A little bit of the Harry Potter Oc I wrote.
In 1987, Rhiannon was seven and was very aware of the Wizarding world. Her older sister, Simone, was already in her second year and wasn’t shy about telling her or their parents about the magic or letting Rhiannon hold her wand. Rhiannon would always sneak to look and read her sister’s schoolbooks, her favorites being Magical Draughts and Potions and Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them, she would read them for days and not get bored and it got to the point where she could recite any passage from the books and Simone would always remind her that the potion professor never used the book in his classes. Of course, her older sister would also remind her how rare it was for there to even be muggleborns, so she was not expecting to be a witch until her eighth birthday.
Rhiannon was struggling with her math homework, she took a deep breath and whispered “I know this... I just need to remember the formula was again” She tapped her pencil against the desk and the more she stared at the paper and the numbers the more stressed she became. “Why can I remember potion recipes and what unicorns' hair is used for, on the top of my head, but not remember a simple math formula!?” She complained as she threw the pencil down on the desk, she felt her face and hands warming up as she stared at the paper, her eyes getting watery. She kept staring and as soon as the tears finally dripped down on her face, her hands lit up and with a panicked scream she fell, staring at the fire on her hands; it didn’t burn, it felt nice... like she was putting her hands near a fire and that her hands weren’t literally on fire and as her parents and sister rushed overlooking in awe. Her mother came over and tried to stop the fire, as her sister hugged her the fire died down only to her finger like it was a candle and her sister looked at her smiling... “You’re like me!” and hugged her tighter, Rhiannon stared at the fire feeling the comfort of the warmth “I'm a witch!” Rhiannon shouted as the fire grew more before snuffing out leaving no burn marks.
They all calmed down and her father smiled a bit “Couldn’t you have just made the cold water turn into hot water like Simone?” He joked hugging her while checking her hand just to be safe, “Do you know how rare it is for TWO muggleborns to be in the same family?” Simone asked wanting to show off “Now wait, why did your hand even do that?” their mother asked in a stern voice “I.. I couldn’t figure out my homework and.. I got angry that I couldn’t figure it out, I wanted to know, and I knew that I could do it, I just forgot how..” Rhiannon whimpered out turning red in her cheeks and her father rubbed her back “That’s okay, you got stressed but that just shows you wanted to know, let’s take a break and I’ll make you some jasmine tea then we can try to figure it out together.” he said, and she nodded getting up.
After that, Rhiannon couldn’t wait to turn eleven and get to Hogwarts, she reread all of Simone’s books as the years went by, and though her accidental magic was more work and chaos she knew that meant she would learn how to control it with her wand. She would spend every day daydreaming in her class about what it would be like her wand, her house, how she would do in class. All of it felt like a dream but as soon as 1990 february the eleventh rolled around and a barn owl flew by dropping a letter on the doorstep, she rushed over to her mother almost sliding against the wood as she took the letter ripping it open and read the letter and it said:
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwart of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.
Rhiannon was practically vibrating as she read over the letter and equipment “I can use Simone’s old first year books so we just have to get the uniform, cauldron, glass phials, telescope, brass scales, and most importantly my wand!” Rhiannon smiled, “Good thinking.” her father smiled ruffling her head as Simone went down the hallways to bring her books to Rhiannon’s room though she looked a bit upset to be giving up her things.
That same night, Rhiannon snuck into her sister’s room and whispered “Hey... What house do you think I’ll be in?” Simone rolled over trying to fall asleep, but Rhiannon kept talking “Hm.. I know you’re in Gryffindor; it would be cool but at the same time not cool if we got in the same house, oh maybe I’ll be in Slytherin... But I’m not really a leader but can be if I have to.. But I don’t think so.” She whispered while sitting on the bed “Hufflepuff sounds cool, but I can lose my loyalty pretty fast if someone does the wrong thing, which I think is a good thing in certain situations.” her sister finally turned around and stared at her “I would say Ravenclaw but.. You’re the smartest person I know and if you’re not in Ravenclaw then I can’t be…” Rhiannon looked down at the ground and wiped her eyes “I think you’d be great in any house, but you’re probably right you most likely not be in Ravenclaw.” Her sister whispered, and Rhiannon eyes went wide “I.. Thanks..” Rhiannon whispered out, almost stumbling over her words “I should go to bed now, good night loser.” She smiles a bit “Good night, demon spawn.” Simone calls out as Rhiannon snuck back to her room.
