I've always heard that gunpla is addictive, but i thought i was safe bc i assumed it would be addictive in the way figure-collecting is addictive - high cost for the product, and most of the value is in owning a matching collection. A halfway decent figure won't run cheaper than $40 and you can easily sprint up to the hundreds for something really pretty, and then you take it out and display it and that's the whole thing.

Unfortunately it's actually addictive in the way knitting is addictive - the kits and materials themselves are pretty cheap and you can drown days and days of free time doing as much meticulous work as you want. The halfway decent models are like $20 and the really nice ones might cost you $50 and you get hours of lovely focused detail work to spend making it as pretty as you want.

Anyway here's the ten-dollariest gunpla i could buy (overpriced from its original cost of a whole $5) that i managed to spend 15 hours painting and building
