Let's raise children who wont have to recover from their childhoods
Happy emptiness
My childhood was enveloped in the smell of salt-water. In the summer, sea spray from the crashing waves was caught up in the wind and carried to the side of my house, washing the building in a salty-white crust and a perfume that drew me to the outdoors. I would wake up early most days, and smell the ocean breeze wafting through my window, the aroma enticing my tired body to fumble out of bed, and guiding my feet as I hurriedly slipped on a pair of flip-flops. These mornings I explored the ocean for hours, discovering just a few of the countless secrets that the ocean holds. I spent my time humming to miniscule snails, hoping to draw them from the safety of their beady black shells. I sang to the waves, and the wind, and the sand, captivated by the myriad of glimmers created in the refraction of light that danced on top of the water. It was on these mornings that I developed a consuming curiosity in both the physical world, and the boundless abstract possibility of the human mind. On these mornings, I dug my feed deep in to the sand at the edge of the ocean, and looked to see where the waves met the sky, I sent my mind there, to the edge of the world, and discovered limitlessness.

I did something good for you just now. Before the sun goes down tonight, I want you to pass it on.

Obviously it’s a shit name. But we had these record company people saying things like ‘Oh, we like what you’re doing but you’ll have to change that name.’ So we had to keep it just to spite them
-Alex Turner, on the band’s name (Vice, 2006)
I was the kind of child who’d always looked for fairies dancing on the grass. I wanted to believe in witches, wizards, ogres, giants and enchanted spells. I didn’t want all of the magic taken out of the world by scientific explanation.
