God... what is it with recent narratives and doing abuse narratives in such a god-awful fashion?
I'm talking about MHA and TUA in particular here, two of my previously favourite pieces of media now ruined by thier endings... I'm so upset Bibi 😭😭😭
Please don't bring the umbrella academy into this Iam still trying to recover from that god awful season 4 (heck it's so bad that even the actors didn't like it) 😭😭😭.
Like how and why is five and Lila even a thing 😭😭😭. There is so much wrong with that whether that be within the show and in real life. Yikes there's so much that went wrong with Tua that I can't even fully unpack here. What happend to Klaus and why was almost none of the characters traumas properly addressed like come on how could you fumble this badly?!?!?
MHA is also bad when it comes to the way abuse was handled. Victims lack nunance and are either purely good or purely evil characters that can't be saved. Some victims are used to PROP up their abusers while others have their emotions sidelined and forgotten about. It's a horrible mess of wasted potential.
The only one who was done SOME justice was natsou and no one was done justice in the umbrella academy.
I never watched the games of thrones so I could never actually feel the fall off but dam a lot of shows or pieces of media are fumbling the ending of the series and while I get that not every show can have an ending where everyone is satisfied at least make the ending well written instead of committing mass character assassination
As a Jewish person, the chapters about Marley hit extremely close to home. The way the Eldians were treated is hardly different from the way Jews were treated in the ghettos. Karina and Gabi’s characters are somewhat realistic in a sense that I know that there were some Jews that indoctrinated themselves in a creed of self-hatred to survive or even joined the army (like my friend’s grandma). Worse is that some of those who commit atrocities (ie the Romanov family -yes the one with -Anastasia )
cont.) are romanticized or worse, seen as martyrs. Note: Nicholas II of the Romanov family, who was then the Tsar of Russia oversaw the pogroms, which was a mass persecution of Jewish people. My father’s Russian side of the family fled to the United States to escape certain death.
Hello anon!
I am sorry to hear that and I understand. Some things can be extremely triggering when they hit too close to home.
I don’t understand if you are still following the series or if you have decided to take a break, but either way I think you should do what makes you feel better.
If this can help you I think that so far the story hasn’t romanticized neither Marley’s discrimination politics nor Gabi and Karina’s mentality.
Marley’s ideology is strictly condemned by the narrative and our main characters in Marley are Eldians i.e. the discriminated. The only Marleyan who is given focus is Magath who shows to have not such a rigid mentality towards Eldians, but who is still accountable for how they are treated. We’ll see where his character goes.
When it comes to Gabi and Karina, they are not shown in a positive light.
Karina is clearly shown as a negative character and as the one who is mostly restraining Reiner at this point. I think Reiner will confront her at one point and it is possible he will refuse the mentality she has indoctrinated him with.
As far as Gabi is concerned she is framed as a protagonist, but not as a heroic character. She is very much presented as a victim and the contrast between the lies she is told and what the readers know to be true only strengthens this idea and how tragic her situation is.
reiner doesn’t deserve to be a hero because of what he’s done? what? who does then? armin mikasa jean connie and all the other mains participated in killing people be it soldiers or civilians at this point and at least reiner is the only one who shows extreme guilt over his past actions and actually did change for the better. while the Sc still get civilians killed and prioritize themselves over the world reiner is willing to sacrifice himself to save it. (1)
reiner fought eren& zeke so hard and he’s the only one who showed absolute distress at the idea of the world being destroyed while jean and the others were more okay with it like “eh we can benefit from this genocide”. if there’s a character who deserve to take eren down and be the hero it’s reiner. he realized eren’s threat since day one and tried to stop him while the others enabled eren for years and even now seeing where eren is going they still won’t make an effort to stop him(2)
if reiner doesn’t deserve the title then the characters who helped eren get where he is and refuse to stop him don’t deserve it even more. reiner redeemed himself long ago, anon, just say you hate reiner and go don’t give the “he killed innocent people” card because everyone did at one point and at least he regretted it and stopped killing people long ago ps tries to do best by everyone unlike the ones you want to take the title. (3)
why worry abt reiner being isa’s fav?jean n ymir were his favs n look how they got treated. he doesn’t take sides just does what his story requires. ntm if the new helos is gonna be another fake then what’s the point?magath said the world needs a real hero so the new one will def be real. reiner is obviously the best candidate we didn’t get all that development and foreshadowing for him to play no role he’s eren’s rival. the fact that he’s mixed could play a role, he will be a hero to both races
Hello anons!
