In Salvador, the Church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim is likely the most visited church in the region. It is regarded as a Catholic church that intertwines aspects of Candomblรฉ (a form of worship, with African Yoruba origins, practiced by ensalved Africans during the slave trade).
However, this church draws crowds of people both locally and from across the world due to what seems to be a very powerful feature:
The granting for wishes and prayers. ๐๐พโจ
.
Outside the church you will find color ribbons wrapped along the gates. They symbolize wishes made by visitors of the church.
๐ The ribbons can first be purchased for a small fee from street vendors. ๐ต
๐ Then you can privately go and wrap your ribbons on the church gate to make your wish. โจ
.
Inside the church you will see a room filled with plastic body parts of baby dolls, hanging from the ceiling and walls - at times, even a whole baby doll. These are indicative of prayers made by individuals seeking healing of a body part or possibly fertility.
.
Whatever the wish was, if it manifests, even years later, these visitors will then send a picture of the wish fulfilled. There is a wall in the church dedicated to these pictorial testimonials. It is such a beautiful thing to see. โค๏ธ

I happened to take part in this, and although I won't tell you what I wished for, when it does come true, this church will be hearing from me! ๐
