Note to self
under no circumstances should you ever tell your musically obsessed child that you had to talk their mother out of buying them an instrument. In this case a euphonium. You will receive a death glare. I was worried I was about an incoming force choke
my mum is nagging me to take driving lessons, but i don't want to cos it's scary so I wrote this
Perfectly Fine
Harry bought a sensible car. He was going to be a sensible adult. He was absolutely not going to let his nineteen-year-old girlfriend drive it through Central London three weeks after buying a book about it. And yet. Here they are. On the A1. In traffic. Ginny is beaming. Harry has not let go of the door handle in forty minutes.
The book had been Ginny's idea.
The Complete British Driver's Handbook: Everything You Need to Know to Pass Your Theory and Practical Test with Confidence, by one Geoffrey M. Hartley, MIAM, whoever that was. She'd ordered it three weeks ago and Harry had watched her read the entire thing cover to cover in four days, which was frankly more academic effort than he'd seen from her in six years of Hogwarts combined. She'd highlighted passages. She'd made notes in the margins. She'd quizzed him on stopping distances at dinner until he could recite them in his sleep.
"Seventy-three metres at sixty miles per hour," he'd mumbled once at two in the morning, and she'd patted his head and said good boy like he was a very promising student.
He should have known this was all leading somewhere terrible.
"I'm ready," she said now, standing beside the Volkswagen Golf in the car park of a Tesco Extra in Islington with her hands on her hips and her chin up, looking like she was about to lead a Quidditch team into battle. She was wearing her hair back and she'd borrowed his aviator sunglasses and she looked, objectively, completely brilliant standing there.
She also had absolutely no business being behind the wheel of a car.
"Gin," Harry said. "We've talked about this."
"We have," she agreed pleasantly. "And I won."
"You didn't win, that's not — that's not how conversations work—"
"Harry." She looked at him with those brown eyes, warm and patient and utterly immovable, the way she looked when she'd already decided something and was simply waiting for the universe to catch up. "I have read that book twice. I know the stopping distances. I know what a box junction is. I know that you must not reverse further than is necessary, whatever that means. I am completely prepared."
Harry looked at his car. It was eleven days old. He'd driven it off the forecourt himself, still slightly amazed that he was the sort of person who could walk into a dealership and buy a car, that he had a bank account with enough money in it, that he was, in some technical sense, a functional adult. It was a very sensible car. Dark navy. Four doors. Good safety rating. He'd bought it because Teddy was three years old and you couldn't Apparate with a toddler, which he'd discovered the hard way — not by doing it, thank God, but by imagining it vividly enough to feel sick.
The car had done nothing wrong. It deserved better than this.
"What about," he tried, "we do the car park first? Just — driving around here? Getting used to the—"
"I've read about car parks. They're straightforward." She was already opening the driver's side door. "Come on, we're wasting daylight."
Harry stood very still for a moment and had a quiet conversation with himself. He was Harry Potter. He had faced Voldemort seven times, depending on how you counted. He had died, briefly, in a forest. He had flown a Hungarian Horntail and survived the bottom of a lake and walked through a wall of Fiendfyre and come out the other side.
He could survive his nineteen year old girlfriend driving a Volkswagen Golf through North London.
He got in the car.

Ginny adjusted the seat with the confidence of someone who had been driving for thirty years. She moved it forward two clicks, then back one, then decided the first position had been fine and moved it forward again. She tilted the steering wheel. She adjusted the mirrors with small, authoritative movements. She put both hands on the wheel at ten and two — that she definitely knew from the book, Harry had watched her memorize it — and sat up very straight.
"Right," she said. "Ignition."
"Gin, you need to—"
"Clutch in." She pressed the clutch. "Gear to neutral." She checked. "Turn the key."
The engine turned over and caught and Ginny's face broke into a smile of such pure delight that Harry almost forgot to be terrified.
"There we go," she said warmly, like the car was a horse she'd just gentled. "Hello."
"You're talking to the car."
"It's polite."
"Ginny—"
"Okay." She checked the mirrors in quick succession — left, middle, right, left — which was correct, Harry noticed despite himself, she had definitely read the book. "Handbrake off. First gear. Clutch up slowly to the biting point—"
The car kangarooed forward eight inches and stalled.
Silence.
"That," Ginny said carefully, "was a calibration."
"Absolutely," Harry said. His knuckles were already white.
She started the engine again. She found the biting point again — more carefully this time — and the Golf rolled forward in a manner that was, technically, driving. They crossed the car park at roughly four miles per hour. Harry breathed. This was fine. This was actually completely fine. They were in a car park. There was nothing to hit except a few trolley bays and a—
Ginny turned toward the exit.
"Wait—"
"I'm ready for the road," she said serenely.
"You've been driving for forty-five seconds!"
"And I've been reading about it for three weeks. It balances out."
It did not balance out. Harry was fairly certain that was not how any of this worked. He opened his mouth to say so and then they were at the exit of the car park and Ginny was peering left and right with great seriousness and then she pulled out into the road.
New One-Shot Alert!
The Potato Theory
Harry Potter knew what he saw. Unfortunately, nobody believed his potato theory.
Honestly, don't even ask. I have no idea what possessed me to write this. Happy Christmas in June! Here's some pre-Hinny OOTP cuteness.
Just started reading The Alice Network third morning and holy shit am I hooked. Only two chapters in and I just wanna skip with to go home and read it all day.

