Summary:
Bellara Lutare and Andarateia Cantori have found comfort and fun in each other's arms, but as their feelings deepened so did the webs of political machinations surrounding the two. They find themselves having to officialize their affair in the name of nations and rebuilding in a post-blight Thedas, instead of in their own name. Together they navigate their existing relationships, obligations to their nations and the struggles that comes with trying to change the world.
Written for the Dragon Age Big Bang. This story ran away from me so fast and I think I managed to keep up with it.
thanks to @surnumanaja for the UNREAL art pieces you made for this, I legitimately teared up with some of the updates you gave me during the making of the pieces.
One day left on the poll! Additionally, if anyone is interested in helping to organize/moderate, please reach out to me here or on Discord 𖹭.ᐟ

As we look forward to another year, there’s no better time to celebrate our wonderful community of creators. This year, we’re shining a spotlight on our alumni: the talented writers and artists who successfully completed the Dragon Age Big Bang in previous years. All past DABB alumni were given the option of an interactive interview with our mod Alix, or an informal written survey. If you’re thinking about participating this year, check out the insights and advice from those who tread this path before!
On time spent creating
Alix and JurassicFrogHlc talk fixing Tevinter, outlines and community
Alix: Where did you get the idea for the story you wrote last year? What made you choose that one to write your fic about?
JurassicFrogHlc: When I finished Veilguard with that particular Rook (Ulpia) I thought about what would be next, what sort of problems would come from picking the Trickster ending. And I chose that one because I did not think my other options would work out for 25k words.
The problems were mostly: What happens in Tevinter when Dorian tries to fix things and it goes not exactly as he plans and I made my Rook & her love deal with the immediate consequences.
Alix: Yeah, I can imagine that "fixing Tevinter" would get very complicated and potentially off the rails very quickly!
What surprised you most about your story, whether something in the writing process or something that happened in the fic that you weren't expecting?
JurassicFrogHlc: Two things specifically. First, writing an outline can be a major help in working out what you want to do with your story. I was surprised I managed to stay true to the outline throughout and not suddenly be dealing with random plot nugs.
Second, the tranquil version of Ulpia was a big surprise to me both in what she decided to say and which spirit she chose to fix herself. (I was planning on Cole or Eulogy at first, turned out to be Solas.)
Alix: So your story actually ended up where you planned! That's impressive. I know for a lot of writers outlines can end up feeling more like suggestions, it's great that you were able to stick on track. Did you know when you started that you were going to write a nearly 60k fic?
JurassicFrogHlc: No, I estimated around 2k per chapter, that's usually the length I kept for chapter length in most of my fic back then. And then details of the story kept growing and begging to be added. I remember my initial estimation being 40k-ish and I went over by 50%. I could have cut some stuff, but I really loved the moments I put in there that made the story feel more alive.
Alix: Did you ever find that you would hit a wall or get stuck? If so, what was your go-to method for breaking through?
JurassicFrogHlc: Yes, there were 2-3 chapters I planned initially that were meant to be an exploration bit of the tunnels and catacombs under Minrathous and I just ended up cutting that part because I could not manage to make describing stone-work for three chapters interesting. Instead I tried making it interesting with the moving painted murals and the weirdness of post-blighted Bellara and the telepathy it gave her as a result.
That is to say: I cut things I couldn't figure out. I focused on some details more and listened to music. (Also, the secret writer chat was very, very, very motivating, so that helped push through some rougher bits.)
Alix: What was your favourite part of participating in DABB? What gave you the most joy?
JurassicFrogHlc: Being part of a community, it's something I hadn't experienced yet in fandom. I had been part of events, but none of them were quite as engaging as this one was. The jokes, the memes, the pacts, the sprints, the lore conversation and details.
Watching the other writers was immensely pleasant. I was shaking with excitement at the various stories. Your hockey AU, the Emmrich frankensteining a pseudo-Rook back to life, the secret origin of the Caretaker, all the OCs, etc.
Alix: What made you sign up?
JurassicFrogHlc: Boredom born out of Unemployment! I also wanted to write about Ulpia a lot and I saw the ad on tumblr!
Alix: What piece of advice would you give someone considering signing up?
JurassicFrogHlc: Do it!!! But in all seriousness. At least try it. It may prove too much, it may be a lot, but even just attempting it will give you something: new skills, new friends, new knowledge about yourself. Time spent creating is never lost, especially in these trying times.
Bathe me in moonlight
I'll sleep the day away
Color me candid
Leave me bare in shades of gray
You are what's beating
And aching in my chest
You're there
Touch me slow, leave a fingerprint
Bring my soul to deliverance
I can feel you lingering now
Drag me straight to the precipice
Stop me right when thе feeling hits
Close my eyes and bеgin again now
@apothe-cary #5 Is there any significance behind their hair color?
Delphine: A few, I wanted to emulate a portion of Morrigan's palette, I also figured dark hair would make sense regarding the general look of people aorund where she was born. It's also kind of a preference of mine too.
@redaresss #3 How did you choose their name?
Delphine: In the real world, Delphine means something related to the city of Delphi. Which connects to the Oracle of Delphi. Because her name was meant to be somewhat connected to Tevinter, I extrapolated it would have some Oracle/magic themed meaning behind it in Thedas.
#19 What is your favorite fact about your OC?
Delphine: I really like the Grey Widow part of her lore, I'm really proud of coming up with that. (Grey Widows, sex worker who regularly take on Grey Wardens client who are on their end of career Calling, give them some love and closures, something leads to short marriage of convenience).
@stormemes11 #8 What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?
Delphine: Their general distrust of the Chantry and affiliated lore, their suspicion of anything related (Templars, Circles, general Lore about the world as seen through andrastian lenses).
#13 How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?
Delphine: I haven't written Delphine in a post-VG story yet, I do have notes about what I want it to be, but nothing concrete yet. It involves her officially becoming a Rivaini Seer and working to solve some specific major issues with the connections she made along the way.
@vishantikaffar #17 Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?
Delphine: Nothing very flashy here, I think the way I wrote in her flaws and her weaknesses doesn't show very well or very often given the stories I write her in. (She is not interested in being a hero for most of her adventure and isn't particularly tolerant of other people's faith/spirituality if its too far removed from her own values.)
Ulpia: No, I was very deliberate with how I dealt with her story, there were plans and outlines and some research. I think the only regrets I might have with Ulpia might be that my writing skill did not allow me to exectute some aspect of her character as well as I wanted (specifically her temper).