Reiner is an important character and he will surely have a central role and it will most probably have to do with him bringing the two sides together since he has ties and relationships on both sides. I have talked about it in the last asks.
That said, he is not the only important character left. Armin and Mikasa are just as important as him and Historia may also play a role. I don’t know if one of them will bring Eren down, but what I am sure of is that all of them should give a huge contribution to solve the situation.
What is more, the series has already deconstructed the idea of a single hero coming and saving the world over and over again. It has done so with Eren, Levi and Erwin and all Reiner’s backstory is, among other things, him realizing how empty the concept of being a “hero” is. The point is not that these characters are not positive ones or that they do not have heroic qualities (because they have), but that deep down they are still people. They are individuals and as such they should not be seen as neither gods nor demons. Seeing Eren as either a God who never fails or a Demon incapable of nothing else, but destruction is exactly what led to this situation. The rest of the world decided that Eren was a demon despite having never met him. At the same time, many people in Paradis decided that he was a God and so that he should be followed without any question. In short, what is happening is the result of people like Gross and Yelena. I have mentioned these two characters simply because they are two extreme examples of these behaviours, but of course many people in different degrees have contributed to this. Among these many people there are also Reiner, Mikasa, Armin and the others.
Reiner has known for years now that the people of Paradis are no devils, but he has kept his mouth shut and has done nothing to change the situation or to avoid the war with Paradis.
Similarly, Armin and Mikasa have known for years that Eren was growing distant from them and that he has always had a very violent and dangerous side. However, they both chose to ignore it and kept following him no matter what.
In short, Reiner is not like Gross, but he has done not enough to fight people like Gross. Similarly Armin and Mikasa are not the Yeagersists, but they have not done enough to oppose them.
Sure, one can argue that Reiner has been in no position to fight back because he is a part of a minority which is exploited and discriminated. However, one could also argue that Mikasa, Armin and the others too have found themselves in a very complicated situation since the world has decided they have no right to exist. In short, both Reiner on one side and Mikasa, Armin and the others on the other side found themselves in a horrible position and have been passive about it. It is about time that they become more active.
As far as the first anon is concerned, I disagree about the fact that Reiner is the only one who showed regret over killing people:
Mikasa, Armin and Jean have all shown regret and they have all been shaken by what happened in Liberio. Similarly, they are all very shaken by what Eren is doing even if they are reacting to it in not ideal ways:
Once again this chapter shows all the main characters being too passive.
In short, I agree with you that using arguments about one character being morally superior to another doesn’t work and I think all the key players are similar when it comes to morality. They have all done things they regret in the attempt of helping their respective side and country.
As far as the second anon goes, I simply meant that I don’t think there is going to be a single hero against a single villain. This dychotomy has been criticized since the beginning of the series. This is why Eren aka the protagonist is currently playing the part of the villain. We as readers are meant to know that even if he is doing something terrible he is still a person and that in a different context things could have turned out differently. Similarly, the world might come to see a single person like some greater good who opposes Eren, but we as readers will probably see that things are more complex than that and how more people’s contributions will be necessary to reach the conclusion. In short, this doesn’t mean that if Reiner were to become this symbol of hope he would not get a positive character development and he would be “fake” in that sense, but I simply meant that the title of Helos will necessarily oversimplify things and Reiner’s own feelings about him acquiring it might be complicated.
