yeah the minecraft movie was a cgi freakshow and the plot was so incredibly basic and simple, and the characters had very little going for them in their backgrounds, but they snuck in a damn good lesson in creativity and art. like there's a line in the end where jack black and the whole group are about to go back to the over world and jack says something like "are you sure you wanna go back? its a hard world out there that tears down creatives like us" and the kid thinks for a second then says "yeah i know, but im gonna go create stuff anyway" which is actually pretty cool, creating for the love of it even when its hard. jack black also has a face off with the big bad and she says that creating is hard but destroying is easy and jack blaxk responds with "yeah i know, thats why only cowards destroy" with the most ridiculous line delivery but it is a way to convey creating for the love of it. im sure if the movie was made even a year later they would've had something directly about ai art but even then they had some pretty good messages in that area. i thought it was pretty funny overall, there wasn't anything clever but it gave the 'old minecraft letsplay' vibe with senseless on the fly humor and stupid behavior. i felt nostalgic watching it :)

This was my exact takeaway. The message of creating even in our tumultuous political climate and the financial situations of many artists, the characters chose to reject escapism and bring creativity into the real world.
