, Luka was the ready to learn visitor.
She spread out her arms wide to show off the space of her house. “This much room. I could probably fit so many people!” She told Luka. He had enthusiastically nodded at her words, it didn’t matter what the exact count was to him.
Hyuna’s whole house was spacious, not just her room, which is where she led Luka too. She had a huge collection of card decks, and board games. Throughout her years, she kept every single game that interested her.
Luka piled all the arcade stuff in a corner. “This is going to become a tradition.”
Hyuna laughs. “You mean arcade dates? You volunteering for more already?”
“Yes I am.”
“Good, cause this was only the first date of many.”
Hyuna then made a mischievous grin. “Hey Luka? Don’t you think something is missing? That’s right, the first date ends up with something important.”
Luka had faced her, that’s when he noticed that she was in his view completely, super close. And then, he felt a plushy sensation, which he realized was softer than the stuffed animals he won by himself with his own efforts. Hyuna’s lips, softer than he had imagined them to be. Yes, he envisioned this moment, he just didn’t think he would be beat to it.
Luka and Hyuna’s date came to end, but really Hyuna didn’t want Luka to leave just yet. Or for the whole night. So, they lay together, cuddling and sharing their warmth.
kidding!

What does the lack of English mean in Alien Stage?
Seriously—why is there English in some songs, but not others? Out of the entire discography only four songs are fully in Korean. Those four songs are "My Clematis", "Cure", "Wiege" and "Karma".
The answer seems rather obvious at first glance and is the answer I've seen while casually scrolling. The four songs are the couple songs, and the reason why they are fully in Korean is due to the fact that these are the only times the characters are truly honest on how they feel towards one another. They are performing for each other and not for an audience. It was cool detail and simple explaination.
Then "MirroR" started auto-playing. When I said out of the entire discography only those three songs lacked English, I meant the entire discography. I went back and checked through all the sub songs and, sure enough, they all included lyrics in another language. This threw a bit of a wrench into that original interpretation I had seen tossed around. There is no reason nor indication that the characters are being actively dishonest or performative during these songs.
Maybe the question isn't just why is there a lack of English, but also why is there even English (and Spanish in Till's case) in the first place?
The probable answer is simply that modern Kpop is hugely influenced by African American (and Latin to a lesser extent) music. Elements of Rap, R&B and Latin Pop can be seen all over modern Kpop. It's a very well known and documented thing. The globalization of Kpop has also led to more English being introduced into songs. The English is, therefore, more of a convention of the genre than anything story related. This is the likley metatexutal reason.
Now for the textual reason. I propose the exact opposite interpretation of the full Korean songs. I think it represents the characters lying to themselves and each other about the nature of their situations. Not out of any malice, but out of a genuine love for the other person. Not wanting their last moments together to be tainted by the complexities of their relationships.
Every romantic relationship in Alien Stage is built upon a fundamental misunderstanding of the other person. Mizi and Sua who each put the other on a pedastal while not addressing the flaws of the other. Till and Ivan who believe the other dislikes them, while they care. Luka and Hyuna who both yearn to control the relationship and infantalize/objectify the other. Yet as the saying goes "rose tinted glasses turn all the red flags into flags." Each of the couples' songs reflects this dichotomy.
"My Clematis" is both Sua and Mizi putting their heads in the sand for the sake of the other. The refusal to see the other as anything less than perfect in the final hour. Deification as a way to cope with the reality they both know is about to crash down on them. Sua who is planning on dying for Mizi without thinking about what Mizi wants. Mizi, who knows what Sua is planning but does not wish to acknowledge it. "Always by my side" until they weren't.
Now onto "Cure". It is stated in the artbook that the original IvanTill relationship was too close to the MiziSua dynamic, so the focus was shifted onto themes of obsession. Their relationship was one where any expression of emotions was seen as a positive thing. There is a constant talk in the song about "scars". The wish to be hurt, to be scared and marked by the one you love. To hurt is to love. This is their version of the comforting lie. The refusal to to acknowledge that they loved and hurt each other; that the love doesnt negate the hurt. This manifests physically in the infamous kiss scene where Ivan kisses and chokes Till. Literally both loving and hurting him at the same time. Something Till doesnt come to terms with until the "Scars" comic.
"Wiege" is a very interesting case. Out of the three main couple songs, this is the only one that is completly non-diagetic, outiside of the monologue. This means that it is the only song out of those three that is not sung in-universe at that moment. Every song in Alien Stage has non-diagetic elements to them, but this is the only one (outside of Karma) that has no indication that it is being sung in-universe. I hammer this point home as it would be a fair assumption that this song only exists to us the audience. However, we do have an implication that the song does actually exist, and when it could have been sung. In the Anakt Garden book it is stated that Hyuna composed a lullaby that became a hit among the kids of the Garden. We can safely assume this is "Wiege" and it wouldnt be a leap to assume that it is child Hyuna and Luka singing during the MV. This is their comforting lie. They emotionally stunted each other and as such are both stuck in the past. The choice of a lullaby is also telling as to this matter. It is something you'd sing to a child, using metaphor to avoid talking about "complicated subjects". It is infantalizing, it is both of them going "I know better, if only you had listened to me." It's a condesending form of love. Their refusal to see each other as equals deserving of respect and to see each other as anything more than children. It isnt until Hyuna is dead that Luka is forced to confront the past and look towards the future.