That said, I agree that whoever gets the title of Helos (if the title is taken) will need to be seen as a hero by both Eldians and not Eldians. And just to be clear, I also like the theory that it will be Reiner the one who gets it. I simply don’t think that this would automatically make Reiner’s contribution more important thant the ones by other characters. I think all key characters by this point should matter more or less equally even if in different ways and with different focuses.
While the Eldians can be compared to many marginalised ethnic groups, I find one of the most apt comparisons is with a Japanese one.
The Burakumin are a Japanese ethnic group who are racially no different from the majority of the Japanese populace, but have been oppressed since the Edo period because their class made their living from leather. Slaughtering animals is considered an unclean act in the Buddhist faith, so they were treated as tainted and widely reviled. Even today in a predominantly secular Japan, the prejudice lingers, and Burakumin face discrimination in employment and even intermarriage.
The way they are discriminated against on the grounds of a ‘sin’ they are perceived to have committed definitely calls the Eldians to mind. Even those Burakumin who do not practice their cultural values, which have now been normalised in Japan (like Titan-based imperialism in Marley), are discriminated against solely on the grounds of their heritage and ‘tainted blood’.
While the ‘crimes’ of the Burakumin seem trivial to a modern audience in comparison with the very real crimes of the Eldian Empire, try putting yourself in the sandals of a medieval Buddhist.
The way they saw it, the Burakumin were debasing themselves for profit, insulting the teachings of the Buddha which they piously lived by. In their eyes, the Burakumin made themselves less than human, and this was the basis of their oppression. In the Eldians’ case, they literally are something other than human.
The Burakumin are arguably the largest minority ethnic group in modern Japan - Isayama is sure to have heard of them. It’s definitely not meant to be a straight parallel, as more moral ambiguity is poured on the pyre with the Eldians’ titanshifting abilities, and indeed the predicament is largely meant to reflect the themes of the series more than any precise historical event - a subversion of Eren’s desire to “kill every last Titan” and such. However, I would not be surprised if he drew inspiration for their situation from the Burakumin.
So Zeke wanting to euthanize his own people - a okay! But he’s so sympathetic and his backstory so sad! He outright murdered a bunch of people of Paradis and the entire Survey Corps including Erwin and that’s fine? A people that HE IS A PART OF AND SELF LOATHES THAT HE’S ESSENTIALLY COMMITTING GENOCIDE TOO!
Aside from Marleyan war crimes maybe the reason why Onyakonpon was empathetic towards Eldian people is because he too, experienced racial discrimination due to his dark complexion.
When Sasha asked him, "Why is your skin dark?"
He replied with, "Because the creator thought, ' it's more interesting with a mix of people' ." and that, "we exist because we are wanted."
It goes to show that hate and misunderstanding is the only thing that separates one race from another. Physical appearance may serve as our "identity card" but that doesn't give us the right to discriminate.
As the anime is slowly heading towards the end, I noticed that many in the fandom seem to not understand the Alliance's motive, siding with Floch and the yeagerists, not seeing their flawed ways and horrible political tactics.
First things first, Floch didn't understand anything. He was a fascist, ready to do the same thing to the volunteers and opposing Eldians (!) that Marley did. He had 0 understanding of the value of life. He was also a hypocrite. "Eldia will finally be free!" Eldia will be the only country left. Even before they knew humanity outside the walls existed, they were killing each other: the entire first part of season 3 is about Kenny and his squad, Kenny's history as a murderer then as an assassin, the Survey Corps being hunted down for not wanting to keep people in the dark and wanting justice. They wanted to hang Erwin because he was a threat to their regime. They already killed Priest Nick, Erwin's father, Armin's parents. They were ready to jeopardize the lives of more than half the remaining population. They were hunting down Ackermans and Asians for not being controllable. Floch was already killing volunteers (nearly executing Onyankopon who NEVER had an ulterior motive to hurt them, like Yelena, yet Floch was nearly in tears of joy talking about how his home country will be destroyed), Floch was ready to kill the Azumanitos who were alligning themselves with Eldians, and Floch, who wanted the "peace" and "freedom" of Eldians, was okay with the majority of Eldians, who were living outside the walls, being massacred. For a 100 years Paradis was in peace. There was no massive discrimination, everything was fine in the sense of a common person's fine (food on the table, no war) until Marley attacked. Eldians outside the walls have been abused and enslaved. They knew more about hatred and discrimination than Floch, yet they were also thrown under the bus.
