My take on Kingdon as an autistic person who has had their relationship
first I want to start by saying that there is nothing wrong with shipping them, you can ship what you want, and I can absolutely see why people do so. This is my own experience, and is not to look down on the ship
That being said
I am a low support needs autistic girl that is very similar to Mel. I have been in the exact same situation as Mel is with Frank. Everything from the excitement, the touchy friendship, and the dating allegations. I saw someone say Mel imprinted on Frank like a baby duckling. That is exactly how it happens. She is so alone and is not used to anyone understanding her. Suddenly someone does. For me, I was so excited that someone around my age was genuinely happy to see me around that I just attached myself to her. I am a touchy person and so we were always close. People often thought we were dating. The feelings were never romantic, I called her “father” as a joke (her guy friend was mother). It is much more a deep friendship and finally being understood and wanted to be around rather than a romantic interest.
I see Mel and Langdon the same way. Mel is so happy someone will take the time to know her and be around her and listen to her talk that she’s attached herself to him.
I forgot to add! We were on a sports team together, and it was my first time playing that sport ever. She was much more experienced and I would often go to her to ask questions before the coach, much like how Mel goes to Frank before Robby.
that’s why I see their relationship as platonic Anyway, this probably isn’t super coherent and I am not proofreading it so I hope my point works out. also lesbian Mel.
she’s a girl kisser who hasn’t had the chance to kiss girls. thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
