You always believed in me, man, even when I didnât believe in myself.
The Coca cola company responding to complaints in 1891
finally some good fucking historical accuracy
I know this is supposed to be funny, but does it horrify anyone else that social media is being used by employers to monitor how happy we are to be slaves to capitalism and if we arenât 1000% enthusiastic about having to work, youâre immediately terminated? He says âGood luck with your no money, no job lifeâ but the implication is pretty clearââGood luck starving to death because you didnât live to serve me/my companyâÂ
So if you express a feeling about your job/working/capitalism on your own social media space that doesnât please your employers, youâre punished.
Holy fuck
This is some dystopian shit right here
This is actually illegal in the US, by the way. Thereâs a thing called the National Labor Relations Act that protects your right to complain about your job (the reasoning being if you canât complain you canât find other employees with similar complaints to start a union with).
If this happens to you, you should file a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board. Source: http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2013/01/complaining_about_your_job_on_facebook_the_national_labor_relations_board.html

you canât force someone to be emotionally vulnerable with you. itâs either they feel comfortable having that kind of intimacy with you, or they donât.Â
nah I think we should really stop glorifying cigarettes
you sound boring.
You sound like youâve never had the scent of cigarette smoke ingrained in your clothes to the point where people in middle school thought you smoked at eleven because your parents couldnât be bothered to go outside. You sound like youâve never had your mother flick cigarette ashes out of the car window and have them fly into your face. You sound like youâve never been kept up at night by the sound of your dad hacking up a lung because he has to get up for his midnight smoke. You sound like youâve never had to run into a convenience store to get your mother cigarettes as soon as you turned eighteen and cringed at touching the box because you know theyâre not only killers but government sanctioned killers because they can not only tax the shit out of them but ensure people buy more at the cost of young lungs and a once beautiful home now plagued with the smell of smoke and ash. You sound like youâve never had a great grandmother who stopped smoking 30 years before her death who still got lung cancer and subsequently died. You sound like a Fucking ignoramus. Smoking isnât Fucking cool, it isnât fun to glorify, itâs disgusting and makes not only you but your children smell bad. Makes not only you but your children cough, get cancer, get sick.
You sound like a Fucking moron. Smoking isnât cool. Grow the Fuck up.
No, you grow the fuck up. Thereâs mountains of constant judgment when it comes to smoking. How about you leave people alone and let them do what they want with their bodies.
There is a REASON. Itâs not just their bodies theyâre fucking. Itâs never just their bodies with something fucking airborne. Especially when you have CHILDREN AND PETS.
My grandfather smoked in his house decades ago. We moved in. We started working on it. After just one day of having the AC off so it could be worked on, I could no longer stay in the house because the smell was coming out of the walls so strongly and triggering my asthma to the point where I couldnât breathe. My grandfather is dead and his smoking still managed to effect me that negativity. It is not just their body.
My aunt took up smoking in secret as a coping method for her depression. My cousin found out and she was so scared for her momâs health that she hid the cigarettes. But when my aunt noticed they were missing, do you think she had a calm conversation about the whole thing with my cousin? Nope. She stormed into her room in such a rage, my cousin was too scared to even argue. She just gave the cigarettes back and prayed for her mom to leave the room. There was no explanation for why she took up smoking, for why she was trying to hide it, no reassurance for her worried daughter, not even a question as to why my cousin took them⌠there was just addiction-fueled anger. Directed at a child who had no control over her environment.
And then thereâs my own mother, who has never taken up smoking, but who grew up with two chain-smoking parents. My mom who has permanent lung and throat damage from a lifetime of breathing in smoke that she didnât ask for. My mom who now takes daily medication so her throat doesnât ache.
But, tell me again how smoking only affects your body?
I grew up breathing not only my step-dadâs cigarette smoke, but all his friends as theyâd frequently hang out in the living room together creating a cloud of smoke that permeated the whole house. I got asthma at 10. I found a growth in my left lung at 30. I now have 1 lung. 1 lung and Iâm still asthmatic. Fuck people who smoke around children.
If you canât agree with this, then fucking unfollow the shit out of me. Too many people in my family have died. My grandfather lost his wife to Lung Cancer. He still smokes though. And my dad who stopped cold turkey when my oldest brother was born and went through hell to make sure his first kid wouldnât have to also. But did it help? No. Because his mom didnât care that she had a newborn inhaling her goddamned secondhand smoke. Donât you dare say it only affects the smoker. Donât you dare.
Points up. Same.
As a child who grew up around smokers. ALL OF THIS IS RELEVANT!
Both parents smoked. Both died of heart/lung problems directly related to smoking. I remember very well my mom sitting all of us down and begging us not to smoke, ever, because she knew how bad it was for us and how hard it was to quit. This was YEARS before second hand smoke research was a thing. I used to get sick every single winter until I was 20 and left home. Then, wow, I discovered I wasnât getting sick nearly so often anymore. Cigarettes are not like alcohol - that at least you keep to yourself (well, most do, some âŚ. not so much). Cigarette smoke gets everywhere and affects everyone it comes in contact with. Itâs like riding a motorcycle without a helmetâyes, you have the right to screw up your own life if something goes wrong, but you do NOT have the right to screw up the lives of anyone who cares about you.
My paternal grandmother died this past Monday from lung cancer. One week after diagnosis. My father expresses grief through retail therapy and he just bought $2k worth of games and electronics earlier today. It impacts more than just you.
My birth mom smoked at least a pack a day when I was growing up and despite 2 kids, many medical problems including a trachea tube and both of said kids having some form of asthma (I have sports induced my brother has mild bronchial asthma) she still smokes.
this fucking upsets me so badly you donât even know
my parents smoke in our house, and everytime i tell them not to they tell me itâs fine or to get over it. they smoke in the car, bring their cigarettes in my room, even though they said theyâd start smoking on the balcony. they never fucking do it.
each morning, iâd come to school reeking of smoke, my classmates started accusing me of smoking. even in elementary, a teacher pulled me aside and asked me if my parents had been smoking. when i responded with yes, she said to tell them to stop.
people in your environment notice when you smell of smoke. especially people who are around you frequently. they remember it, and may think you smoke. some people may think itâs cool, some are disgusted by it, and they have the RIGHT to be- because cigarettes harm your body. whether itâs a coping mechanism or something- it harms you, it harms you and others around you.
the warnings on the packagings, the PSAs- they donât fucking shit on you, they donât make stuff up. they mean it.
if you smoke, fine, i canât stop you. but donât smoke around your kids or others. smoke outside, do it in private.
âdonât make me feel bad for doing what i want with my body!â iâm not doing that. iâm making you feel bad for fucking up the lives of the people around you.
