Somewhere Boy being a show about people struggling with the things they’re expected to be. Steve trying his best to protect Danny in a way that ends up just harming him and even then Danny still escapes. Sue being handed an impossible job under the expectation that’s she’ll just be able to handle it and even though raising her own kids is a completely different matter to helping an extremely traumatised young man with minimal support she does her best at it. Paul trying his best to get through to his teenage stepson who is determined not to let him even though there’s no-one making him try and even though he messes it up most of the time just the fact that he’s trying puts his miles above Aaron’s dad. Aaron being exposed to every single rule on what a boy should be and stepping into the role of explaining all society’s standards to Danny even though he himself is failing miserably to fit any one of them. Danny being the only one with no expectations of the world and so revealing the absurdity of it