No side, for 2000 years, ever considered diplomacy. They hated each other, wanted each other dead, enslaved each other, etc. And the one time a small group realizes the importance of life and the fault in Eren's plan (which wasn't even his real plan), they are clowns? Diplomacy works, genocide won't solve anything. Eldians would have continued to kill each other, Pyxis said it, Erwin said it, Levi said it, Yelena said it, and that is the entire point of the show. Mr. Braun already explained it very clearly. The alliance became diplomats and peace ambassadors. And funny how the only country who was a threat to them was Paradis.
The extra panels show that conflict never ends. Looking at the skyscrapers, more than 100, maybe even hundreds of years have passed, and an unrelated conflict broke out. Paradis could have avoided it of they didn't consider themselves untouchable after the rumbling, they had centuries to prepare, after all. They could have also made some diplomatic relations, they could have tried. But they never did, and that is on them. No one saw the truth, except the Alliance.
can we talk about Sasha's character on AOT for a second? just listen to me for a moment.
majority of the mainstream fandom has reduced her to the comic relief/potato girl who loves to eat but I think she deserves so much more than that. especially when she died, most are only sad over it to have a reason to hate Gabi because "huhu bitch child killed our potato girl kyahh"
(of course there are handful of fans who understood her and saw the depth of her character. but I was really hoping her TV death arc will bring out more people who didn't just saw her a cartoon cardboard character)
Sasha is a wonderful native-migrant representation, at least in my perspective. She came from a rural area and community of farmer/hunters that are greatly affected by the continuous occupation of urban born citizens. Mainland Paradisians shamed and ridiculed their way of living until they lost their own homes and turned to urbanizing the forest/mountains. To Sasha hunting and farming are parts of her identity, to give it up for those who never understood them in the first place is a complete betrayal of herself and their heritage. She hated the idea of abandoning that just because a world she's not a part of is changing.
But in her father's words, they are all part of a bigger world that is connected regardless. So she ended up joining the Corps as a soldier, among those who might be prejudicial towards her identity as a native. Those subtle details of Sasha practicing code switching (hiding her accent, rarely talking about home, talking too polite around others) goes well with her character.
As someone who spent most of her life being a subject of prejudice and mockery because she's a minority, Sasha is seen to be warm and eager to know about the rest of the world. She rejoiced on Niccolo's cooking, curiously asked about why Onyankopon looks different and saw Marley in an eyes of a kid instead of a soldier who's planning to destroy it.
That's what made her death even more tragic. She is the least person on the team that could be ignorantly hateful towards Marleyans or other Eldians, because she knew what it's like to be a subject of social prejudice. Yet she died first, on the hands of their own who only saw her as nothing but faceless devil. Sasha lived a life of unjust discrimination and bigotry just for being different, and in the end she died for the same reason.
She was either a lowlife farmer girl or a devil of paradis.
But it's not fair to sum up her story like that. Sasha was a naturally warm and radiant person, but also brave and skillful. She has a knack on both hunting and cooking which she gladly shared to her comrades. She cared for them as much as she let on. And as heartbreaking her death was, I couldn't imagine her having to live through the Alliance and Rumbling arc because that will surely break her.
