Ok so to understand what gives lunette the heavy hitting factor as a ship is to see that there is a whole other level of their relationship that I think doesn’t get brought up often enough, and it’s that owlette isn’t just a potential crush, but a friend. Like owlette’s offerings of friendship are inextricable from why luna would have a crush on her. Imagine you’re the loneliest girl in the world and anything you’ve ever had you have had to steal yourself, but here comes this girl who gives you everything you’ve never had before like it’s nothing. Luna’s first present—even before the Christmas episode—is owlette’s giving owl. She was the one who hosted luna’s first sleepover, she holds her hand, gives her hugs, throws out sentences like, maybe one day we could be best friends. Any romantic yearning I imagine is so incredibly tangled up in the yearning for a friend. She could give you the thing that finally fills the hollow aching in your chest.
