I’ve recently watched the episode, and while I do see they were really pushing the romance part this time, they also didn’t just drop it on you. They’ve been building up to it. Here are Ashi’s feelings to Jack in each episode so far.

Episodes 1-3: I hate you and want to kill you.

Episode 4: I still hate you but I see you are capable of kindness that my mother rejected, so I’ll give you a chance.

Episode 5: I’m not going to try and kill you. I want you to prove to me that what you’re saying about Aku and yourself is true. I’ll also help you save innocent children.

Episode 6: I fear something bad happened to you, so I’ll try and find you and help you if it has. I’ve also seen all the good you’ve done for people over the last 50+ years.

Episode 7: I’ll protect you against entire armies while you get your sword back.

Episode 8: Romance.

So for a 10 episode season, I feel like they’ve actually developed it as naturally as they could. As for the age gap thing, don’t Marceline/PB from Adventure Time have a bigger age gap, yet tumblr eats it up like candy? I get the feeling that if Samurai Jack found himself a male Ashi instead, tumblr would be cheering from the rafters.

Why do people on this hell site tend to throw the absolutely most DANGEROUS labels around so carelessly????

Because labels like ‘pedophile’, ‘Nazi’, and [insert identify of the day]-phobe will both cause others to join in on the accuser’s crusade while simultaneously forcing the accused on the defensive, preventing them from pointing out any flaws in the accuser’s argument.
