Summary:
Bellara Lutare and Andarateia Cantori have found comfort and fun in each other's arms, but as their feelings deepened so did the webs of political machinations surrounding the two. They find themselves having to officialize their affair in the name of nations and rebuilding in a post-blight Thedas, instead of in their own name. Together they navigate their existing relationships, obligations to their nations and the struggles that comes with trying to change the world.
Written for the Dragon Age Big Bang. This story ran away from me so fast and I think I managed to keep up with it.

Alix and Granola talk hype and 18th century blood transfusions
Alix: So, it's been almost exactly a year since sign-ups closed last year, and here we are again. It feels like ... almost no time at all has passed. Except that it has, obviously, since you wrote a 55,000 word fic since then!
Granola: Hard to believe honestly
Looking forward to this year though
Alix: You're planning to participate again? What's bringing you back?
Granola: The community of course but also because I loved it so much last year. Made some really solid writing buddies and they're planning on going on and doing it again. I also LOVE the challenge of getting a fic done in only a couple of months.
Alix: The hype is really starting to get going on, it's been really fun watching people come back and starting to get excited about their ideas and everything.
Obviously we can't talk about your ideas (secrets!!!) but is there anything in particular you're looking forward to or excited about?
Granola: The amount of research I've done is insane and I'm so excited about the topic. Vague vague vague but also I love sticking so and so in certain situations. BUT also, I truly love seeing everyone's stories twist and change until they've finished it. It's cool to see not only your own fic change, but your friends’ as well.
Alix: Did your fic last year involve much research?
Granola: Bits of it here and there.
It's based on Frankenstein so I absolutely did some research on gothic medicinal practices and things like syringes and electricity from that time period.
Alix: I loved the concept for that fic so much. Was there anything particularly weird or niche you needed to research?
Granola: I got really into eyes for a bit … not that a lot of it ended up in the fic, but yeah, I guess eyes and general anatomy of a person.
Oh and 18th century blood transfusions.
Alix: Very key topics given the subject, I suppose! Eyes, though.
It's fun how we can end up doing these deep dives into things and then it doesn't make it in to the story.
Granola: Haha yeah very true. Likely exceedingly true with this year's DABB, sad to say.
Last year was very last minute—but this year I've planned.
Alix: Are you normally a planner or a pantser?
Granola: Pantser for certain
Alix: I feel like DABB can bring out the planner in all of us.
Granola: I would absolutely agree, but definitely not a requirement!
Alix: (Not me looking at changing my idea at the very last minute.... )
Granola: But I will say with such a small window, there were things that I needed to cut from last year that I would have loved to have added but couldn't.
Alix: Yeah, I had whole chapters that ended up on the cutting room floor. One day I'll recycle them into ... something.
What was your favourite thing that didn't make it into the fic?
Granola: How R rated can we get? lol
Just kidding. Kind of. I had a few naughty scenes that were Emmrich observing his Creation.
I would have also loved to write a few more scenes of her seeing/thinking about her Maker. Really getting into her mind. And more about Bellara and Emmrich and what happened before he decided to Remake Rook.
Alix: Ahhh, I love that. I always love seeing the other viewpoint of events.
Granola: Yes! I did keep the last chapter in Bellara's POV which was fun. And I think (I should know this) the penultimate chapter too... but I can't remember. Probably should re-read my fic again.
Alix: Was there anything in the writing process that you found especially challenging? What were your road blocks during the event, and how did you manage them?
Granola: Sprints ALL THE WAY. EVERYDAY. EVERY BLOCK. Just smash them. No time for roadblocks.
Challenging? Yes. I think the writing checkins were particularly challenging as well as editing. I personally can't stand editing so I wanted to give myself as much time as possible to edit it, which compressed the whole thing so I could have a good buffer window to edit.
But for roadblocks, sprinting helped SO much. Like I don't have time to stare at a page when I'm sprinting with other folks. Words just pour forth and I don't care if they are good or not, they just are and we move on.
And then I can edit later.
Alix: Totally! I love sprints for that.
Granola: I won't deny I also want to beat everyone else at a sprint.
Alix: The competiveness is real.
Yeah, yeah, community, collaboration, I wanna win.
Granola: See you got it.
Alix: So, last question before I let you return to your evening — what's the number one piece of advice you would give to someone embarking on their first DABB?
Granola: Oh just do it. DO IT. You'll have fun. You'll stress. If you engage with folks, you'll likely make friends along the way who are just as weird as you are. Oh and your artist? Absolutely fabulous human of a being. Shout out to Hana for being an amazing human being.
But yes. It's fun. The people are nice. The mods are absolutely wonderful. And the stories that come out of this are incredible. It's like one of those confetti cannons or a bottle of champagne. Scary before you pop it but well worth it in the end.
I’m gonna need you all to get more obsessed with Supergirl 2026. It’s literally every single sarcastic, messy, depressed, grieving, male lead from recent media that accidentally adopts an angry, young girl (also grieving) which forces him to confront his self destructive behavior and realize the impact he can still make. But she’s a girl. This is the character you all love in every piece of media. I’m begging you all to adore her the same way.

A bit about them is below the cut.
In a canon divergent AU, they would be together. At first, there's mutual respect. For Viago's part, there's an admiration and attraction that grows stronger after she helps save Treviso from the dragon attack. Kala's first impression of him is of a handsome man with an air of gravitas and dignity. She comes to really appreciate his passion for poison mastery. They're both nerds at heart after all.
Eventually, Viago would approach her, spurred on by Teia of all people. She could recognize the attraction between them very easily.

What was your favourite thing about participating in the Dragon Age Big Bang?
The community and how it boosted everyone to finish their piece. You weren't doing it alone and it was fun.
What advice would you give to new DABB participants?
Take your time don't rush and reach out when you need help. Everyone gets blocks and just because someone finished quickly doesn't mean you're going too slow.
What would you say to someone who is deciding whether or not to sign up?
You should definitely sign up, the mods who run this are great. They're very encouraging and try to keep everything running smoothly. Very transparent.

In general, for the polycule, she call everyone her partner. Everyone has some kind of nicknames too, but I haven't gotten around to deciding what they are.
Morning routine? Depends on who she spent the night with.
Coffee with Lucanis, Forcing Neve to cuddle in bed an extra few minutes, then coffee with Neve. Cooking for Bellara, something in bed. Being a nuisance to Harding's own routine, by shoving her face in her chest mostly. Taash just carries her around over her shoulder and put her up so they can do their dar-saam in peace. Emmrich and her have their skincare routine and morning mage ritual they do together. Morning Spicy Time with Davrin is kind of a tradition.