This is one major flaw I always saw in Zeke’s Euthanasia Plan that I really don’t see brought up, but how is taking away the Eldian’s ability to make babies was going to change anything? Did Zeke think that once Eldians can no longer make babies that the rest of the world be just fine with letting them die out naturally in spite of many years of discrimination? In fact it would make the process of Eldian genocide go a lot quicker for the rest of the world since Eldians can no longer make babies. I mean one of the real world examples of genocide is forced sterilization which is what Zeke is doing. Also Zeke is delusional to think that the world will be at peace once the Eldians are no longer around, the way history works is that they would just find the next target to go after which would probably be Marley since the whole reason why Marley kept Eldian persecution alive wasn’t really for past sins, but mainly because if Marley didn’t have Eldians for a scapegoat then the world for hate Marley for conquering them. In fact they did show hatred for Marley, but Marley just insured that hatred for Eldians was stronger. I think we are meant to see Zeke as delusional, but I don’t think it gets noticed as much because his younger brother always had the Rumbling planned so some parts of the fandom end up thinking that this could end up as this lesser of two evils when it really isn’t. In fact how was the Euthanasia Plan going to keep Eren from doing the Rumbling, was he just going to shrug his shoulders and let his people’s existence end like that when he fought for their right to live even if he went about it in a pretty horrific way. In fact I would have liked for one of the smart characters like Armin to start poking holes in Zeke’s logic like that when Yelena told them about this whole plan.
Apparently there are some Attack on Titan fans who think that Erwin would agree with The Rumbling and I wanted to argue against that. I haven’t seen these opinions myself as I tend to steer clear of anyone who has positive things to say about that aspect of the story, or seems suspiciously a little too interested in season 4/post-time-skip Eren, but I have been told of it second-hand. All this tells me is that there are some people who really haven’t paid attention to Erwin’s character, perhaps misunderstanding what is meant by the fact that he is willing to make sacrifices.
One interesting counter example to Erwin being involved in something like The Rumbling is that he specifically tells Pixis that he intends to overthrow the king and noble government without killing anyone. And these are the people responsible for the death of his father! He has a potential rationale behind wanting to kill them in return, but this isn’t a part of his goal. Even though Erwin will allow for his own soldiers to die in the line of duty and is willing to gamble with his own life in the same way, his aim is never to do something in the most violent way possible, causing the most amount of casualties; the violence is always a means to an end. (This isn’t to say that his actions are always fully justified, simply that when it comes to fighting other people, Erwin seems averse to choosing to kill if other options are available).
By comparison, The Rumbling is not a strategic means to an end, but simply blind vengeance. Eren or Ymir Fritz might justify it by pointing to the discrimination against Eldians suffered throughout the world or the (frankly bizarre and half-baked) excuse that the people of Paradis can be seen as heroes after this for killing Eren, but the mass genocide of 80% of the human population isn’t some kind of justice for Eldians; it’s Eren and Ymir reacting to the world with anger and hate. Ignoring the whole concept of Eren being essentially under the control of Ymir Fritz (which I think was a horrible misstep; she should’ve just been a historical character who originated the Eldians/Titans and not someone actively controlling things behind the scenes, but I digress) I think that The Rumbling feels like something that it might make sense for Eren himself to do, because he’s a very reactionary young man who never learned how to control his emotions and has a quite black-and-white sense of morality, but Erwin is pretty consistently shown to be the opposite of that. I don’t believe he ever makes a choice purely on emotion, especially not hatred.
Class 1-A with a fem! Quirkless reader! Cold, reserved, yet polite and soft spoken when talking, S/O may as well be an Ice Queen. Growing up alone with no love in exchange for massive training and tons of combat experience in illegal underground rings, making her one of the strongest students. Also, she has countless scars and burn marks all over her body from neck to toe, which she conceals by wearing scarfs, gloves, winter clothes. Class 1-A and some teachers reactions?
