A few weeks ago I went out and got the CUTEESSST little Skrelp. They're so overhated for no reason other than being 'ugly' even though they're so adorable and small :((
Anyway, the only problem is, my Skrelp is EXTREMELY shy. I gave him a big tank with lots of dark places to hide, but he just flits around in the shadows and I hardly ever get to see him. He's eating okay, I think, but it's hard to check since he only really eats anything when i'm not looking.
I know Skrelp are reclusive Pokemon, i've read up on them lots, but something tells me he should have warmed up to be at least SOMEWHAT by now. I've been nothing but kind to him but he still won't show himself.
Hmm- sometimes they're just skittish, but I do have a few pieces of advice. It's good that you have a lot of hides for him, but consider planting some seaweed (real or fake) in a more open spot- the goal here is to have him start hanging out around or in the seaweed, instead of in the dark all the time. It's good to give him privacy, but giving him a safe space in an open area where he can sit and observe might help him open up a bit.
I also suggest sitting in the room with his tank and doing something relaxing- reading, writing, yoga, playing a game. Just be around him, talk to him sometimes, read out loud to him, be in his presence without being too disruptive. Pokémon are smart creatures, and the more you interact with them, the more they understand you. Even if that interaction is indirect, they're still listening, and it's important to let them know that they're safe and that you care.
Final piece of advice, which may be unrealistic depending on where you live and how big your tank is- get him a friend! Another more outgoing skrelp might encourage him to be more active, or at least move around more. while they tend to be pretty solitary, they're known to sometimes pair up in the wild, traveling around and hanging out. It may take them a while to get used to each other (you'll probably see cloudy poison in the tank every so often, just turn the filtration system up higher until it's gone), but they're kind of like cat pokémon- they'll get used to each other, be friends, but probably still attack each other sometimes, because that's what they do.
I hope my suggestions help, let me know how it goes with him!
