blogging

Throughout this semester and blogging each week I feel like I learned a lot about myself, writing, and others. Blogging is nice because sometimes it’s just about expressing your thoughts on certain topics and bring up topics we feel should be brought up etc. I like blogging because of the freedom it brings. I feel like in writing I’m good at expressing my thoughts and ideas better then speaking or taking about them. I think I need to work on the quality of writing though. I feel like my thoughts and ideas are there and good, but I need to better organize my writing and have better structure throughout my writing.  I need to find a way to make sure my audience is even understanding what I am saying in my writing. In the beginning, I didn’t really know how to “blog” so it was kind of rough, as my blogs show. As I did more of these blogs and read more of my classmates blogs I learned more about how to blog. I kind of like the idea of blogging because we are all able to express our ideas and thoughts it’s pretty similar to journal writing in my opinion which I enjoy. But the only thing I dislike abut it is the topics. Some topics I really enjoy sharing my thoughts and ideas and others I don’t. Some are easier for me to express myself and put my thoughts into words but some I don’t really have much knowledge or put much thought into it which makes it more difficult to blog about. I like the freedom of this blogging but I want even more. I would like to be able to blog about any topic of my choice every week because I feel as writers we enjoy writing about whatever it is on our mind at the moment and to me that’s kind of what blogging is really about. Expressing yourself through writing, and I think that sometimes-certain topics that are given instead of chosen may make it more difficult to write. I see how topics are helpful for a grading standpoint but maybe have a few options or a more general topic of choice allowing the writer to have more writing freedom and I think there will be much better quality blogs each week because the writer is forced to write on something they don’t want to write about or have no ideas or thoughts on.

I would say my favorite presentation was the one on abortion. This is my favorite one because I agree with her presentation 100%. I do not think abortion is right and I definitely don’t think it should be legal! Like Billy said, weed isn’t even legal! So how could we allow killing innocent baby lives to be legal? To me a life is a life, no matter the size of the organism. It’s a life, a human life! This isn’t some organism of another creature it’s a human life no matter the size. If someone were to injure the women by kicking or hitting her in the stomach killing the baby they would’ve be charged with murder of some sort. So how is it an okay for a dr to do it? Some argue it’s okay for the doctor to kill the baby because they have the mothers consent. To me this is also wrong, how can anyone give anyone consent if killing any innocent human life. No one should have that much power, especially legal power to kill a human. Others argue that it is okay for some people who get an abortion because it was the result of a rape. This is where I understand the side of which agree with abortions somewhat. But not completely still. I do believe in God which also helps me disagree with abortions but I’ve been trying to keep religious beliefs out for those who aren’t religious. But to me this is just a moral thing. Why Should the child of this rape victim suffer for their fathers sin. Think about that for just a second. Although some of you may not be religious why should anyone suffer because of someone else actions. This is awful to me. Not to mention the way in which they are killing these baby’s is not always the best way they could do it and is often torturous. To me at the end of the day it’s killing and killing isn’t right to me, especially innocent baby’s. I believe there are much better and human ways to go about things if a mother cannot care for her child. One of those things would be more and better sex education in our schools. This may keep younger people who cannot care for a child whether its financial or maturity from having sex without using other things such as condoms etc. we should also just have smarter people using these things so they’re are no accidental baby’s, which maybe people should also consider the fact that every time you have sex there’s a possibility of having a child no matter what you try to use. Instead of killing the child and having so many abortions for no reasons we could have them put the baby up for adoption. Yes, this could still get out of hand as well. But they’re are many other possibilities of having the child cared for in much more humane ways. I believe everyone should be given the chance of life, so maybe people just shouldn’t have so many babies if they aren’t ready for it, which by the way is the large percentage of abortion cases.

