Political TW, also one of the rare times I've been talking about it.

You know I have been thinking about it for a bit. And I don't blame anyone for hating America, the UK, Japan or any other major country now for stuff like colonialism, imperialism, genocide etc etc. Like every major country that had some global power has committed some terrible stuff and I would never want to deny people their feelings about what those countries governments did to innocent people. I respect not wanting to support something when they hurt so many lives.

Personally I don't hate like any country besides the big dictatorships like Russia, North Korea, Israel etc. But I can easily see why people would hate America for example for what they did to Native American tribes or Japan for what they did to various Asian countries during the 30s and 40s. And I honestly respect people for thinking that way because that stuff is NOT COOL and not ok at all. No excuses. At all. I personally respect anyone who doesn't want to support something when it was doing something extremely shitty to a group of people for no reason other then power and greed.

Those who walk away from Omelas and how you’re living in a utopia but then you discover that it’s at the expense of an innocent child, and how said child is being tortured. Being told that as long as you ignore what’s happening the utopian world will continue and be fine

Kara and Ruthye being told by the blues of maypole that everything is fine and observing how everything seems so normal and simple but learning it’s at the expense of the purples and how the blues gained their freedom from the brigands

But people do walk away from Omelas, and Kara pushes and questions the blues of maypole. You can choose to stare both of the realities of each place in the face and state that how if a utopia or a happy neighborhood is able to happen because of the suffering and genocide of others than the way these places operate are plainly wrong. Even if the sacrifice is one person compared to hundereds like in Omelas
