character in general: let me tell you fam... i have had it up to HERE? not with jasper herself because i actively can’t blame her for her personality (and wouldn’t even if i could bc i think it’s great) but more for what the community tends to do with her. y’know, skip the whole “extremely dangerous professional babypuncher” aspect and go straight to Big Spicy Orange Space Mom Can Do No Wrong, More @ 11. alternatively they’ll demonize her altogether for the things she’s done and the way she acts... like that’s somehow totally unrelated to spawning straight from the Jerk Rock Capital?  i hate it!!! it’s the worst!!! i love jasper as a character when i’m not huffing about how these hooligans mistreat her tho. i can’t wait to see my favorite scary rock again

how they play them: you do an absolutely Splendid job of being just the opposite of what i described up there, honestly! you acknowledge all these aspects of her to me without making any of them too prominent or acting as if any one is her Entire Center? she’s multifaceted! (stealthy rock joke) she isn’t just some extra tall bully, but she’s also not some secretly kind and loving soul just Waiting to be nurtured either! she has a lot of potential and you work overtime making that obvious and for that i thank you

nearly silent, but not quite.

It was not often that Pearl was left alone with another Gem that wasn’t Blue Diamond. But she found herself standing side by side with the Sapphire- and though she knew Pearls were not supposed to be curious, the question was asked anyway.

“Is it really true? Can you really see the future?”

it would’ve been a surprise to hear the taller gem speak to her, had she not foreseen it-- even so, the act was impressive to some part of her. sapphire  replies without looking over, willing to speak with her but hoping to avoid unwanted attention.

she was small enough to wind thin arms around jasper’s neck and rest her head at the stoop of her shoulder-- the better to see up and through the glittering expanse beyond the glass dome. planets and far-off galaxies beamed back at them, filling sapphire with an unusual sense of wonder and an underlying current of loneliness. her towering company was physically unmoved, but also uttering no complaints. could it be that their thoughts weren’t far apart? did she look out over this universe and wish for something without knowing it?

-- if so, it wasn’t for long. she was subtly growing fidgety.

there was something endearing in her persistent silence, in spite of her now-obvious desire to go and to do rather than stand around watching the stars. before she can think it through (or perhaps because she did?), the gem tightens her hold just slightly, turns her head and stamps her cheek with a quick kiss... out of gratitude? maybe.