gender thoughts

I believe women in particular are not being treated fairly in society. According to many studies its proven in many aspects of life. Women are often looked down upon by society often as well. Breast feeding for example is a completely natural thing. Their literally feeding their children in the purest way. Yet they are frowned upon if they do this in a public place. People in our society are prejudice for this. They think its gross or inappropriate but is a completely natural thing. Many women dont think this is right, but im double sided on this topic. I think its a completely natural thing so it should be okay right? But isnt using the restroom also a completely natural thing? Yet men, also women who pee in public are usually also looked down upon by society. They are both natural things but they are both considered private in our society. Both parts sued are looked upon as private parts. But at the same time women need to feed their kids. So maybe they should have places such as the bathroom where they can do this. Or maybe people should mind their own business and let the few people who feel comfortable breast feeding in public, breast feed in public and not look at it as wrong or sexual etc. I dont know, im always open minded on topics so i see and understand all sides of everything but this is a hard topic for me to have a set view on. Another example id like to bring up about woman roles is about how males may look at females as less physically strong. This could also be considered as prejudice. but at the same time women and men are both born physically different wear men are built different and stronger. But this could be wrong too because their are plenty of women stronger then men. But i think the reason woman may be looked at as physically weaker could be they are born and usually go throughout life weaker then most men. But i used the words “usually” and “most” which means not all so why do men look at all women as weaker that would be prejudice. These are two topics for genders i have a hard time having a strong sided view on. I dont know which side is wrong or right because I see both sides points. This goes for many, many different other topics as well.

can love really be there?

A topic that it important to me that we should talk about that we haven’t talked about this semester is love. How would a person truly know they are in love. Would god give you the signs? What are the signs? Could the signs be: -having deep conversations -going to sleep to eachothers voice -telling secrets to eachother -telling other people’s secrets to eachother -sharing pictures of eachother on social media -making slide shows for couple goals -going to the movies -arguing and making up -telling childhood memories with eachother -Holding hands in public -showing eachother off -not acting shy Is that enough? Is that what love is?

This topic is important to me because a person can go years thinking the person they are with loves them because of the things they do together. But deep down the other could possibly not feel the same way. The love might not be on the same level. What if the other is trying to figure out a way to say “i want to see other people” was the love ever there then?

If a person loves you isn’t he or she supposed to stay with you because you can only have that type of love for one person. Type of love? How many types are they? Could they be: -the Love for your personality -the love for your money -the love for they way you Lust -the love for your faithfulness -the love for your honesty We need to educate our selves on this so we dont be fooled or tricked! By being suckered into that faze that we thought was gonna be forever!

People shouldn’t cause such heart break, such stress. The stress of thinking the love was real.

It shouldn’t break you though, it should help build you and teach you. It should teach that you do not NEED a man or woman. You should be able to strive alone, and do bad all by your self!

But should you hold a barrier up? Not letting anyone in forever? No. You do not want to possibly block your true match out because you thought it was just another person trying to come in your life just to walk out. Do not block ck out the wrong person, you do want to give some one a chance some day. Its just the matter of, is the love real or not? How do you know? If i can not truly find out, then would i ever find out?

This is a really interesting topic. Love is a word that I think we can all agree we have many definitions of how people display love. Some people display love different then others. Some people may think they're in love but they aren't. Love is a word that can mean many different things. Although everyone may have they're own definition of what love is and they're own little way of how they display love is different but I think we can all see that love is a very deep emotional feeling. Some people may just have different feelings then others.

Topics

A topic we should speak on in class is being adults and what makes a person an adult. For example what must have to happen for a person to know that there are an adult. Also, why aren’t we taught how to be an adult in high school or in college we just have to learn on our own as well as being a parent. People have different believe systems but, universal what makes a individual a good adult. 

Another issue we can speak on in class is social issues that are going on world wide and how us as individuals can start movements to make the world a better place to live in. 

Expressing our own opinion so others know how we feel about things that are happening around us.

I agree with this 110 percent! This topic of adulting is so important. Yet we never talk about it. We are never even taught anything about it. Education is supposed to get us ready for real life, yet most people don't even know how to "adult" or take on adult responsibilities.. being an adult isn't easy, especially when you have learned how to do nothing to be an adult. We should have a class in high school that teaches adult things, like how to budget your money properly, or how the "real" world works.

