it’s sort of funny how no one seriously thinks the elections in somewhere like Russia are legitimate and correctly identifies the only hope for meaningful change in Russia is either completely overthrowing the government or waiting until Putin dies and hoping for the best

and then you examine somewhere like the US where a plurality of people don’t vote and one of the parties openly attempts to restrict voting while the other makes halfhearted attempts to oppose them, and if you point out the immense structural barriers opposing meaningful change, you’re a doomer or a crazy revolutionary

if we examine the 2020 democratic primary, Bernie Sanders advocated policies that the party rank and file liked more, had far more donors than anyone else (and plenty of money as a result), had by far and away the best ground game, and remains, to this day, significantly more popular than the eventual nominee, Biden. none of that mattered in the face of overwhelming institutional support for Biden and favorable media coverage.
