need to write about noelle and berdly soon. berdly genuinely likes and appreciates her a lot, and some of the ways he talks about her are very sweet and indicative of how much he cares about her, but he doesn't listen well or actually understand her (or most people for that matter) as much as he thinks he does and still places her in this role of ego support regarding his own insecurities by simultaneously relying on her to make up for his weaknesses and positioning her in a secondary unequal position (where the hero/damsel stuff also comes in) that he is also all aware of but couldn't admit because of what he thinks he stands to lose from doing so and properly acknowledging her as his equal or even as someone more capable than himself even if he knows it's true. ends up being a shockingly good reflection of a very pervasively common passive benefactory of misogyny irl which i feel makes a lot of sense with how gendered their characters are as well

i get that Birdly is supposed to be a comedic subversion of the "incel white knight" kind of jerk and i guess it's nice that in Chapter 5 he's like "m'ladies... i will stand aside for your love" but that doesn't really address his habit of being bizarrely condscending towards Noelle in this weird backhanded way and if Deltarune doesn't have the time to devote to a satisfying plot beat where this is addressed then you know what, yeah, maybe Noelle SHOULD just stop hanging out with this guy

it's more likely that there'll be a short scene at the end of the game where he's shown to clearly be treating her better but i wouldn't hate it if Noelle's ultimate character arc involved her just plain not being friends with Berdly anymore because "i'll be normal and nice to you when we're alone but when i have an audience i'm going to act like you're a sad sickly Victorian orphan who needs me to hold her hand" is actually not a great relationship dynamic

“is Noelle abandoning Berdly because she’s dating Susie now?” Noelle was hanging out with Berdly two in-universe days ago, she suggested inviting him to the study group ONE in-universe day ago, she’s spending ONE afternoon apart from him because she’s on a DATE
