Just because two words are synonyms, doesn’t mean they always are 100% the same.

Cracking a glowstick is a slightly different meaning of cracking than is used when talking about cracking other things.

Thus, different meaning from break in this instance, you don’t break the glowstick, unless you want to pour acid or whatever the fuck is in a glowstick everywhere.