Meals on Wheels

 Meals on Wheels America is the oldest and largest national organization supporting more than 5,000 community-based senior nutrition programs across the country that are dedicated to addressing senior hunger and isolation. Established in 1974, it has provided funding, leadership, education and advocacy support, Meals on Wheels America empowers its local members to provide services to their communities.More than two million volunteers deliver the nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks. And those who are more ambulatory are fed at local community and senior centers

 President Donald Trump 2018 budget could slash some funding for a program that provides meals for the older. Programs across the country are serving fewer meals and are waiting to join Meals on Wheels because of how much it’s growing. Jenny Bertolette, that’s in the communicating and marketing team at Meals Wheels says “The Older Americans Act, as a function of the US Department of Health and Human Services, which is facing the specter of cuts itself, covers 35% of the costs for the visits, safety checks and meals that the local agencies dole out to 2.4 million senior citizens,” This is an issue if President Donald Trump cuts the budget for this organization. Even though 3% of the budget for Meals on Wheels’ national office comes from government grants. Each state allocates this funding differently, so it’s difficult to summarize the total impact on the nationwide network. For Example City meal on Wheels has 15,412 New Yorkers whose dedicated volunteers that delivers food and connect with the elderly people in the neighborhood.

 If President Donald Trump has a tight budget why cant he cut an Organization that doesn’t have involves elderly?

 How many Americans have a disability that counts on Meals on Wheels?

 If President Donald Trump cuts the budget, will Meals on Wheels ever overcome there lost?

 Has someone tried to put a stop to Donald trumps decision?

 How many veterans are meals on wheels feeding?

 Are Elderly citizens important to America Society?

 This is something that we should educate ourselves with because this is a current event issue. And that will impact many elderly Americans. Also the community service that the dedicated volunteers receive will get cut. Some of these elderly people are veterans that has served this country and fought for our safety and freedom.  What will happen to those that can’t walk and make their food, they just going to order food for rest of their life.

This is a really cool topic in my opinion. This is something positive. We are always discussing things that are negative and that's good, because we are talking about problems and trying to create solutions for those problems. But these discussions don't always have to be about something negative. This topic is so positive and cool. Now more people know about this cause and more people can now have a positive impact on someone's else life!

Stop trying to make other people happy. You come first. Other people are not going to live their lives and make everyone one of their decisions based on how you will feel about it. That is why you have to do what makes you happy and what benefits you at the end of the day. Nothing else in this world should matter besides your happiness. As long as you are happy with yourself and with what you have nothing else will matter. Set goals in your life based on things that you wanna do. Stop caring about what others think of you. You do not need to buy jewelry and fancy clothes and unnecessary things just to impress other people. If you think about it, when you are older designer clothes and fancy jewelry will not matter, so it should not matter now. I feel like social media is only promoting this whole era where are just doing things to impress each other. I believe everyone wants to just buy designer clothes and fancy jewelry just to take pictures to post on social media and put on a show for the rest of the world. Everyone is trying to put on a front and pretend as if they do not go through problems in their lives. And social media is promoting this behavior .Social media users only want other people to see only a certain part of their lives, and I am not saying that is a bad thing. People on social media should not know everything that is going on in your life but, do not use it as a way to make people envious. That’s why internal happiness is so important. If you are happy with yourself and you do not seek validation from anyone else you’ll be successful in life. And even if you do buy fancy clothes and jewelry make sure you do it because it will make you happy. Not because of how you other people will see you.

I like this topic, a lot! I feel like most people these days really care way too much about what other people think about them. They're always trying to change who they are in order to impress someone and make someone like them. I can't stand this. If someone doesn't like who you really are, then why would you want to be their friend or even care if they liked you or not. Me personally will never change who I truly am to make someone else like me or be my friend. It just not worth it. Be who you are, do what you want to do, and friend those who accept you for who you are.

Greed

When talking about world issues, most people will bring up: poverty, world hunger, national debt, governmental corruption etc. But hardly anyone ever brings up the corruption of Wall Street as an issue; that is until recently in the 2017 election, where candidate Bernie Sanders mentioned how he would regulate the financial sector, particularly Wall Street.  When people bring up the economic crash of 2008, do they really know what happened? Does the general public have an understanding of what led millions of Americans to lose their jobs, and homes? Not many do, and that is why financial corruption must be discussed more frequently in class; it has affected our lives dramatically, and most people don’t even know it.

