Steve Rogers was ostracized. Bullied, abused, Restricted and constricted in the 1940s era America. People bullied him for not fitting into the traditional image of masculinity, hated everything about him, and worse mistreated all other groups of humans including women and minorities and disabled folx, habitually. Steve Rogers stood up for others even when he couldn’t stand up for himself. You’re telling me he returned to the most nightmarish society that he suffered under for most of his life? That he fought against? Whose respect he earned was so empty, until he decided to embrace his nature and leave the pageantry facade they set him up under to go fight in the war? You’re telling me that Steve Rogers loved the very society that hated him and others, was ridden with corruption and had a corroded norm of humanity, a place that rejected and abased and abused him and others? The place he wanted to escape but refused to give up trying to better, and prove himself against? A place he fought to make different, a people he wished were better and less vile, every day? You’re telling me he wasn’t delighted and amazed to find a future for this very same place where people were inclusive and fought for the same ideals he did, despite everything they still had to work on? Where for once he wasn’t belittled and derided and had to see others belittled and derided for not fitting into traditional views of masculinity? He was constantly mocked for being feminine, an artist, sensitive and emotionally aware. He was constantly jeered at for sticking up for the helpless. He was always beat up for stepping up for the rights of others instead of tolerating the toxic atmosphere of the society he was born in. This same Steve Rogers, mourning the change in his society and surroundings when he found himself in an accepting world that found nothing wrong with him and in fact applauded his heroic tendencies? I’m sure. The very same Steve Rogers that Bucky Barnes had to consistently pull away from fight after fight? Yeah, Steve Rogers would never.
