Kate was born from Athena and Donovan Arthur. Don was a rather nerdy man: his position as Chair of the Anthropology Department at Colorado College took up most of his time, and any freedom he had was taken up with documentaries or writing peer-reviewed papers for fun. On the night he met Athena he was abroad in Athens, researching ruins with some colleagues. Theyād goaded him into taking a night off and grabbing a drink with them, and while at the tavern he met Athena, who was under a disguise. The next several weeks were spent researching by day, being together by night. The evening before he was set to leave back to America, Athena revealed herself to him, and he freaked out and ran back to his hotel. The next morning, he realized he was being a bit irrational, and attempted to find her, but wasnāt able to before the flight. Several weeks later, he found a surprise outside his door. Athena, holding a small baby. She explained to him the typical things: it was his baby, she birthed the baby from her mind, all those things. He was bewildered and also very weirded out, but he promised to try his best. He didnāt know many girl names off the top of his head and just called her Kate, not a nickname for anything, no middle name, just Kate.
Kate was an easy baby, but a wild child. She discovered her powers early on, and was often hiding things in the other realm like crayons, keys, glasses, food she didnāt want to eat, and Don had his hands full. Her grandparents helped a considerable amount with the raising, and they were her primary babysitters. Kateās battle reflexes seemed to only make her seek trouble, and after one too many fights at school, Don had to call on Athena to train her, take them away, control them, anything. Athena showed her the latter, how to control her urges and use it for when she actually needed them. At this time, she talked to Don about possibly moving her to Icaria, a place with a high density of demigods and people in his situation as well. She herself made sure he got a position at the university there, and they moved, and there they both stayed for the most part until, well, Don got kicked out six years ago when the island closed to demigods only. Kate decided to leave with him and continue her studies in Boston, becoming a probate lawyer, dealing with estates, wills, conservatorships. It wasnāt exactly glamorous, but she knew if she dealt with any other part of law like defense, her battle reflexes would come out in a bad way.
Kate fell in love with a handsome but aloof man named Finn, who she thought loved her back, based on the way he asked her to marry him and all. She planned it all: a small but beautiful wedding, with nothing out of place. Except the groom. After the man embarrassed her in front of both of their families by not even bothering to show up, she was heartbroken. Kate is a woman who is unable to stop herself from wearing her heart on her sleeve and oversharing, and she was afraid she was insufferable after the fact. Getting the hell out of Boston, she left for Icaria about three years ago, a place sheād always felt was like home more than anywhere else, to open her own law firm and get a fresh start where she could put everything behind her.