Financial corruption is responsible for the suffering of many people. One example is the recession of 2008. The situation that occurred in 2008 was due to the crash of the housing market in America. There were many factors leading the 2008 financial crisis but the biggest one was CDOs. CDO (Collateralized Debt Obligations) are basically bundles of mortgages that banks sell to investors. These bundles are filled with tens of thousands of mortgages, which people pay off over time with interest. Investors buy these CDOs looking for long term profit over a period of time. Each CDO has a different rating, from the highest AAA, to the lowest B.

CDOs that are A’s or BBB, BB or B, have a high risk of not paying off, because the mortgages they are filled with are risky; this means the home owners are not paying their mortgages. The big banks such as Goldman Sachs, and Lehman Brothers were bribing the rating agencies to give them the ratings they wanted. They knew that if you could bundle many high risk mortgages with high quality mortgages, you could sell them as AAA’s. They were basically lying to the investors. When the housing market crashed in 2008, the widespread unemployment we witnessed was due to the recklessness of the Banks. Almost no one in the world predicted that the housing market would crash, and when it did, all of that money was gone. The amount of free reign the private sector is given is horrifying.  There are also many financial regulations that have to be put in place in order to prevent things like this from happening again. This is why we need to discuss financial corruption more often.

I completely agree this is a huge problem that isn't discussed enough. Banks are one of the biggest scams of all time and are also corrupt. There's a reason why so many investors invest so much money into banks, because there is so much money to be made. Financial corruption is one of the main reasons why people are in debt. Although I may not have all of the answers on how to fix this problem I definitely think this should be a much more common discussed topic. If we find a way to get rid of this funicular corruption everyone can benefit from in financially.

problem

I feel like one problem they we have today and that is continually getting worse and we have yet to really talk about it is fake social media information. Social media is used by all of us throughout the day. Most the information on social media is just from our friends and family. But there are other companies, fake pages etc. on social media. This causes a lot of spam and spread of false information. These pages are making memes that people share because they find it funny or relatable etc. But now days some peoples entire view on politics has nothing to do with the politician’s actual policies but the memes meaning. People hate trump because of these memes which are full of false information. People love Trump based off of false memes and information. The artist of these memes is creating a big problem by spreading all of this false information because we as a generation are buying into it. When you see a picture that says something have you ever fact checked it? Maybe we do this sometimes but do we fact check the things we see on social media enough? In my opinion, no. I am also guilty of this myself. I’m a fan of the show Shameless that just recently got popular. I recently shared a link that had a picture of the character “lip” and said he got into an argument with the producer and quit. I didn’t even bother to click onto the link itself to read more or see where this information is coming from. I didn’t fact check or make sure what I was reading was from a reputable, valuable, source. This isn’t really a huge problem when it’s about an actor. But I feel like there are many times where this could potentially be a he problem in the future for social media. Where eventually it’ll just be filled with so much nonsense and people will be lazy and buy into it. This could be pretty bad depending on what kind of information these memes and fake pages are putting out there. I think this is definitely a big problem that is getting worse and worse that nobody is really realizing that could potentially be even more harmful then it is now in the future. What do you think? Overdose

In the Louisville area there was 52 calls in 32 hours about overdose on heroin. Heroin use is a problem within that area the Metro Emergency Services answered 695 overdose calls in January. Families are losing their husbands, daughters, sons, cousins and mothers because of this addiction to heroin. 

Overdose is the leading death in American homes. There was 52,404 overdose in 2015 and they were an accident. Teens within the ages of 12-25 years old that are using drugs are most likely to overdose because they want to reach the highest limit.

Even as a teenager I still dealt with people in my life that overdose and was in put in the hospital but did not die. The person was put in the hospital for 12 days and everyone was praying for him hoping he would get better. When he got better he would overdose and which would get everyone upset because they were tired of him acting like a child and wish he would act like a man get a real job and do something better with his life. 

It’s hard to deal with individuals with addiction because they never see the problem and do not understand why everyone around them are so upset. Many people give up on them because the would get tighter of their ways. 

When the person who is addicted gets there help everyone gets thankful and happy but still hope the person does not get back into their old ways.

The blog provided important details relating to drug addiction, but it did not successfully analyze the article where you got the information. You had significant information already included in your blog to develop the analyzation of logos, and pathos. You just have to analyze the text, and provide examples from the text. For example, you could have said the article uses logos efficiently by providing statistics on the death rate of overdoses in America, and then provided a quote from the article. The blog lacked the analyzation portion, but it did have a serious topic, that would’ve been great to analyze.

