CALIFORNIA Fort Ross State Historical Park #24569 This Russian Orthodox Church was built about 1824. It collapsed in the 1906 earthquake, but was restored in 1916 and more completely in 1955. The chapel then burned to the ground in 1970, but was again carefully restored in 1973 to its original appearance. The chapel is located in Highway 1 between Gualala and Jenner. The foundations of the bridge extend into the water deeper than any other bridge built by man; one pier was sunk down 242 feet and another 200 feet.
