It's nuts how common it is to not allow children to be angry, even (especially) in households where adults are angry all the time. As a child I knew my own anger was unacceptable--not just expressing it outwardly but feeling it at all. So now as an adult my immediate reaction to my own anger is often to feel guilt instead of like. Noticing when someone is being rude or unfair or my boundaries are being violated or whatever. fucked up.
also I don't think parents "these days" are uniquely terrible, I just think neglect is showing up in new ways as technology progresses. today's ipad kid would've been wandering around in a ditch alone all day and night before. parents not wanting to have to deal with children is not a new phenomenon.
Anonymously tell me something you think about me 💭

Conditions in the jail have reportedly been deteriorating for years.
This is my hometown – Birmingham, Alabama. I ache to be with my community, no matter how far removed I am from it now.
She's lost to the injustice system, she's lost to the racist, antiblack, transmisogynistic empire we inhabit and that many, many people benefit from upholding.
I'm so sorry Peaches. You deserved to live, and be loved by everyone who so clearly loved you. I hope you're listening to Beyoncé, or something even better tonight.
Pride is more than a celebration, remembering a beloved community member we lost, and more, inside the issue:
This loss is not accidental. It is a tragic reminder of the failures within the carceral system. The lack of adequate mental health resources, combined with negligence and systemic shortcomings in our system, continues to cost lives.
Far too many people are dying at the hands of systems that cause harm rather than healing. Incarceration should never lead to dehumanization. Peaches was a human being. She deserved dignity, respect, compassion, and access to the care she needed.
As we mourn her loss, we also honor her life. Let Peaches’ legacy be a call to action. We must continue advocating for a transformation of our systems of incarceration and for better responses to individuals living with severe mental illness. No one should be forgotten, neglected, or stripped of their humanity. Rest peacefully, Peaches. Your life mattered, your presence was felt, and your memory will forever remain with us.
- TAKE Resource Center
I’ve met peaches... She should still be alive.
Earlier this week, active members of our community attended a city council meeting to read poems & voice frustration with the conditions of Birmingham city jail.
While attempting to invoke the mayor Randall Woodfin to come to city hall to hear these concerns, the mayor instead sent 4 Birmingham police officers who arrested, assaulted and hospitalized one of the people making their voice heard. Last I heard from one of my friends, they’re still in the hospital.
TAKE resource center is the only trans focused resource center in the city and focuses especially giving , often life saving, assistance our Black trans siblings.
Please donate to them to so they can continue doing the incredible work they’re doing

So I was scrolling and saw this image in an article about the European heat wave,
And was like, uh, are you missing something there, buddy? Like all that red in northern Africa? Because that's a lot of red.
And I was going to give them the benefit of doubt, since I don't know much about the climate in Northern Africa, aside from Morroco and Egypt, which seem like really hot places, so you know, maybe it's normal there?
But nope, that's not the case:
Africa is struggling with heat waves and many countries on the continent lack the resources rich economies have to deal with rising temperat
Some selections from the article:
"The region has been experiencing some of the most intense heat waves in recent years, but in many cases they’ve been under-reported due to misconceptions about Africans’ ability to withstand them.
“Africa is seen as a sunny and hot continent,” said Amadou Thierno Gaye, a research scientist and professor at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. “People think we are used to heat, but we are having high temperatures for a longer duration. Nobody is used to this.”
"The Sahel, for instance, has been heating at a faster pace than the global average despite being hot already. Burkina Faso and Mali, both in West Africa’s Sahel, are among countries that are set to become almost uninhabitable by 2080, if the world continues on its current trajectory, a UK university study found. Its people are especially vulnerable due to shrinking resources, such as water, and poor amenities, and a dearth of trees and parks means there are few options for places to cool off."
Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. Thousands of Indians are dying every day from the heat, it's 45+ degrees in multiple areas, the government couldn't give two fucks, we're getting severe warnings and red alerts, and not a soul outside of South Asia is speaking about it because why would you ever care about brown people
please keep talking about how Becky from Maryland doesn't like the rising gas prices. It's clearly the more pressing issue.
USA folks, that is a consistent temperature range hitting 113°. Death Valley temperatures. In Banda, it hovered between 116°-118° (47°-48° C) for a week straight.
This has been happening all month with little to no international media attention. Here are a few organizations you can check out for resources or to support:

I am Mohammed, I live in the northern besieged Gaza Strip, I am 21 years old, I have always tried to create a beautiful future for myself in which I achieve all my wishes. I had ambitions and dreams, but they evaporated because of the war, but I still want to achieve them despite the siege. During the war, I lost many things, including my university, my dreams, my job, and some friends. Despite that, I still want to achieve my dreams and ambitions. I want to rebuild my life again, so please help me in that and rebuild my life. Therefore,
please donate as much as you can because that helps me a lot. If you cannot donate, tell people about my suffering.
My name is Mohammed, I live in a neighborhood in Shujaiyya, an area in the north of Gaza. I am 21 years old , the eldest among my siblings.

We investigated how they charge more for less.
So, we now know on a direct statistical level that Dollar General is literally making the Vimes Boots Theory of Economic Unfairness into a part of its core business model.
Sweet jesus…
True, the chain pays its workers industry-low wages in under-staffed stores that can be magnets for armed burglary. And yes, Dollar Store management targets economically struggling communities, focusing on customers who make less than $40,000 a year and visit the store multiple times a week. “The economy is continuing to create more of our core customer,” CEO Todd Vasos said in 2018.
But to those working class consumers, Dollar General promises to deliver “everyday low prices.”
In reality, without knowing it, customers are often paying Whole Foods prices for dollar store groceries.
A More Perfect Union investigation reveals that Dollar General charges premium prices across a range of staple goods—52% more per pound for chicken breasts than its cheapest competitor, for instance—but masks the high cost from consumers by stocking smaller pack sizes.
In other words, Dollar General often charges more for less. It offers low absolute prices for national brands, but in smaller pack sizes than other stores, in order to push per-unit costs higher.
The comments under this post will make you so tired. Poor people do not buy smaller portions because they cant do unit price math. They do it because the nearest aldis is a 40 minute bus ride or a 2 hour bus ride or a 3 hour car ride away instead of a 10 min walk away and they do it because they need to make a grocery budget for one or two or four people fit into $200 or $100 or however many increasingly small number of SNAP dollars or leftover dollars. And if youre already at the dollar general, you might as well buy a broom or a shirt or whatever else even if its a little too much, especially if you just got kicked out of your last place or rats ate your big bag of rice or your last good shirt.
Can you imagine it for a moment. I dont care if “you are poor too and you would never be so stupid” or “you managed to save up for that Costco card.” There will always be someone else just a little too tired and a little too hungry and a little too kicked around to ever do that. I promise they exist, so can you stop assuming everyone is you and imagine being that person for a single goddamned moment.
There's worse to come, folks. Strap in and stay strapped.
