It’s 2008. Mikhail Romanov, in carrying on his family’s legacy and fortune, was constantly demanded by his parents to pursue a marriage as he came into his role as the new head of the Romanov family. With this obligation weighing over his head his whole life, entertaining the idea of a relationship seemed pointless and that by falling in love, he’d concede any sense of autonomy he could have left in his life. So he never sought out love at all, putting off getting married as long as he could.
This life as an independent bachelor finally came to end though when an old, unlikable politician approached Mikhail with a deal. In exchange for Mikhail’s endorsement to aid his public image, he’d wed off his daughter to Mikhail to enhance his own. Relieved at the idea he wouldn’t have to jump through the hoops of courting someone himself, Mikhail agreed to this arrangement.
And with that, a freshly turned eighteen-year-old Milena was wedded off to Mikhail, a man well in his thirties who was also battling a turbulent drug addiction away from the public eye. And who else could be his supplier other than Makarov, his childhood best friend.
After being undying loyal to Mikhail for nearly 30 years, Makarov was now secretly vying for Mikhail’s money to finally begin transforming Konni from his criminal organization to a powerful military group capable of enacting his goals on Russia and the world. Despite his friend’s constantly unstable and inebriated state, Makarov couldn’t break Mikhail’s resolve to keep his wealth safe.
That’s when opportunity presented itself in the form of Milena, Mikhail’s wife who was growing increasingly resentful and desperate for escape from the abuse she faced at his hand. The chance to turn Milena onto his side was especially palpable after the countless times Makarov had intervened between her many spats with Mikhail, repulsed seeing his friend abuse his power and strength on someone vulnerable.
When the time was right, Makarov enacted his plan to kill Mikhail, with Milena altering his will to ensure all her soon-to-be late husband’s fortune would go to her. In exchange for Makarov freeing from her marriage, Milena would provide enough funds to begin militarizing Konni.
Now 10 years later, Milena is one of the most powerful women in Europe, completely satisfied with her status and indifferent to the means and people used to obtain it.