After Bethany has been taken into the wretched Gallows, Justice and Anders vow to one day deliver her from her Templar jailers... Only to have their heart crushed when she admits to having gone of her own volition. In the following months, Anders falls victim to Lydia Hawke's whirlwind of tempestuous passion.
When a job for the Mage Underground goes disastrously wrong, he attempts to spin the aftermath into an opportunity to secure passage between Kirkwall and the Gallows, once again pressing Bethany to accept freedom.
Meanwhile, after gaining a foothold topside, Edric Cadash follows the rest of the Carta to Kirkwall. The powerful gang infests the place like ants scouring a hill for traces of that sweet, sweet Lyrium. As a simple dwarf, he's never asked for much. Warm meals, clean clothes, and the company of his best friend has always been more than enough — but his family's legacy gnaws on him like a rabid bronto, pushing, taking, and demanding more.
When Varric Tethras approaches Edric with a job he shouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, all he can think about is how many people it'd help. And that's always the problem, ain't it?

Summary:
The truth is, no one on this side of the Veil really knows what it looks like when the blorbos are put away. Where do they go when we are not actively imagining them in– situations?
Well, if you've ever wondered that question you are in luck, because Riley Mercar and his Harem are about to show you what goes on behind the curtain of fanfiction.

Some TVJ I was noodling on idly below the cut!
She and Rana had crossed the bridge, questioning the soldiers stationed there on either side. The bridge guards were, they had learned, a tightly knit group. Assignment to the bridge was light duty, but required specialized training — necessary to activate the bridge’s defenses or destroy it entirely when called upon — so its defenders tended to stay in that role as long as possible. That had, fortunately, meant they could discern who was on duty during Elgar’nan’s attempt at domination quickly and easily.
Unfortunately, however, none had seen the escaped Venatori, at least as they’d been described. But many people, the guards had pointed out, had fled across the bridge. So that they hadn’t seen those specific people didn’t mean they hadn’t gone that route, only that they’d blended in. The docks by the military district had been similarly unavailing. They’d lost two days tracking those leads down to dead-ends.
Which left Dock Town tomorrow, and Neve had a meeting with Elek — who had refused talking to Rana — marked in her calendar.
The Threads didn’t typically dabble in the slave trade, or bringing people in, but smuggling accused criminals out? That they had some experience with.
Rana leaned her head against the wall with a soft thud for a moment before turning Neve’s way. “Alright. I’m going to get some sleep before tomorrow. You,” she said pointedly, “should too.”
“Are you mothering me?” Neve asked, amused. She stopped writing in order to look up and smirk at her partner.
“Hardly,” Rana snorted. “You’ve barely slept since you’ve been here. Coffee isn’t a substitute for rest, Neve.”
“Mmmm. I’m not sure I agree,” Neve mused, more to needle the other woman than anything else. Rana shook her head in disbelief.
Excited to finally be able to post the project I've been working on, my piece for the @dragonagebigbang to accompany @aereona's fic, Under Your Crimson Brush!
This was a blast to work on and I'm so lucky to have gotten the opportunity. The fic is so well written and fun and I hope I did it justice!
