Dear @staff,
Since you seem to be in the mood of making changes, I’d like to propose one that would be beneficial: Please allow us to switch primary/secondary blogs.
Limits would have to be put in place, of course. Otherwise people could just jump around. (But they do that anyway using URLs.) How about only once every six months? Or something.
It has come to the point where I am more active on a secondary blog then my primary one, and I am sure many are in the same situation. It’s quite annoying that I can’t send people asks as my secondary, or follow them as my secondary; aka the one most people know me as. I would like to change this.
Chances are you will never even see this open letter, but it was worth a shot.
staff You are recommending that I follow a nazi blog I blocked last night. Your site promotes anti-semitism to Jews. Your site shoves Nazi Swastikas in the faces of Jews. It’s bad enough that the Nazi blogs seem to be sprouting up like weeds on a site that claims to have an anti-hate policy, but to actively promote them to people who have taken the steps of blocking these blogs is beyond the pale. Clean this place up. It’s turning into Stormfront. I encourage everyone who sees this post, Jewish or otherwise, to reblog it. Tumblr has been ignoring the growth of Nazism on this site for too long. It needs to end.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who was officially sworn in on November 4th, 2015, gives a very simple answer as to why he decided to have 15 men and 15 women on his cabinet.
The latest email advertisement from the Conservative Party of Canada.
Again, they’re blasting Justin Trudeau’s government before he’s even in power.
They’re also throwing that familiar ‘us vs them’ nationalistic rhetoric; you’re with us or with Justin (and ISIS is going to destroy Canada). Pretty much.
Remember when the Conservatives said they needed to present themselves as more ‘sunny’, less fear mongering after they were defeated? It didn’t take them long to get back to their same old, pessimistic, fear mongering ways.
According to CTV, Trudeau is going to hold a second press conference after the cabinet meeting. TWO press conferences in one day... and apparently the ministers will be answering questions themselves! I'm almost crying tears of joy
The Journalists must be in a state of shock.
The Prime Minister of Canada is answering questions again. The ministers are going to be allowed to speak freely to the media.
judging solely by the name on the list, it appears our new minister of defence isn't white! i am delighted, and i can only imagine how upset my racist grandmother will be about this. this was a strategic move, i'm so happy with trudeau right now.
The defence minister is Harjit Singh Sajjan.
He’s been deployed 4 times in the military (Bosnia once and 3 times in Afghanistan), and is the first Sikh in Canadian History to Command a Canadian Army regiment.
He was also a police officer in Vancouver for 11 years (his last assignment as a Detective-Constable with the Gang Crime Unit specializing in organized crime). This cabinet posting makes so much sense I can’t even begin.
ERASE the idea that America saved lives by dropping two atomic bombs on Japan from your minds. ERASE the idea that it was anything more than a political move to scare Russia and also to satiate US curiosity as to the true ability of nuclear weapons. Nagasaki and Hiroshima were not military bases. They were heavily populated civilian cities chosen precisely bc the U.S. wanted to see how many people an atomic bomb could kill in one go. Japan was on the verge of surrendering, the U.S. literally wanted to test out their nuclear weapons on people that they deemed disposable. That is it. If those bombs were dropped by any nation other than the US veryone involved would have been tried as war criminals.
Also erase the idea that America was the hero of WWII and got into the war because they wanted so save people. They couldn’t have cared less about the victims of the Holocaust, proven by the fact that they turned away so many shiploads of refugees that went on to die at the hands of Nazis.
“the us wanted to see how many people an atomic bomb could kill in one go” oh really? Source your bullshit, asshole
i left out sources bc i figured most tumblr users know how to use google but ok
- Report produced by the U.S Strategic Bombing Group (employed by Truman) to survey the air attacks on Japan concluded that:
“Based on a detailed investigation of all the facts and supported by the testimony of the surviving Japanese leaders involved, it is the Survey’s opinion that certainly prior to 31 December 1945 and in all probability prior to 1 November 1945, Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped, even if Russia had not entered the war, and even if no invasion had been planned or contemplated.” - page 52-56
- Dwight Eisenhower future president and then Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces also said:
“I had been conscious of a feeling of depression and so I voiced to [the then Secretary of War] my grave misgivings, first on the basis of my belief that Japan was already defeated and that dropping the bomb was completely unnecessary, and secondly because I thought that our country should avoid shocking world opinion by the use of a weapon whose employment was, I thought, no longer mandatory as a measure to save American lives.” - page 380
- Admiral William Leahy, one of the highest ranking officials in the US army during WW2 wrote of the usage of the bombs:
“It is my opinion that the use of this barbarous weapon at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan. […] My own feeling was that in being the first to use it, we had adopted an ethical standard common to the barbarians of the Dark Ages. I was not taught to make war in that fashion, and wars cannot be won by destroying women and children.” - page 441
- General Douglas McArthur, another high ranking US official in the war:
“[When asked about his opinion on bombing Japan] He replied that he saw no military justification for the dropping of the bomb. The war might have ended weeks earlier, he said, if the United States had agreed, as it later did anyway, to the retention of the institution of the emperor.” - page 70-71
