I’m the same person anon you just answered I just want to say I think the reason so many is upset about Aoife casting it’s because you don’t see people curvier or plus size or midsize on screen unless it’s being made fun of or you’re the funny fat character since Hollywood is trying to be “more inclusive” a lot of people thought Aoife Malloy Here’s a chance we’re finally going to see somebody who looks curvier, but they casted thin actress which I spread no hate to that girl. I genuinely think she is dropdead gorgeous I think they all look great. I think she will do great as Aoife I am still excited for the show so don’t get me wrong I just think if Hollywood says they want to be more including then they should be. because there is so many different body shapes and you really just see one on screen.
Yeah no understandable but firstly I'm going to leave Aoife and her actress out of this conversation.
The reality of the situation is that Hollywood can say they're going to be inclusive, which they tried really, there are curvy or plus size actors and actresses out there, but the only time I haven't personally seen them as the butt of the joke is rare, I think Nina from Sox of crows at best in the Shadow and Bone series, right.
But Hollywood I hardly ever going to be inclusive without making everything fall into a stereotype unfortunately, not just for plus size actors but also when they cast brown or Asian people they always fall into the same stereotype with the same accents and character.
They don't know how to be properly inclusive without being stereotypical as far as I've seen. I mean sure there's some rare cases where they aren't but this is all they know how to do and they can try but yk.
And with the whole rise of being skinny=being healthy and ozempic, good god the amount of actors themselves falling into the "I want to be skinny" Culture, the industry itself was never going to be size inclusive.
That and everyone has always been fed traditional media and their usual standards where no one wants to see a plus size person be anything but the funny character, that's what the industry knows half the population wants and they feed it into that it's become the norm that no one wants to change because everyone has unfortunately become used to it.
And for studios, they just don't want the effort of clothing and everything for them anyways, they're perfectly set on using sample sizes for their clothes.
So yeah it sucks, it's wrong that this is the norm that people are so used to but it is and there not a lot of people in said industry, not even just Hollywood, even in my country there's the same culture, they are not willing to risk their films and series should the people not want to see a plus size actor.
I think unless it's a book adaptation again like Nina in shadow and Bone where it's so specifically mentioned repeatedly in the books and the author themsleves ensure it, there's no other hope for curvier plus size actors.