Characters: Class 1-A, All Might and Aizawa (really brief Recovery Girl and Nezu)
Genre: General, Minor h/c if you really squint, minor angst if you squint really hard + HCs
CW: Abuse (briefly stated but no in-depth descriptions + physical aftermath talked about), F!Reader (uses the girl's change room but other than that nothing else), all relations are platonic
a/n: Hi anon! Thanks for the request (only took me forever lol), hope you like it :)
Honestly, everyone thought that you were either cold or that the extra layers had something to do with your quirk. Both were plausible conclusions and there had been no other indication it could be some other reason. However, within the first week, the quirk theory was debunked.
Of course, this bred questions upon questions. How the hell did you pass the entrance exam quirkless? And just what are you capable of doing out of the field?
When the opportunity was presented, many not so subtly hinted at you to join the first round of the exercise. Finally, they’d get to see what you can do! Come the end of your round let’s just say they easily understood why you passed the entrance exam and never questioned it again.
This also left them with their final - and only - conclusion that the bundle of clothes you wear is due to you being cold. A few ask if you’d like them to turn the heat up so you could take off an article or two, though you always decline. So be it, they don’t push.
Midoriya has tremendous respect, adoration and idolization for you. Whether he lets it be known or not really just depends on the day. After all, you made it to UA quirkless, the one thing he thought was unachievable. Hell, the whole class may have some ounce of respect for you, seeing as the achievement is inspiring.
They all care very little about your personality or how you first come off. Deep down you’re nice and kind and polite and that's all that mattered to them. You’ll come around eventually, most do.
It's the girls that find out about your little secrets first. Concealing 101 and you trip up; a rookie mistake while changing after class. Shocked and horrified gasps are all you need to hear to know you've let one of the nastier scars show.
Whether you tell them the truth, just some of it or none at all, most will be on the verge of tears. No matter what you say though, they all know that tremendous pain is linked to that mark and insist on reporting it to the police. No accident would leave those scars. And if not the police then at least Mr. Aizawa or All Might (of course, none force you to take this step. They know it's not their place).
Regardless of how much your story was told the ladies all silently agreed to never let slip what they saw that evening. Unfortunately, everyone else knows by the end of the week; another, similar mistake regarding a looser shirt on a warm day slipping down just right being the cause.
It’s more wide-eyed looks than a verbal reaction. You're tossing between running or letting things play out naturally. However, given how your body is locked in freeze mode you don't think you have much of a say. Only when the looks of understanding, curiosity and sympathy (or is it pity?) register are you able to get to your feet. You're making a beeline down the hall and to the safety of your room where no one can see the darker parts of yourself. Unfortunately, it all comes to a crashing halt (literally) when you run into Mr. Aizawa.
Even though he was able to stop you both from falling over the wind is still knocked from his lungs. There’s a quick scolding on the tip of his tongue, something about no running or watching where you’re going, but it quickly dies off when he sees what’s got everyone silent.
The scars are one thing, they’re marks he’s seen often on both himself and others. No, what really has his heart dropping to the pits of his stomach is the branded insignia etched into your skin. He knows it far too well but it’s also something he never thought to see again.
Coming to his senses a mumbled, “…be careful next time," is what leaves his mouth instead, carefully letting you go to walk off to your room. Whatever the Pro Hero was going to say to everyone before doesn't come, instead, he too turns back the way he came. There are some things he has to think about about.
Sleep didn't come easy that night, Aizawa's mind plagued with memories from years ago. He knows that you can't save everyone, it's not always possible, but he could have sworn he and a few others rescued all the victims from the underground ring case. If you slipped under the radar then just how many others did he and his team miss?
There’s a mix of rage and guilt swirling in his chest as he finally drifts off. Aizawa knows what went on in that illegal organization and to think you went through more than you had to because of his negligence? He’ll be kicking himself for it for a while.
Come morning - a weekend thankfully - there were a few ways Aizawa thought to approach this. One was to relay this information to the other Pro Heroes, the ring could still be happening for all they know. The second option was to call you into his office in the dorms and talk with you. Of course, the second option was what he went with.
The room was thick with awkwardness; you, unsure why you'd been called in, and Aizawa was unsure where to begin exactly.