Finished reading The Alice Network last night and yup the book was amazing. Eve was written so exceptionally well. All her experiences were written so vividly.
10/10 recommend.
I honestly think Gen-Z and younger simply does not understand how recent widespread smartphone adoption is.
I am not that old, and I didn't have a smartphone until probably late high school. For most of my life, many if not most people were not walking around with a magic internet machine in their pocket that they pulled out and used constantly for everything.
reblog if you remember having to ration your text messages and accidentally opening the internet on your phone was the end of the world
also remember having to limit phone calls to friends with different cell carriers so as to not go over minutes. Learned to know which carrier used which pre-fixes get quickly

his and hers on Netflix is much watch. 10/10 recommend. Bernthal and Thompson are brilliant together
If a female is stuck in her pregnant animagus form will she give birth to a human or her animagus animal? Will that baby be stuck as an animal until learns to eventually become human? Now picture Lily becoming an animagus and getting killed as she as giving birth, she gives birth to a fawn (Harry) and he’s living his best life hitting on his red furry female fawn when he sees a pretty little red headed girl who wants to pet him and BAM he turns into his human form. She looks frightened, so Harry not knowing any better starts nudging her with his nose and sniffing her. I think @seriouslysam8 needs to write this. It’s gold.
Ummm @seriouslysam8 come get your readers.
At the dealership getting my wife's oil change and they wanna charge $90 for windshield wipers replacement. NINETY!! I had better not need a replacement ever again.
Harry likes to spoil Ginny a bit much with presents. Tapping into his “I want a gold cauldron the second I have money” energy. Ginny is grateful but gets uncomfortable since she can afford to reciprocate and they have to work through it.
Well, this grew considerably longer than I planned for it to be, so it’s going straight to AO3 - Merry Christmas, anon! 🥰
Ginny’s jaw dropped upon opening her bedroom door and finding herself faced with what could only be described as a mountain of carefully wrapped presents hovering expectantly in front of her.
“Are you joking?” She stepped back, allowing Harry and the teetering pile of gifts he was directing with his wand admittance into her room.
He’d only left it ten minutes ago, when the first rays of winter sun peaking through Ginny’s pink curtains had signalled that he and Hermione needed to swap back to their assigned beds if their clandestine sleeping arrangements were to remain a secret from Ginny’s mother.
“I’ll be back with your presents,” he’d promised, pressing a kiss to her lips and slipping out of the door before she could remind him that they’d agreed to just one gift each.
It was a rule Ginny had insisted upon, owing to her severe lack of funds until she finished school in a few months and could finally make her own money.
Harry had agreed easily enough, too easily now that Ginny thought about it. Evidently she should have been more suspicious of his acquiescence, but she’d been too relieved that she didn’t need to try and conjure up money she didn’t have — or try and pass a kiss off as an acceptable gift again, when she was quite happy to be giving those away freely now — to question his lack of protest at the time.
She was most definitely going to question it now however.
Her arms crossed over her chest, the soft cotton sleeves of her candy-striped pyjamas brushing against one another as she lifted an accusatory eyebrow in Harry’s direction.
But he was steadfastly avoiding Ginny’s eye, keeping his gaze locked firmly on the pile of presents he was now arranging at the foot of her bed.
“I hope those are for your other girlfriend,” she said, tapping her slippered foot on the floor

USPS package delivery saga
12/10 Go into the post office to hold package being delivered the next day and we'll pick it up 12/13. Get told no problem and provide tracking number.
Track package on 12/11 shows package being held. 12/12 package gets delivered to house 😑😑
12/18 notice a package that was supposed to be delivered via DHL 12/15 is missing but showing delivered to mailbox or near (we have shared mailbox with our street)
12/19 my spouse goes into the post office to see if they have missing package. Lo and behold they have the package plus all of our mail for the week 😑😑😑 apparently they placed a hold all mail on our address. Not only did they hold our mail but somehow I ended up with my mom's mail and some other random persons mail from a town THIRTY MINUTES AWAY.
i know I'm really super late to the party but everyone needs to go watch A Man on the Inside is you haven't already. Another Ted Danson masterpiece. Also the chemistry between Stephanie Beatrice and Lilah Estrada is amazing.
Hold on tightly

