Automatic spoonie response
“I’m fine. I’m just tired.”
When someone asks “How are you?” and I automatically say I’m fine
when someone asks if you’re doing okay
When you have IC and IBS you spend all day
When my disorder makes me late
"Come on body, get your act together." And it's just like:
Thanks for the submit ech0tang0! You rock!
The start of every appointment with every doctor ever...
A spoonie without spoons is a creature huddled amongst blankets, teary eyed, needing someone to bring them food.
Sometimes I can see a flare coming, but sometimes it's more like...
When someone goes to hug you in the middle of a flare...
When I can't think about life before chronic illness without breaking down...
“Well, it could be worse. At least you don’t have________.”
an abled bodied positivity tactic
Firstly, every illness has its truly awful side, but that doesn’t mean that those awful sides are comparable. Secondly, why make someone who is struggling through something feel guilty about that struggle? In what universe is that acceptable? Finally, the implication that our daily struggles aren’t as bad as someone else’s is dismissing the different experiences patients are going through.

When someone asks how I'm doing with being chronically sickly...
"Are you okay?"
Nothing new people.
Today marks 5 years since I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis.
Happy anniversary to me.
When test results are normal...
When people complain to me on low spoon days:
The struggle.
