A project from last year where I experimented with a Frida Kahlo/Niklas Åkerblad inspired clip studio portrait of Nanu I had drawn. I printed it out in segments on A4 paper, glued it to stretched canvas, covered it in layers of transparent gesso and then painted over the whole thing in oils. The texture is very bad from the underlying A4 paper and no amount of layering and sanding could fix it. I’ve photographed it in lighting that hides this but for anyone wondering, I don’t recommend this method at all.
The painting is not finished and very likely never will be, mostly because it has gotten swallowed up by other projects. The true ending for this is one in which I finish the painting, learn to make silk flowers, and then craft a flower frame of actual silk Nanu gardenias. Then I’d repurpose the closet under the stairs into a shrine for him.
Alas, more consequential matters are demanding my time and attention.
