Hey so! I know I like never told anyone but I am making a mspfa comic and I was hoping to spread the word!

Its called Sgrub: Backup File and its got 30 pages so far!

The basic premise is that Alternia is experiencing several apocalyptic events for unknown reasons, so when the main character discovers a strange pair of files on their husktop they think they've found an escape hatch. They and their friends think they can rebuild society in their image, but things are hardly ever as simple as they seem.

Any necessary trigger warnings are included in a text file linked on the first page. I don't wanna spoil too much!

ERROR: Sgrub.ath has detected one or more save files are corrupted. Would you like to continue from a backup file?

I'm super excited to have it out there now! Its been kinda stewing in a google doc for forever now.

yknow. i really appreciate ryan gosling's commitment to keeping the canon Grace reaction of just fucking crying the entire time. it's in character, and it's like, an extremely realistic reaction to the situation at hand. But. from most actor's ive heard (both irl friends and interviews from professionals) have bemoaned crying scenes in film, because it can be very draining and give you a splitting headache to do multiple takes etc etc. So they could have dialed it back and saved the tears for the more poignant moments. but no. they clearly went fuck it, we're committing. Grace is a Crier. here. have him crying in happiness, sadness, despair, terror, relief, disbelief, overwhelming joy. Have some heaving sobs. have some single tears. oohhh this man is gonna Cry about it.

Flipping this on its head for platonic Bloodymary/Simon character dynamic purposes:

Emotionally stunted, immature Simon, who has toxic views on self-expression due to Eden's Cult believing that individuality is a sin.

Simon, on the brink of sobbing, will always try to hide it, even going so far as to just straight up leave to isolate and deal on his own (unless he's in an active anger outburst episode, in which case, EVERYBODY'S gonna know)

Simon acting awkward and unsure of how to comfort others, because that was never in his job description

"Uh... want a drink or something?" <- His first reaction to emotional distress is usually to do something risky or get inebriated, so he offers what he can to others

Simon feeling like he has to Fix The Problem when Grace cries, thinking there's some kind of serious emergency each time, when really Grace is just Like That, and it's normal

Simon not understanding why it's normal to cry

"There's something wrong with me and I need to get rid of it" vs "hey actually, that's Fundamentally Bad for your Mental Health"

"My body works and that means I'm okay" vs "your brain is an organ and you're actively neglecting it"

Grace and Simon actively challenging each other's beliefs on toxic male expression and trauma, because one had to be a mandated reporter for years (school teacher) and the other was raised in the worst case scenario with zero help.
