what I wanna say won’t begin and end with this sentiment, and that’s the biggest blessing I as a viewer can have for two people like sydney and carmen who not only are growing but are learning they can grow together.
this entire show has been about learning how far love can travel. that it doesn’t have to stay familiar, that you can find it in the places you least expect. that your person can walk through your door, and even when she leaves, whether she should or just wants to, she’s going to come back because she loves you.
he waits. she comes back.
and I think that this ending, this moment that sydney and carmen patiently let play out on its own is the release they both needed when it came to their feelings about each other. they didn’t have to say anything because it’s all there. “I love you. I’m proud of you. you’re here. you’re my person.” carmy gave sydney that time to come back after the news. sydney only took a little bit of it to realize she didn’t want to share this moment with anyone else, in any way else.
they held each other in that moment as if the world would crumble beneath their feet if they let go. his hand in her hair, her arms tightly wrapped around his. he holds her face like its precious, because it is.
and all of this is something that neither would let themselves have for the longest time, this intimacy with someone else. to let each other in fully and be with one another.
carmy’s taught sydney to put her heart on her sleeve because he loves her. sydney’s taught carmy to give himself room to be who he wants and needs to be because she loves him. and it all started the day she walked in.
and it’s all going to start again because this time, sydney’s going to wait. and carmen is coming back through the door. someway, somehow.
love transcends definition and carmy and sydney are the prime example of that power.