Arthur/Molly realise Harry is in love with Ginny
Molly looked up from the cookbook she was perusing for fun recipes for Christmas when her husband entered the kitchen.
“She’s still seeing Dean, is she?” Arthur asked quietly.
“She is,” Molly confirmed. “Why?”
Arthur pointed through the doorway at Ginny and Harry talking animatedly as they folded paper chains together. It was the first time in ages that Molly had seen Harry smile like that.
“Nothing against Dean, but I’m afraid he doesn’t stand a chance if she knows she has a shot with Harry,” Arthur mumbled.
Molly shrugged, flipping to the next page of the book. “Oh, I don’t know. It’s been a while, hasn’t it?”
Her husband hummed so she read on but then he nudged her with his elbow. “Look!”
Ginny had folded a large Santa shape out of some paper and was making Harry hold it. His cheeks coloured a deep red as Ginny adjusted his hands. He hung onto her every word.
“It’s essential that you don’t let go, okay?” she said, smiling widely all the while.
He nodded, eyes on her and not the paper. “I have never held something so tightly. I promise.”
She blushed in turn. “Good.” She retrieved the tape from the crafting box. “Ready?”
“Yep, still ready.” He grinned at her. “Take your time. My hands aren’t cramping up at all.”
She snorted. “I think the Slytherins are correct,” she mused, putting a bit of tape right by his fingertip. “You’re so dramatic.”
“What! You take that back right now,” he said with a grin.
She laughed. “I don’t think so!”
“You take that back right now or I’m letting go.” He gestured with the paper Santa still held tightly between his fingers.
“No! Don’t let go!” Ginny’s hands clasped over his immediately to prevent him from letting go.
Both of them stilled and Harry stared at her. His adam’s apple bobbed up and down and her hands remained firmly on his.
He chuckled awkwardly. “Fine. I won’t let go.”
“You promise?” she asked.
He glanced away from her face, his cheeks flushing even further. “I promise.”
Arthur raised a knowing eyebrow towards his wife. “I dare say he’s in love.”
“Maybe,” Molly said gently. She did not want to put expectations onto her children about who they should be with, but yet the image of Harry beside Ginny looking at her the way he did just now popped up in her mind. Yes, she could see them together perfectly well.
Except things were far more precarious for the pair than their playful banter suggested.
“What?” Arthur asked.
“Do those poor kids even stand a chance?” she asked quietly, searching her husband’s eyes for an answer. “With everything going on? And Harry—” Her throat closed up.
Arthur rubbed her arm comfortingly. “I don’t know what will come of it, but I do know that they both deserve happiness and if that’s together for them… I wouldn’t mind that.”
They watched Harry and Ginny in silence for a moment longer. They seemed oblivious to the people around them, as if the rest of the world had seized to exist the moment they started talking to each other. Ginny finally let Harry release his hold on the paper Santa. Even though his duty was done, he remained seated beside her and asked how she was going to do the finishing touches and she demanded that he signed his name alongside hers so it would be forever known he had helped.
“They do make a wonderful pair,” Molly agreed.
Arthur squeezed her shoulder. “They do. Doesn’t love prevail?”
Her hand cupped her husband’s cheek. “I choose to believe it does.”
Okay sooooo, did Sirius know that Remus was teaching at Hogwarts during PoA?
He didn't know that Snape was teaching there... so... how much did he know?
And also, suppose he wondered why Remus never told anyone about Sirius's Animagus form? Like...if he knew, do you think he would have tried sneaked in to convince Remus of the truth?
How are you? You haven’t been on here in a while.
hey there anon I've been good!! Just took a step away from socials for a few months.
Not to b like this bc I know i have mutuals who say this (and I love you and i know it comes from a good place 😘) but I think it is okay to engage in "character erasure" especially in the HP fandom.
I don't engage with characters I don't like, and frankly, I'd rather have someone who loathes a character that I personally love just sort of leave 'em alone anyway. I mean, you don't have to, obviously, because fandom discourse is fun, but like, if someone really hates a character, why should they feel compelled to include them in their fics/art? Idk, maybe it's just because I have my little fandom corner that I'm comfortable saying this...
But if you feel like your fave gets left out, then might I suggest creating more art of them? Or fic? Or metas? Sometimes sharing what you like about a character instead of trying to shame people into feeling bad about not liking them is a better way to get people on your side.
Idk, just my two cents. Also, so I don't get eviscerated, I do know that some characters are ignored because of societal biases and prejudices, but I also think that making people feel guilty about that isn't a great way to sell a character. I mean, if you want your fave to be more popular, show folks what makes them great!
