Spirited (2022) - Good Afternoon | Scrooge (1970) - Thank You Very Much
Bonus:
My top 3 Christmas movies say so much about my taste in media. We have...
1. Small selfish sacrifices for your own benefit leading to becoming selfless and willing to risk your life for the happiness and prosperity of the next generation, to do better by them than their families and communities will
2. Santa's neurodivergent child cares so so so deeply about every single kid on this planet, he doesn't care if it's efficient, he doesn't care if it makes sense or how much it terrifies him, he is going to make sure this random little girl in Cornwall feels loved and important (the way he doesn't-)
3. Can a horrible human being ever be redeemed? Can I ever truly cancel out all the badness I put into the world, even after more than a century of helping humanity from the afterlife and refusing to let myself rest or to dream of something more, because I have to keep making the world a better place in bigger and better ways, if I don't how will I ever make up for the harm I caused?
Just... generational selfishness, family dynamics where everyone walks away feeling unloved and worldchanging redemption. Ah yes, my favourite themes of Christmas.
So I’m watching spirited for the umpteenth time and
Is that—
Is that a fucking dog in the hall of the redeemed?!?!
Yes. Yes it is, and I need this story now please
Another thing I particularly like about Spirited (2022) is that in this world of black-and-white purity culture, its final message is that not only should everyone be given a chance, change doesn't look the same for everyone. Some people will have a huge, course-correcting event. Some people will just make small decisions that will gradually add up.
Maybe there's no magic wand Maybe there's no switch to flip Some days you may soar beyond And some days you start to slip
And whether it's Christmas Day Or a random day in May You're gonna wanna say That you tried the best you could And a little is enough
I don't know about you, but I think a lot of people need to hear and absorb this message, and realize that it applies not just to themselves but the people they're judging, too.
Fuck Ozempic, man. The near-total loss of all fat and chubby celebrities all becoming thin over the course of no time is monumental. Especially all the ones who were outspoken fighters for body positivity and acceptance. And the fact that it's now the fashionable thing to be skin-and-bones-thin in Hollywood again is sickening
“this post contains mature content” it’s picture of a classical nude. it’s a photorealistic painting of someone’s hands. it’s a gifset of a kpop idol smiling. it’s a moodboard featuring someone’s bare shoulder. it’s a film still of a non-graphic bloodstain. it’s a photograph of a non-white girl sitting on a counter wearing a short skirt. it’s a meta about how sexuality is depicted in a tv show. do you see what’s happening here. the vilification of the body. the sanitizing of violence. the whitewashing of presentation. i hate it i hate it so much
They were definitely anything in the past. I've seen a few (less house, more platform) in the country that I wouldn't get in (on) due to their decrepit nature. You don't see a lot of kids building ramps on their street these days either. Lots of cartoon stuff is based on a time long since passed.
Houses don't have big trees anymore.
What ended up taking their place were the giant Playland structures with some sort of box "house" structures incorporated into them because as Peeps have said:
1. You need a Big Tree to properly support a tree house with adequate safety for multiple children to use and
2. You need an adult to build a safe one that is more than just a platform. (Most adults are unwilling to build one nowadays due to insurance complications with injury on one's property) 😑
3. Platform style probably started life as a deer hunting stand.
But here's some examples of the platform playland houses:
If you notice, these are 1. Expensive - and these are the Assemble it yourself types. So both time and money.
2. Require Lots of Yard space to setup as compared to 1 tree
3. Only make a good fort for all ages of child if the fort is on the ground. Otherwise your max age capacity is probably 10 years old.
4. Not as private as a tree house. (The height difference and sound dispersion through the leaves are key factors here)
When you look up tree houses now, they are deliberately built for adults for the whimsy.
I also think treehouses in cartoons are specifically fading out, because most of the writers for kids shows did not have these structures growing up.
The baby boomer childhood era was truly a time to be alive. If your neighborhood had six familes and all six familes had a ton of kids---because The Pill didn't exist yet---and there was no tv no video games and sometimes no personal backyards, whoever had a big tree put a treehouse in it to give those rugrats something to do all day.
For the first time in US history, mass amounts of children were not required to get jobs to support the family (below; poster circa 1941-1945)
and weren't on family farms but lived in a new thing called a "suburb." Child deaths plunged, but child boredom was an imminent threat. Something had to be done, and that one guy on the street with carpentry skills because he came from an era where if you needed a house you built it yourself with your own hands, he was the one to do it!
Then, families got smaller, crime got bigger, trees got cut down, lawsuits frightened folk, and close-knit neighborhoods gradually fell apart.
When you hear about the "tree-huggers" among the generation of boomers that grew up to become hippies, some of them were trying to protect the old trees their generation (and generations before them) had played in as kids. They lived in an era that did not care about any sentiment that did not support "progress" and financial gain. The tree that held the treehouse could be a parking spot instead, or an apartment bloc, or a shopping center. They were publicly mocked for wanting to keep a living thing that reminded them of treehouses and freedom and childhood.
As this was a largely losing battle, a separate set of boomers did the only thing they could do. They included their old childhood treehouses in books, comics, and cartoons so the next generation could love them too.

context explaining why the announcer is screaming, this is supposed to take a high level competitive agility dog 40 seconds
This video makes me cry every time it’s on my dash and I can’t even iterate why.
Like the dog doesn’t even know it’s a competition and she’s made history. She(?) just is happy and knows she made her owner happy too.

why is it that ppl hear "fetish" and immediately think "devoid of morals" like ur genuinely not making sense. ppl dont actually become inhuman and beast-like when theyre turned on, thats something we are told bc it aligns with christian patriarcal values, u know that right? desire isnt actually bad. it doesnt make you evil, or incapable of having/respecting boundaries
i got a response to this abt how men get horny and "lose their minds" and "causes" them to behave vile. i rlly rlly neeeeed ppl to understand that men behaving inappropriately when turned on is something they are *choosing* to do, and when you equate that to human nature you are enabling them and diminishing the seriousness of that choice