"Karma" is more or less a continuation of "My Clematis". Whereas "Cure" and "Wiege" are bookended with the illusion being shattered by the death (as shown by the lack of lyrics after), "My Clematis" continues after Sua dies. Mizi has the highest mental strength for better and worse, so this even doesnt shatter her illusion. She does actually grow in the time between the beggining and the end, as shown visually through her hair. That all crashes down even harder as Mizi loses Ivan, Till and Hyuna all in one fell swoop. To make it worse, Luka, who she sees the worst parts of herself in, lives. "Karma" is Mizi falling into a cynical view of the world. Her fragile god is dead, her friends are dead, her "antagonist" is alive. Nothing matters anymore. Might as well burn it all down so they can all be together. This is yet another comforting lie. The lie that there is nothing worth living for and that humanity is rotten at its core. It is an absolution to die in that fire. The literal illusion being the kids falling in the sky. Like in every other song, this illusion is also shattered. Not by a death, but by a chance at life. Till was still alive. This is where the lyrics finally cut out for Mizi, as she begs Issac to save her friend. The story ends with an act of love and hope being what breaks the final illusion.
That is why I believe that the lack of English is representative of a comforting illusion. An act of imperfect love. For as messy as the love between these characters was, it was love too.
(Part 2 on what the songs with English reveal about their characters...eventually.)
love of you is my most cherished thing
Alien stage characters flaws and tendecies
Luka
° Weaponizes other people's trauma:
He reads his opponents vulnerablilities, deepest fears and trauma against them to secure his win.
° Laughing/giggling when inflicting pain:
Luka has a habit of holding back his laughter and smirking once he successfully breaks his opponents emotional state.
° Inability to process ordinary conflict:
Due to his lack of emotional resilience of an average adult, minor conflicts can make him directly switch to physical violence towards another Individual.
────୨ৎ────
Hyuna
° Savior complex:
As much as I love Hyuna I can not ignore her Savior complex. Her love and constant need to protect the others is deeply rooted to her not being able to protect her brother, even when she looses her leg she still tries to go back for the others in Anakt Garden. This all heavily tied her down to try and play the hero which inevitably ended up dooming her.
° Self destructive tendecies:
Due to everything that happend to her she eventually turns to heavy drinking and smoking to numb the pain and guilt she feels which she also hides behind her confidence.
° Ruthless Pragmatism:
This goes with her savior complex, she goes with the 'needs of many' type of mindest where it makes her unknowingly dismiss an Individuals safety or push a harsher plans onto others for the 'greater good'.
────୨ৎ────
Sua
° Posssesive/Obsessive attachment:
She harbors feelings of Irritation and jealously towards people (Ivan or Till, alongside other unnamed people) who are friends with Mizi.
° Self-Destructive Sacrifice:
Her entire sense of self-worth was very much tied to Mizi which lead to her choosing to silently throw away her life in Round 1 for Mizi because she couldn’t bare the thought of a world where her beloved would move on or suffer even more in the fututure.
° Low Self-Esteem:
Due to her growing in a toxic and harsh environment where she was often and heavily compared to the others, she ended up having deep-seated negative self-image and fear of inadequacy.
────୨ৎ────
Mizi
° Self-Deprecation and Guilt:
Mizi tends to harshly villainize herself after tragedies. She internalizes the deaths of Sua and Till as her own failures rather than the wrong doings of the Aliens
° Toxic Positivity:
Constantly maintains a bright and joyful outward facade to cope with an abusive environment, hiding her true Stress, frustration and feelings. This entire persona most likely comes from the toxic and neglectful environment created by her owners.
° People-Pleasing:
She is heavily driven by the desire to be liked by the others which leads to her being trapped in her own performance.
────୨ৎ────
Ivan
° Unhealthy fixation:
His entire worldview and sense of self center exclusively on Till, turning an intense attachment into a consuming and unhealthy obsession.
° self-loathing:
He views his own capacity for love as monstrous or "shallow," believing he is destined for misery and never allowing himself any real vulnerablilities until he eventually dies.
° Masking and manipulation:
He hides behind a carefully calculated, friendly persona. He mechanically practices his smile alone and frequently plays with other people's feelings instead of being genuine.
────୨ৎ────
Till
° Blindness to Others:
His obsession with Mizi prevents him from noticing or properly acknowledging the genuine feelings of those around him. (Cough cough.. Ivan.)
° Low Mental Strength:
Canonically has the lowest mental resilience among participants, he struggles heavily under pressure and processing complex feelings.
° Emotional avoidance (And fixations):
He keeps people at a distance and fails to engage in genuine relationships, choosing to idealize Mizi as a distant muse rather than building a real connection and friendship with her.
Silly Reminders, most of these are Canon with a sprinkle of my own Interpretations