Black history month is a month to honor all the Africans Americans who helped bring our culture and get recognition for what they did for the African community.Black History Month began as “Negro History Week,” which started around 1926 by Carter G. Woodson. He was known for being a African American historian, scholar, teacher, and author. It became a month-long celebration in 1976. The month of February was picked because it had people who had to do with helping African Americans culture to be treated equal. February has birthdays ofFrederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.

Some of the pioneers that paved the way for African Americans that are recognized during this month would include Harriet Tubman for the Underground Railroad, Martin Luther king jr ,Gandhi and Rosa parks for their non violent approach to get equality. While Malcom x and the panthers use a violent approach to try and get change and equality. Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play in the MLB. But do you know Ben Carson ? Ben Carson was a neurosurgeon who was most known for being the first separate two combined twins. By him doing this and many other accomplishments, he made a big name for African American doctors In the 1950s. A few holidays that help celebrate the African American culture would include Juneteenth, kwanza and Martin Luther king jr day. Juneteenth is celebrated in June and it is a fun and good time to learn about the African American community. If you are in buffalo during this week and you can go to Martin Luther king jr park and watch dances and learn about the culture. Kwanza takes place the day after Christmas and it’s goes until the new year. This is a time to bring African American families closer together and honor ancient African American cultures and help focus African Americans striving for goals and practice. Martin Luther King jr day is a day to honor a African American man who used a non violent attempt to create change and equality for the African Americans in the 1900s. His life was taken too soon so in order to pay homage to him, he now has a holiday to help with that. I never knew that Black History Month was at first a week. The growth African Americans have accomplished is astounding to me. I wonder next what we’re willing to accomplish. Also learning about our Juneteenth. My parents hasn’t even educated me on it’s cultivative development. Do you think that our towns history and holidays should be taught in our school. Why or why not? I believed it should because it can help others accomplish and it’s always good to have knowledge of our history. I agree, Black History Month  is  a month to honor African Americans who helped bring our culture and get recognition for what they did for the African community.  Each person talked about in this blog have each made their own special impact on civil rights. I never knew about Juneteenth until now. I think its a great event. It would be really cool to go to and learn more about African American culture and have a good time while doing it. I personally learned a lot about black history month. I always thought of it more of remembrance and to support those who fought for black civil rights. But it is also about learning about the culture, where it came from, and what it became.

Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot County, Maryland. There is no accurate knowledge of when he was born or his age or any record containing either. He was mixed race with Native American, African, and European. He was born with the name Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey but After escaping to the North years later, he took the surname Douglass. He lost his mom at a young age and began learning the alphabet shortly after. He started to self-teach himself how to read and write. He began to learn a lot and began teaching other slaves what he was learning. He was educating slaves but the slave owners had noticed and put an end to it to disperse the congregation permanently. Fredrick Douglas has made a huge impact as a civil rights activist. He escaped from slavery in Maryland and began writing antislavery writings which got him to be known. Some people couldn’t believe he was once a slave because he was such a great public speaker and skilled writer. He argued that slaved lacked the intellectual capacity to function as independent American citizens. Douglas wrote several autobiographies but his best seller “Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave” described his personal experiences as a slave in 1845. Frederick didn’t only want to abolish slavery and help African Americans but he also actively supported woman’s suffrage.   Douglas is one underrated person in my option. He wanted nothing but the best for everyone. Equality for everyone, black, recent immigrant, female, or Native American. He also believed in making alliances across racial and ideological divides, and in the liberal values of the American constitution. Frederick said “I will unite with anyone to do right and with nobody to do wrong”. Some argue that Douglass is the most influential African American of the 19th century. He spoke on behalf of women rights, peace, land reform, free public education, and the abolishment of capital punishment etc. But he mostly focused on ending slavery and gaining equal rights for African Americans. Douglass understood that the struggle for emancipation and equality demanded forceful, persistent, and unyielding agitation. And he recognized that African Americans must play a conspicuous role in that struggle. Less than a month before his death, when a young black man solicited his advice to an African American just starting out in the world, Douglass replied without hesitation: “Agitate! Agitate!
