Technically, the original experiment was to add the meta gene to artificial humans and this is how it turned out.
The woman who made him and his brother ran out of the DNA samples for both of them and had to improvise using an animal's dna (aka: Used a bat's DNA to fill the gaps, which is why he has a couple of bat abilities)
