I say this mostly because a lot of dragon ball fans denounce OG but like, dang

some of the best parts of all of dragon ball to me are the multiple periods in OG where all the responsible(ish) older people are like "Well. Goku, I guess you should just go off on your own as an ungodly powerful force of childish innocence and good. I fully trust that you will make the right decisions (he does because he's a good kid) and am willingly encouraging you to do whatever you want for a few episodes. Go, Go my unchecked chaotic ball of child goodness. Kill. (they don't say that)"

I AM old fashioned, I think one of the best jokes of dragon ball was the one they quickly had to abandon- the joke that the unassuming underestimated kid is actually the strongest in any situation. And OG got the most mileage out of that joke whenever it was just Goku on his own doing stuff.

Walking up on an armed robbery or seconds away from a murder and going "Hey! Can I eat that rice ball?" and both the victim and offender are stunned by his nonchalance before he realizes something bad is going on and he one shots the baddie who thought he was an easy mark.

Also it's just cute. I love kid Goku winning people over. I love the innocence and good nature that beats out and wins over every form of corruption under the sun.

I love Goku being like "I don't understand half of what everyone here is saying but THAT is bad so I'm gonna hit it really hard with my power pole if you don't mind. You're being a meanie to a nice person who was kind to me." and then he stops his journey for a second to appreciate a beautiful flower his new friend told him about because the interiority of Goku is enthralled with finding good and beauty in people and the world and he RULES.

OG is so good.