- On September 9, 1945 Admiral William F. Halsey commander of the Third Fleet publicly quoted as saying:
“The first atomic bomb was an unnecessary experiment… . It was a mistake to ever drop it… . [the scientists] had this toy and they wanted to try it out, so they dropped it… . It killed a lot of Japs.” - online source
- The US secretary of war, Henry Stimson, speaking to President Truman:
“I was a little fearful that before we could get ready the Air Force might have Japan so thoroughly bombed out that the new weapon [the atomic bomb] would not have a fair background to show its strength.” - diary of Henry Stimson which can be found online here
- Even those deploying the bombs questioned the decision to drop them on civilian cities:
“I thought that if we were going to drop the atomic bomb, drop it on the outskirts–say in Tokyo Bay–so that the effects would not be as devastating to the city and the people. I made this suggestion over the phone between the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings and I was told to go ahead with our targets.” - online source
- Lewis Strauss Assistant to the Navy Secretary James Forrestal on the locations of the bombings:
“I remember suggesting […] a large forest of cryptomeria trees not far from Tokyo. The cryptomeria tree is the Japanese version of our redwood… I anticipated that a bomb detonated at a suitable height above such a forest… would lay the trees out in windrows from the center of the explosion in all directions as though they were matchsticks, and, of course, set them afire in the center. […] Secretary Forrestal agreed wholeheartedly with the recommendation.” - page 145
So to recap:
A lot of American generals were against using the bomb as they felt it served an empty purpose.
Those who agreed with its usage completely disagreed with dropping them on cities.
Truman went ahead and had them detonated in two highly populated civilian cities anyway. Two cities that had remained mostly untouched by regular bombings throughout the war precisely bc of their lack of value to the Japanese war effort.
Draw your own conclusions.

@allthecanadianpolitics I thought you may like to reblog this!
We need to talk, tumblrists.
It’s true. We removed the offensive John Green post. And we removed editable reblogs because they were too often being used to smear the reputation and well-being of literally hundreds of users. The post in question is not only flagrant, it is also one in a long string of personal attacks against Mr. Green. When he discovered this post had been edited even after implementation of non editable reblogs (an issue we’re working on fixing) he was deeply hurt and fed up with the constant stream of harassment and contacted us thusly. There is no moral question over whether the post should or should not have been removed. It is clearly stated in our Terms of Service that bullying is not permitted under any circumstances. As the factual reality is that it is actually us who perform mouth to genital stimulation upon Mr. Green, it is not by the judgement of any Tumblr user whether or not the post should have been taken down. It is exclusively the decision and job of Tumblr staff to do so.
It’s that simple. The post went against our ToS, we were notified and took it down.
Ok but then why do u let terf and white supremacy blogs stay up then u fucking dumbasses

Hello everyone, now seems like a good time to finally tell you all about Pillowfort.io, a blogging platform that I (juliabaritz) and vaguestblogging have been working on for a while. Basically, we wanted to start a new blogging platform that takes our favorite features from sites we’ve used like Tumblr and LiveJournal, and create the best kind of blogging platform we could think of. Our goals for Pillowfort are to create a place where fans and creators alike can share their work, create a community of their own, and do so in a positive and safe environment.
On Pillowfort you’ll be able to run a personal blog similar to how Tumblr blogs operate, but also create communities similar to the ones that LiveJournal features, so that you can easily share content with people who share your tastes and interests. We’re also working on privacy features like blocking users, the ability to make posts rebloggable or un-rebloggable, and creating privacy lists so that your posts will only be visible to certain users. In the next few weeks, we’ll have more detailed posts about what Pillowfort is going to look like and what features we’ll be including, but above are a couple screenshots from the current state of the site so you can see what we’re going for.
We want to get the word out, so share this post if you would be interested in using a site like this so we can get an idea of how many people are interested! This site would also be a very large undertaking for us to attempt to finish ourselves, so we would love for people who would be interested in helping us with the programming to contact us and let us know that you’re interested. The app is built on Rails and currently deployed on Heroku (using Postgres for the database), so a familiarity with Rails and PSQL is greatly preferred.
Interesting.
So basically, what Dreamwidth is to LJ, you’re hoping Pillowfort will be to Tumblr?
SIGN ME THE FUCK UP.
I’ll keep an eye on this.
'No more are we going to turn our backs. No more are we going to be silent about the violence.'
People gathered on Parliament Hill today in a solemn ceremony to remember missing, murdered and abused aboriginal women and children.
In a symbolic movement that’s crossing the country, supporters laid dozens of red dresses on the steps leading to the Peace Tower in a show of solidarity with the fight for justice for the victims.
“No more are we going to turn our backs,” said Claudette Commanda, a Kitigan Zibi band councillor and teacher at the University of Ottawa. “No more are we going to be silent about the violence.”
I went in not knowing anything about these “four temperaments,” but now I’ve gotta say, I am indeed very melancholic, in like every way, (besides the non-aggressive part. I’ve I’m pissed I will fight, lmao.) Dear lord.
