Aaron shouldn't have come out to the bar tonight; he had been talked into it. Being reminded again of how steady he was, how everyone expected him to go to the networking event. So he had grabbed a domino mask from a costume shop after work, and he had thought that was enough. He had just wanted a drink when he heard the voice of the worst person he had ever met. His ex-girlfriend was asking someone to dance. He couldn't help but make a comment. Call it liquid courage or just being petty.
"Careful, you know that snakes like to bite." He warned the other person with a grin.
Isobel closed her eyes for a moment and exhaled, hand still resting on this other person while she decided if she was too drunk to deal with Aaron Vandervort. Patting the man's arm once, she spun around to look at her first ex-boyfriend and tried for a snarky response, "Not that you would know." Did it still bother her that he was the only man to ever actively reject her–despite dating her? Absolutely. But it bothered her more that seeing him only brought Alex to the forefront of her mind. "What do you want, Aaron? Kick me while I'm down? Stop everyone else from hooking up with me? Maybe you have another video up your sleeve to chase me out of town with?" This family fucking sucked.

I came to tell you that I’m sorry for being such a disappointment. Is that what you think? That I’m disappointed with you? Why wouldn’t you be? I’m awful. All of my siblings are talented or smart or both. I’m just Taylor. Nobody likes Taylor.
going to the fashion show would've been fun, but no, ceren wasn't to have fun. not when she was still facing her parents judgement for her disappearing stunt over the holidays. no, no fun was to be had which was why she was stuck at this stuffy networking event that she couldn't wait to leave. it would be good for networking and art connections, is what her parents explained, but all ceren saw was another space she was being watched in.
heading up to the bar, she ordered another tequila soda and prayed for the time to pass quicker.

Isobel was walking a dangerous line being at the Angel Capital Networking event, but she hadn't been in the same room as Logan since the break up and after seeing the Gossip Girl blast about him wearing tweed, well, she was concerned. Still, showing her face here felt like a mistake, so the first place she went was to the bar. It wasn't until her whisky–Logan's favourite–was placed in front of her that she noticed Ceren just a few spaces down the bar. "Hey... You look like you're having about as much fun as I am."
Robbie Baizen had hardly been back in the city a minute before he was blowing off steam. Dressed to the nines in his fanciest suit (big Bruce Wayne energy) with a Batman mask (a sprinkle of anonymity), he had just finished his own shot when he saw her lean in. Everyone knew Isobel Prescott was either a PR nightmare or a gold mine, he doubted there was any in between. She looked really good in that catsuit, though.
"My pleasure," he smirked, pulling her closer before leading them further out onto the dancefloor. "You promise to use those claws on me later?"
When the voice reached her ears, Isobel's jaw dropped a fraction. Robbie Baizen. She might have had her fun with Carter back in the day, but damn if his older cousin hadn't been a life goal of hers. Isobel let herself be pulled towards him–dare she say her heart was fluttering a little?–gladly following him on to the dancefloor. This is what she needed. This would fix her. "I don't blindly promise anything. If you want something from me, you'll earn it like everyone else."
Dawson had been getting out in the city, getting to know some of the people around him. He was seeking inspiration, and he had been trying out some new things. So when the chance to dress up as a superhero came up, he decided to go for it. He had gone with Nightwing, mostly just to have the tightest costume he could. He planned on getting attention tonight.
"Hell yes, not enough people are dancing. Careful with the claws, though. One hole in this costume and I think I might get arrested."
Isobel grinned and threw back another shot before pulling him on to the dancefloor. She wasn't entirely sure that she knew the man under this mask, and a variation of Robin was a choice, but damn that was a tight suit. She didn't try to hide the fact that she was checking him out and, frankly, her hands hadn't left him since she had first leaned into him. "I make no promises, I'm not so good at controlling myself." She could do this. She could be who she was before... She could get over him. "I'm not sure I can be blamed when you look this good."
Sienna had been talked into this by Tessa. She needed a night out. The show had taken too much time lately, between filming and doing press, it had been a lot. She decided to dress up as Supergirl. Luckily for her, one of the girls in the wardrobe department had access to a good costume.
She had shown up and made her way to the bar. She was waiting for a beer when Isobel appeared beside her. "Yeah, we can dance! Let me get my beer. I love the costume."
Isobel hadn't really seen Sienna since her cameo on Friday Night Bites; between her schedule and Isobel's 'reality' show, it was a wonder they were running into each other now. "Amazing. Love yours too–careful though, if the press catch sight of you, you might be getting calls from DC's casting department." Isobel threw back yet another shot and backed up on to the dancefloor. "How are things with you? I saw the billboard of you, Scottie and Frankie on Times Square."
Sapphire was soft launching this whole 'help Jesse move on' thing with this party. She was doing market research. The fact it included dressing up and throwing back shots was just a bonus. And Jesse was so sweet, he was never going to say 'no' to hanging out with her. Plus, he was a giant nerd and what giant nerd could resist a night like this? She turned when she felt their hand, grin only faltering a split second. Isobel. Sapphire had been beyond shocked to hear about Isobel-and-Logan, and she suspected the details were a lot messier than you'd think. Alex had never liked Isobel, but Sapphire wasn't one to judge. She threw back her shot and proceeded to take Isobel's hand. "Let's do it."
