Today I was trying to buy underwear when a store associate complemented my dress. Thank you ma'am, I bought it here three years ago
A little music on a Monday night
White people should be banned from adopting transracially.
Kenya has approved an indefinite ban on adoption by foreigners. This needs to spread like wildfire…White people using Black and Brown children as disposable pretentious props has got to stop.
some facts to go with this post:
the young girl who died is called Hana Williams, her adoptive parents were Christians who adopted seven children and raised them with extremely hard punishments based on a Christian child raising book.
Hana died after being denied food and being shut out in the yard as a punishment.
This isn’t just about “white people”, it’s about white Christian Americans. An important distinction to make in this case.
Also important: The Kenyan adoption ban was in response to human trafficking, and not connected to problems in transracial adoption cases.
last comment is important
This isn't about "Christan Americans" either. So many children I know are adopted by these people and are thriving beautifully. This isn't about a stereotype. One family gets to decide the identity of everyone? I thought that's what we were fighting against. I don't know about you, but I'd rather children find families and homes over an entire group of people being banned from adoption because of the actions of one family.

We went downtown today to take some pictures. We also watched a couple on Carew Tower get engaged, which was pretty amazing.

TO SAVE A LIFE
this was really helpful!Â
the girl in the room next to mine has listened to hello by adele 17 times in a row now. is she okay :(
our neighbor played it for six hours on repeat. he is not okay.
I will forever use these
today my anthro professor said something kindof really beautiful:
“you all have a little bit of ‘I want to save the world’ in you, that’s why you’re here, in college. I want you to know that it’s okay if you only save one person, and it’s okay if that person is you”
I feel like a few people I know could stand to read this.
Strong words to use on a Resume
If you have ever had to write a resume for work or for an application, then you know the hardest part is figuring out what type of words to use that sound professional and and intelligent.
Example: If an application asks you if you have any relevant experience for a job at a day care center and you have experience, like you have babysat children. You would look at the words in the columns to see what words you should use that will help your resume stand out. You might put down “Have supervised and attended to children on a regular basis.”
I hope this is helpful to you.
Now this is a great resume list of action words. I love that it’s broken down by types of jobs. Saving for future use.
If everything in the universe suddenly got 100 times bigger, at the exact same time, there’d be no way of noticing.
Actually, light would still travel at the same rate, so if all of the sudden light was taking 100 times longer to get from one place to another, even though it's still really fast, it's a big enough difference science would figure it out pretty fast. Pretty interesting concept though.
So awesome to see the cast of Paper Towns today!! You guys are lovely. DFTBA @fishingboatproceeds
tips for college freshmen
- Whatever your high school teachers have told you about college is probably incorrect.
- You will get sick in the first couple of weeks because your body has never had to live with 400 other people and deal with all their germs. Always have tissues and chapstick on hand (especially in your backpack)
- Save the syllabus the teacher gives you on the first day. It will have all important due dates and criteria in it
- Don’t buy the book until you know you need it. Textbooks are hella expensive and I only used about a third of the ones I bought my freshmen year (be careful though cause the bookstore can run out)
- Check amazon & other sites for competitive textbook prices
- If you’re lost, ask someone for directions. They won’t care, especially if it’s the first few weeks
- Talk to your teachers. Sit in the front row. It’s almost always a good thing if the teacher knows who you are. Make connections with the ones that stand out to you because you will need them in the future (i.e. grad applications or other recommendations)
- When given an assignment, read it and do what it is asking. Don’t do more. Just do what they ask you to do. (this one is coming from my mom who teaches freshmen and every year someone tries to go above and beyond but ends up not answering the original question)
- STAIN STICK/ TIDE TO-GO IS A NECESSITY
- 8am classes suck. Don’t take a class that early unless you have to. You will regret it.
- Try to schedule your classes back to back but don’t forget to factor in some time to eat
- Get a planner or calendar of some kind so that you can see just how much time you have to write that paper
- Freshmen always travel in packs. That’s how we know you’re a freshman. If you don’t want to get moo’d at (because you move like cattle), don’t travel in a huge pack of people
- You don’t have to be best friends with your roommate. You may not even get along. But you do have to live together. Be patient. Talk to them. C.o.m.m.u.n.i.c.a.t.e.
- Don’t be afraid to eat alone.
- Separate your darks from your lights when doing laundry and never never never wash anything in hot water unless you want it to shrink and wrinkle.
- Unless you’re in a science course you probably won’t have to bring the book to class. You may never even open the book. See tip #2
- Go to a frat party at least once (if your school has frats). You might love it; you’ll probably hate it. Either way it will definitely be an experience.
- Don’t drink jungle juice unless you saw the person make it. Never accept an opened can of beer. Keep track of your cup. Roofies are real and very dangerous. Always have a friend to walk home with.
- Say hi. Just say hello to people. It’s so easy to make friends in the beginning because everyone else is just as scared and new as you are
College is a blast. Best four years of your life and it flies by compared to high school. Have fun. Be safe. Make good choices!
Dealoz.com shows you how much a book costs or sells for on almost every site. Amazing website for finding the lowest priced book because sometimed one is cheaper of chegg while another is cheaper on amazon (also shows shipping prices so you can factor that in)
And renting books is a really great idea when you can