"That symbol... I know, (L/N)." Your teacher didn't have to say much more for you to get where the conversation was heading. He asked if there were others still out there and if there were if you would share their location and any names you might know. Though, he paused in his onslaught upon seeing you curl into yourself.
"Sorry. I just..." want to help. To stop the monsters that do these things to the innocent.
He gives you a moment to calm down before asking if it was alright to continue. Aizawa went slower with his questions, fetching you some water to sip on throughout and staying quiet as you spoke until you were done.
He's a man that gets straight to the point, and at times a man of few words, but he knew that no words would be able to convey how grateful he is or how proud he is that you told him all you could. Even if you couldn't or didn't tell much, it doesn't erase how brave you are for trying.
You have yet to gain your hero license but already you're saving lives. "Thank you."
With your permission, Aizawa told the other Pros that he felt should know. All Might was one of them. He took the news harder than Aizawa did, having worked on the case as well, but he was the one that proudly and confidently stated that all victims had been saved. That every villain was apprehended and that no one else was to be harmed because of them. What a joke - he sees now what a liar he was.
The former number one apologies to you. Full on “I’m sorry... for failing you...” because that’s what he believes he’s done. And in some ways, that's what he did. While others got to go home to whatever families they had or live better lives, you sat chained to a cold and lonely routine, unable to leave the side of the group who used you for their own personal monetary gain and sick entertainment. But perhaps, another part of you wants to forgive, because you too know that the operation was huge and that there are always those few that aren't found. Who are you to hold it against them when they obviously did all they could? Besides, it's not their fault for being deceived - told by those they caught that they had everyone, that there was no one else to catch.
When you were advised that Recovery Girl might be able to patch up and ease the more prominent scars, you weren't sure what to do or say. Still, you figured it wouldn't hurt to go and see her. The moment the little old lady peeked at your skin her smile faded. Before, she had kept a conversation going with you but now she continued her examination in silence. She'd been told what to roughly expect but she couldn't be prepared for the sheer volume of it all.
As soon as the old woman finished she told it to you straight: "I'm sorry dear. At best I can give you something to allow them to fade but I make no guarantee that any would disappear." Despite the news, you thank her and leave with the cream and ointment she prescribed.
Nezu asked for you to visit him a few days later. While keeping his cheery tone he told you that if at any point you couldn't complete an assignment, accommodations would be made for you. After all, he wishes for all UA students to be safe and succeed - you included. (And perhaps it's because he too understood a fraction at least of what you'd gone through. He knew the trials it takes to get back on your feet and that there is no easy, straightforward path.)
Your friends encourage you at times to shed the scarf or jacket you wear around the dorm, assuring you that your scars don't scare them and that they won't judge you for them. While old habits are very hard to break (especially when tied to something traumatic, something that each of your classmates understands is hard to unravel) there are times when you can let yourself breathe just a little easier and stay cool during the warmer months. In these times, it's the little achievements that go a long way.
The whole class makes it so that they watch their tones and movements - they don't want to accidentally bring forth a memory. Half the class already was pretty quiet but it's students like Bakugou that you can really see the change in. Anyone can see that if you're around his voice isn't as loud compared to before, or that there are fewer and fewer times his hands will pop with mini explosions. Midoriya, Mina, Ida, Uraraka, Denki and Kirishima become more aware to tone down their own voices as well, knowing that they can get pretty loud at times. Shouji watched where his extra limbs were and Tokoyami instructed Dark Shadow to not creep up on you.
Todoroki will sometimes randomly come up to you and share a tip or two on how to care for your burns (both long-term and for any more recent ones should there be any) while Midoriya tells you how he personally maintains his scarring.
There was only once that everyone collectively told you that you could talk to them if you'd like. A few pointed out that if you were told repeatedly then you might be inclined to not reach out, hence their decision. Teachers, classmates, whoever, you could talk to them if you want or need to. Each of them would be there for you no matter what and they want to make that clear. Whether you reached out or not is up to you.