Isobel smiled in a drunken haze when she realised who she had leaned into. If anyone could be relied on for a great night, it was Sapphire Vandervort, but at the same time, she was Alex's cousin. As far as she was aware, ever since Lexa had been born, the two had been really close. Would Alex try to keep everyone away from her? Isobel backed up on to the dancefloor, but even she could feel her smile falter. "Who are you dressed as? My knowledge stops at the big names."
Was the Batman costume too much? Sam hadn't been planning on going out tonight, really. He should have been in training, but between his father's last epic speech chewing Sam out and the fact Gossip Girl couldn't stop talking about Juliette-and-William... Here he was. It had been from a Halloween party at college last last year and after a couple of beers (also something he shouldn't have really been doing), he felt better about it.
It was then that he turned to see none other than Catwoman leaning into him. "There's no universe where I'd say no to that."
"Good." Isobel grinned up at him, sliding her hand down his arm to clasp his hand and backed up on to the dancefloor with him. "As Batman, I think it would be a crime to do so." She pulled him close to her, the room spinning ever so slightly around them as she tried desperately to let the alcohol make her forget. Sam certainly wasn't a bad option to help with that–he was hot, athletic... she could forget him. "I'm not stealing you away from someone, am I?"
Of all the texts Jesse had expected to get, 'meet me at 57th and bring the Superman costume' wasn't one of them. Thankfully, Sapphire had followed up with more context. It took some convincing, but Jesse had agreed to spend a couple of hours there with her. Having fun. Besides, who didn't love dressing up? Sapphire, who did make a very sparkly Emma Frost, had sent him to the bar while she did a loop of the room. He had no idea what she was doing.
Jesse had been trying to get the bartender's attention when he felt a hand on his arm. "Catwoman," he greeted, an easy smile on his lips when he realised it was Isobel. Jesse didn't have to check Gossip Girl to know what had happened with her and Logan, everyone knew by now. He could more than relate. "I... Um-," he started, looking back to the overly busy bartender, "Yeah, sure. Why not? I should warn you, though, it's been a while since I pulled out the moves."
It took a moment, but Isobel's eyes finally focused enough for her to realise it was Jesse in front of her. Of course he was dressed as Superman–he certainly had the jawline for it. Her eyes glanced down the full height of him and wondered how many of those muscles were padding. "Superman." She acknowledged playfully, but proceeded to quickly remove her hand from his arm, an almost sad smile on her lips. "Sorry..." It slipped out before she could stop it, "I didn't realise you were... you. I don't think I'm allowed to even speak to you."
@aaron-vandervort
"You say that as if you're just anybody, Isobel," he countered, raising an inquisitive brow. William had given her a lot of shit since she and Logan had more or less sealed the deal on their relationship. She was soft, she was sweet. She was holding a baby on her hip. That didn't mean that he had ever wished that they would break up. Or whatever was going on here. In truth, William saw too much of himself in Isobel. They were like parallel lines, always indulging in each other's worst impulses. If Isobel Prescott was going soft, it meant he could too, and he didn't like that one bit.
"Come now, I'm sure there must be something that can be done to remedy this." Whatever this was. And then, as he'd asked so many times before, he added, "What do you want?"
Isobel's lips twitched into a smile, but there was an obvious sadness behind it that she didn't quite know what to do with. William had never been the person to confide in. He was the demon she could confess her worst sins to, or bounce around ideas for an enemy's demise, but opening up? Speaking about something that hurt her–being vulnerable? That was never what they would be to each other. It couldn't be. Could it? The fact that he was even here checking on her... It was faint, but it was there; a softening of his edges. What was happening to them?
"I'm not so sure about that." He asked her what she wanted and she knew–of course she knew–but she couldn't say it. She couldn't say that she wanted to destroy Alex, that she wanted her to suffer for making her feel like this, but she was Lexa's mom. No matter what she did here, she would hurt Logan. "I want to forget that I ever felt like this."
"Oh, sweetheart...," she said softly, taking her hand and squeezing it tightly. Angie hadn't figured out how she could fix this yet, but she was sure they weren't long for this heartbreak. She was sure, with some time, it would straighten out. Waiting could be torturous, though, and she could see that all too clearly on Isobel's face. The birthday present waiting expectantly at her side was a cruel reminder, too. "I know, honey. It's a real mess right now, but don't you worry. Anyone can see that you and Logan are meant to be together, you just are. Nothing's gonna stop that, not for long." Angie waved over to the bartender then, ordering two shots of whiskey for good measure. "But don't think I don't know it hurts like hell, anyway."
Isobel clung to Angie's hand like the lifeline it was. Ever since the break up she had been feeling pretty damn helpless, but if something could make her believe there was hope, it was this woman. Maybe she could talk to Alex, maybe she could fix everything... Maybe Isobel was delusional. "I want to believe you." She sighed and lifted her eyes to look at her again, still struggling with those pesky tears. "She's Lexa's mom and she hates me. I don't know how I'm supposed to fight that. It's not like I don't deserve it."
