Your day began with a phone call, one that made your heart turn to cherry blossom petals. Nothing more than a good morning call from Otoya… and a shy request that you meet him outside the agency today, just to spend a little extra time together before work.
The dawn is fragile on this quiet morning, thin like rose petal jam smeared over a slice of sweet, white bread. Far above those gossamer strands of sunlight beaming across the city rooftops, there are the palest wisps of clouds, quickly shifting from oranges, pinks, and purples to white as the time passes. You’re leaning your head back to peer up into the endless, vast blueness of the sky as it grows brighter overhead when suddenly, you overbalance and nearly fall backward.
“Careful!” A muffled but cheery voice cries out. A pair of warm, sturdy arms slide around you from behind, awkwardly sliding under your arms to help steady you on your feet again. You turn around, still a little rattled from your near-fall, and smile when you realize the voice belongs to none other than the person you’ve been waiting for.
Otoya’s smile is so wide and bright around the piece of toast stuffed between his teeth that it easily reaches his eyes, lighting them up until they glitter pink and gold in the light from the sunrise. He seems to catch himself, then, after staring at you adoringly for several moments with that same grin. He grabs the bread and swallows down his oversized bite heavily and his expression makes a swift shift to something wide-eyed and concerned and you realize he’s out of breath.
“Hey! You really gotta watch yourself, you know? You were leaning back so far I thought you were gonna fall from like…” he pauses and gestures towards the far end of the street, several blocks away, “all the way over there. I ran to catch you…” He giggles boyishly despite his worry. “So lucky I made it in time~” You can’t help but smile at his cute laugh, feeling the warmth of it seep down into your heart and heat up your body, chilled from standing in the winter morning. You apologize for being careless and make sure to tease him a little bit, saying of course he caught you; he’s your hero.
The red that spreads over his cheeks so rapidly is all the reward you need, but as always, Otoya goes above and beyond what’s expected of him. He leans close to you, his free hand sliding down to weave with yours and he nuzzles your forehead before leaning his own against it and sighing pleasantly.
“It’s nice that your voice was the first thing I heard today.” He gives an amused huff when he hears your sharp intake of breath and steals a quick cheek kiss before pulling away with a dangerously-cute glint of mischief in his eyes. “And I’m glad I waited until I could see you to say that, so I could see your reaction!” He laughs again when you cry his name in embarrassment and breaks into a run, forcing you to run after him in a mess of mutual giggles and affection.
