I'm putting myself on a limb here. Maybe it's just me. But if there's anyone who'll understand, it's tumblr and I need to share this. But THIS... this fucking song. Every time I hear it lately, I think of Crosshair. And I knew I was a CT-9904 girlie but DAMN 🥵 It's...it's not just me, right?? OH MY GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME
Hunter: You really do not want to make me angry.
Bad Guy: Oh, really?
Crosshair: Really. Believe me, you don't.
Wrecker: Please just surrender or let one of us punch you before you meet somebody you don't want to.
Tech: Someone who usually leaves a trail of blood we do not have the time to clean up right now. Also, I am out of rabies shots.
Bad Guy: You...You'd have to give me a rabies shot?
Tech: Of course not. You'll be dead -- the rabies shot is for Hunter.
Wrecker: We thought he got it one time from biting a Weequay.
Bad Guy: What?!
Crosshair: Turns out, he was just foaming at the mouth because the Weequay tasted so bad.
Bad Guy:
Crosshair: So can you please just fall down or something? We can only hold him back for so long.
In the four episodes we got of the Batcher in TCW, we see Hunter growl and grunt at people (primarily Rex for some reason) as a kind of attempt at communication, he SNIFFS DIRT to track things, and he honestly kind of goes crazy with his knives in the fight scenes. I think this confirms or at least indicates that in his young gun, wild thing, commando TCW era Hunter was feral, or at least semi-feral.
What I'm saying is that I love feral Hunter. And if I must write the feral Hunter content I want, so be it -- but you cannot convince me this man did not go absolutely batcrap insane on a few bad guys early on in his deployment. I'm sure Cody had to preface a few conversations with "Hey, I know I recommended these guys but...just keep an eye on the shaggy one, y'know? No sudden movements or blinking red lights or...you know what, treat him like a pissed off Cane Corso while you're in combat. If you're on downtime, treat him like a not pissed Cane Corso, and make sure his handlers give permission before you try to be friends."
Rex doesn't get this memo because Cody thought it would be funny to let him figure it out on his own, which takes about five days and a few near-death experiences.
When Echo joins the Batch he figured it out in about two hours because someone said something mean about his prosthetics. The next thing he knew, Tech and Wrecker were appealing to Hunter's better nature and Crosshair was reminding the sergeant not to use his teeth as a murder weapon this time because "That's what knives are for."

Lesser-known steps of the writing process:
Finding all the paragraphs where you used some hyper-specific word more than once
Rearranging paragraphs that you swear you wrote in the right order but turned out to be totally backwards
Going for a walk, coming up with the perfect line, and forgetting it as soon as you get home and open your laptop
Creating a separate document where you can dump all of those nice sentences that no longer fit in anywhere
Waking up in a cold sweat because so-and-so was supposed to be barefoot but never actually took his shoes off
I'm so glad I'm not the only writer that has a document of "darlings" , that are just too good to delete permanently but don't work in the piece.
Rewatching The Bad Batch for the millionth time, and on watching The Outpost, it really (finally) hit me that part of the reason Crosshair bonds with Mayday is because of how Mayday reminds him of Hunter.
Or at least, Mayday reminded *me* of Hunter (while still being a distinct character of his own - good writing, that) and I can see how Crosshair sees echoes of his old squad in Mayday.
The death of Mayday might as well have been the death of Hunter, on a subconscious level, I think.
Of course, that's not the only factor that causes Crosshair to finally "wake up", but the resemblance struck me in a way it hadn't on previous watchings.

Do other writers ever get this like, hyper-specific dialogue exchange drop into their brains and you know exactly where these character are standing and what they’re doing and how they’re saying these words but that’s all you get. You don’t have much other context and this specific moment that exists only at this time in your headspace??

A little vignette of emotional torture for Hunter. Why? Because it was in my brain, that's why. (Honestly, I was just thinking about how each of the group would handle Tech's loss and the events of the S2 finale, and how Hunter never really ever catches a break)
Somehow I'm still not emotionally "over" the end S2 Why am I like this?? Also how the hell do people post fics/links to A03 and get it to look nice???
So... I can understand those who take the stance of wanting Tech to "stay dead" because they dislike the "presumed death" trope. I don't agree with this stance myself, but I understand it.
When I come across anything along the lines of "Tech's sacrifice needs to mean something, it will lose its impact if he comes back," though, I can hear Mayday's voice in my mind saying a paraphrased version of one of his notable quotes: "Remind me not to [sacrifice myself] on your watch." Because heaven forbid the outcome of my sacrifice involves me surviving instead of dying properly 😅🙄🤨
