Riddle Info Compilation part 28: The Rules and Vil
There are 810 rules at Heartslabyul (In Japanese 8 can be pronounced âhahâ while 10 can be pronounced âtohâ, and in katakana hah + toh = ăăŒă, which means âheartâ), and Riddle can recite them all.
He expects even people who are not students at NRC to know âat least a hundred of them. At LEAST.â
Rule 6, No fighting on campus Rule 23, One must never bring a cat to a formal affair Rule 53, When something is stolen from you, you must take it back! Rule 89, Never eat a tart without the Queenâs permission Rule 124, When you get soaking wet, you must dry off with a run im the ocean Rule 153, No black tea at night? (a little vague) Rule 186, Never eat a hamburger on Tuesday Rule 228, Flowers in gardens must never be picked on Wednesdays Rule 249, Flamingo caretakers are to don pink attire Rule 256, No drinking honey-sweetened lemonade after 8pm Rule 271, One must leave the table within fifteen minutes of completing their lunch Rule 339, The post-meal beverage is to be lemon tea with two sugar cubes Rule 346, Croquet must not be played after 5:00pm Rule 412, When you see a pair of moving glasses in the forest, never go back the way you came
Rule 469, When throwing a party for new friends, one must decorate with both red and white roses Rule 529, If you eat a steak on the night of a full moon, a cat must play the violin afterwards Rule 562, One must never bring a chestnut tart to an unbirthday tea party Rule 648, One must brush oneâs teeth twice over after eating turkey Rule 703, Anyone who comes in second in a croquet tournament must serve the queen tea the next day
Vil tells Riddle that his âglass half-empty approach is basically an advertisement for (his) personal issuesâ, and we learn Vil may have suspected Riddleâs instability from the start, saying, âThat boy is a disaster waiting to happenâ in a flashback with a 1st-year Riddle.
In the same flashback we also see Vil giving Riddle advice on wearing high heels and gifting him with a bandaid for a blistered foot.
Riddle says that the very night he received the bandage from Vil he ordered a manual on proper walking technique and he considers it a âwinâ that he was able to show Vil that he is capable of dancing in heels, as, âone canât let a poor impression go uncorrected indefinitely.â
Vil responds, âAnd here I thought youâd mellowed out considerably since those days. I suppose some things never change.â
We learn from Vil that housewardens are permitted to adjust their dorm uniforms as they see fit, and that previous Heartslabyul housewardens would wear sneakers like the rest of the dorm.
Riddle says that it bothers him when people assume he wears heels to make himself look taller, which is not the case: he had his uniform tailored to match that of Heartslabyulâs first housewarden, as he believes that âthe head of a dorm honoring the Queen of Hearts should abide by tradition, which includes dressing formally.â
Riddle and Vil also share a conversation about the âunique benefitsâ offered by heels, such as how it is âpretty gratifying to watch the Heartslabyul students instantly straight up when they hear my footsteps. That kind of clarion clacking only comes with a good pair of heels.â
âThe altar drips with golden light, A honey-sweet sacrifice from Heliosâ palms. It refracts across my wrists as I hold my offering, cool, pure water, and I am filled with the steady pulse of your divinity. Let the first words I speak be praise to you, my dearest gods. In the hours before the world stirs, May you feel the embrace of praise. Greet us, Theoi, your worshipers across the Earth. Hestia, I offer you the warmth of my home and the flame of my familyâs ever-burning love. I gift to you the pleasant scents around me, Spouted from a gentle candle, And every meal we cherish today. Hestia, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Zeus, whether thunder rumbles or blue fills the sky, Your hand has been gracious to me. Accept my offering of the Arete I pursue, the Xenia I offer others, and the courage I may feel today. Zeus, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Hera, my mother of gilded petals, I offer you my nurturing acts and guidance, Directed by the knowledge of your heart. Carrying your lotus-tipped sceptre, May you find a place to watch and guide the Earth. Hera, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Apollon, drenched in light, Take my devotion in the form of the music I play and the care I take in preserving my health. Being so bright and knowing all, you must hear my praise. Carry it with you, Phoibos, and remember me. Apollon, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Artemis, you shimmer under sunlight and glow beneath the moon; In the beauty of nature, I see your face. I offer you my adoration of all I see today, Looking at the wilderness with endearment and joy. You guard the forests, the flowers, the trees⊠Artemis, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Hephaistos, you rise from your forge with immaculate metals and soot-covered hands. I feel your direction when I make and design, So my creations are yours in dedication. I offer you all that I create, naming you as my patron in craft. Hephaistos, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Aphrodite, pearl-cheeked and rose-lipped, I offer you my act of pursuing beauty, In clothing, makeup, and other sensual delights. My perfume and my jewelry are symbols of yours; Take them as markings of devotion. Aphrodite, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Ares, through rage you create change, Burning holes through destructive societies. I offer you my efforts to campaign against hate, against discrimination, and against harassment. You guide us towards truth and justice. Ares, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Athena, covered in your favour for thought, I offer my writing, studying, and problem solving to you. When knowledge and creativity unite, Innovation and ingenuity take over; You guide all scholars, dearest daughter of Zeus. Athena, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Dionysos, youâre a hunter of peace in chaos; In dance, you find stillness, In revelry, a steady calm. I offer you my passions and joys, Those that excite and soothe me. Dionysos, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Demeter, you sow seeds in our fields, Bringing life and opportunity to Gaiaâs dark surface. I offer you the love I shower onto my plants, Watching as they grow and praise you, too. We shout hymns to you, together. Demeter, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Poseidon, the sea rumbles with your strength, as cleansing as it is terrifying. I offer you the swells of emotion and power within my heart. May we come together at a tide, and the will of the gods be fulfilled. Poseidon, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Hermes, mischief and merriment follow your feet, Trailing through the mortal world you cross. I offer you the traveling of my own feet, Though they cannot stray far, and the joy I may bring with me. Hermes, I praise you and ask for your blessing. Hestia, though you are first, you are also last, and I praise you once again. Guide me through the day, dear tender, and melt away the dust of mortal discomfort. Khaire, Theoi, each of you clear and shining in the day.â
