Serendipity (2001) dir. Peter Chelsom
Just realised I rewatched Serendipity 25 years after it's release
Serendipity (2001)
John Cusack as Jonathan Trager & Kate Beckinsale as Sara Thomas
They say that once in a lifetime, someone comes along whom you’re absolutely meant to be with and everything feels great, stars are aligned, body and spirit are in balance.
Serendipity 2001
I believe in the reality of absent things. If something isn't here, it must be somewhere else. Fate: how the absent thing remains lost. Serendipity: how the absent thing returns. Fiction: how we make it up. Poetry: how we wait for it.
— Daniel Poppick, from the "Author's Note" in "The Copywriter: A Novel" (Scribner, February 3, 2026)
Oh and she'd forgotten completely her belief in fate even advertising against it and he'd become a convert and advocate for it, and both their journeys searching for one another taught their best friends to believe.
I suspect each aligned so deeply they both had fly out of town to meet again.
It was so great watching this again.
Serendipity (2001) dir. Peter Chelsom
Words by Mary Oliver engraved in rock
I just rewatched Serendipity (2001) and two things happened that are serendipitous: one, in one of the earliest scenes there's a poster above a subway tunnel staircase that reads Six degrees of separation by John BlaBlaBla (Guadalupe I think?) and what strikes me there is that I found a story on six degrees of separation which is a concept that states anyone you want to meet you can through a chain of six people on earth. Which proved true for me because I can't place it whole now but that's how I found the shelter, through a group of people who knew each other that I knew. Which is where I found the story in a book that mostly irritated me, in a library set in a children's learning room. Which is also where I read that book on math and it's history and it's relevance and got the idea to do Paper Worlds whole time I'm thinking idk what I'm going to call it and then I saw "paper worlds" twice in that book and called it Paper Worlds. Perhaps I'll read it again, maybe this time to the end.
The second thing, I had some popcorn seeds and decided to make some salty popcorn because me time and it's a movie night so I did in the microwave. I just read the guy who worked on the invention of microwave oven technology discovered that a tube he'd worked on had melted a chocolate bar in his pocket. It's how penicillin and sticky notes came to be as well.
I find myself remembering the book the alchemist where in it's said that God leaves us omens on our paths.
Instead of the housing I'd hoped to find last year in August, instead I found deep belonging and the capacity for it at the shelter. I hadn't meant to make friends at that time of my life but did, with many including two girls from Rwanda soon to be resettled in Canada.
On Serendipity, it seems to be marked by two things: chance and sagacity, which seems to mean the ability to believe every clue leads somewhere.
I also just think it's so interesting the stops and starts in the journeys of both Sarah and Jonathan as they looked for each other. Every obstacle.
Planning a trip to Lamu for mid April this year!!!!
WENT!!
I've liked so many strangers' posts on Instagram who attended the wedding
Don't even know who you are, oh my god
Proud sourdough starter mommy btw¡!
All I know, from 16 hours ago, is I know something now, I know something now, I didn't before.
I believe love exists and love wants this known and celebrated and for us to have faith about in how it aligned for Tay and Trav
Taylor just got married. I feel like I'm living in a dream. Reality's script flipped.
Congratulations Tay and Trav x
I didn't know this existed
Today's my first day at my dream art studio 💝
I didn't tell anyone thatbon Sunday I tried out for Miss Universe Kenya and was literally the first to be eliminated 😭😂
It doesn't get clearer than that
So, I went to my studio cause it was in the area and I felt low
I cleaned a bit, felt better
Packed yesterday, today's the day
Feeling here.
///
On the Uber near the highway on the way now
Told my dad about it 😲
I'm proud of myself for getting here, waking up, getting ready all of it 💓
I feel really supported
And I'm hitting the ground running
Good morning me, good morning studio 🌅
It's a bit cloudy
I'm writing sentences. Creating space within myself to allow what's happening with me to happen.
Within.
I slept at like two yesterday.
Glad I left the house or I'd have to sit through so much unwanted noise and company.
My first thought today was there's people already at work at the building behind us and we're just waking. Chill I need to hit the ground running a lot more now.
Like I can be passionate about that.
I did my something creative yesterday, a sketch of a frog I sent Hamish who's my Deep Dive buddy!
He said well done :)
In Westlands now
I feel divinely supported like, I needed space God is God. And God is good.
On waiyaki way
Do these count as morning pages
Looking forward to the lighting in my studio
The noons and afternoons spent in the studio
Knowing hey, today I'm going to the studio
Yoh, I told someone I'm based in spring valley and they said I'm close by I'll come:)
Never thought I'd be in an Uber to my studio
How great is God? My God!!!
Passing Sarit now
Got to town at nine it's twenty past now
I'm planning maybe I do a sketch first then I start the studies. Idk?
That's the idea
Spoke to an artist who's work I've seen online and in person before she's prepping for a show too and she mentioned being time constrained and in the studio a lot.
Yoh there's tuktuks on the road
Two it's not the first I've seen them here
I'm a phenomenal artist. I'm hardworking. I'm creative and I listen to my creativity.
The song somebody by bee thee artist is in my mind. Thinking of doing a dancing princesses floor in a few weeks at the studio. It's red oxide so that's a challenge.
I'll keep you posted:)))
a concept: heavy rainfall when you’re tucked up in bed. like if u agree.
Repost to claim tonight! Added benefit: you're dead asleep:))
