This is a PSA to remind you that it’s okay to tell men when they’re jokes aren’t funny. Some of them need to know
Went and saw Project Hail Mary in theaters and it was great! What was not so great is seeing the MGM Roaring Lion logo and underneath it says “An Amazon Company” 🙃
Rewatching Stranger Things with my boyfriend and noticed that Vecna’s suit looks like the Grinch without its fur and now I can’t unsee it
stained glass snoopy at redwood empire ice arena, 2007.
New season of Deadloch dropped and I am hooked 🐊
Today I saw a young guy wear a shirt that said “JESUS WON” in American flag font. And I looked at it like “what did Jesus win? The World Series? An Oscar? Perfect Attendance Award?” Would Jesus think this is tacky?
I had an interaction with a male patron today who was on a video conference full blast in the quiet study area. He was extremely rude to me when I offered to put him in a study room, like went out of his way to be rude. Three patrons had already asked him to be quiet, including a woman to whom he said “shut your mouth”. And when I finally managed to put him in a study room, he tried to slam the door on me. But when my director, who’s a 6”3 dude, went to talk to him, the guy was sweet as pie and kissed his ass. It just seems like in the last couple months a lot of incidences and bad patron behavior have involved men and I kinda wonder if there’s some kind of misogyny involved, seeing as librarianship is a mostly female industry. Does the fact that we’re a public service makes them think they can get away with how they treat us?
Just Connecticut Things:
Wondering how much money Brook Goff makes in order to pay for all those billboards AND two Super Bowl commercials
According to my boyfriend, the female version of mansplaining is called “she-laborate”
I’m so sad Avril from Movie Bitches passed away. There were so many movies I wanted her and Andrew to review 😔
Signs that I am old: sitting at an outdoor roof-top bar and thinking “this place would be great if they had tea”
There’s no class in library school that prepares you for when a regular patron dies, especially when it’s a young mom
What is the best episode of Mad Men and why is it “Guy Walks into an Advertising Agency”?
I accidentally bought an AI-written book for the library’s collection. Take a shot every time you see the word “presentation”.
I feel like tumblr should be bigger fans of The Blues Brothers. It's a movie that has everything we value as a community. Attention and respect to pioneering black musicians, open hostility to nazis, open defiance to police, Carrie Fisher with a rocket launcher and flamethrower, a soundtrack that goes hard as hell, John Belushi so blasted on cocaine that he continues to do somersaults despite having a broken ankle. It's got it all!
Frank Oz is the jail's discharge clerk when Belushi gets out of jail at the beginning.
Not getting into ending spoilers but Steven Spielberg plays a character who is pivotal to the climax of the film.
Ray Charles fires a warning shot from a pistol at a shoplifter.
They did location filming in a mall that had closed the previous year in 1978. The production fucked that mall up so bad that it remained abandoned until it was finally demolished in 2012.
A total of 60 cop cars are fucking destroyed in the movie.
It’s got Aretha Franklin as a sarcastic diner owner with her own back-up dancers. Chaka Khan is a soloist in the choir. And the whole scene set to Cab Calloway’s Minnie the Moocher is so spectacular I won’t ruin it for you.
