ILYA ROZANOV HEATED RIVALRY (2025 - ) ▸1x04, rose
i saw this somewhere else but reply / tag what you did today so everyone can see that we all did something different today
I love Wyatt Hayes and I love that the no 1 thing we know about him is that he's a nice fucking guy. He's friendly, he's outgoing, he's helpful! He's just so freaking nice. He decides to befriend Ryan, he decides to befriend Ilya, he does NOT take no for an answer. You WILL be his friend. I love him so much.
Endless gifs of Ilya Rozanov 19/∞

kings of being nonchalant!!

Heated Rivalry is already a romance AND a workplace drama. Expecting it to also be a commentary on toxic sports culture is like asking Grey’s Anatomy to be a commentary on the flaws of the healthcare system in the US.
Like yeah, it can make the occasional remark, but that’s not what it’s about.
To be clear I’m not saying we don’t need commentary on toxic sports culture.
But I am saying that I don’t think the romance we got with Shane & Ilya could possibly exist within a book that was actually designed to be commentary about toxic sports culture, because then they would have to be subject to the realities of of that world, and that just isn’t compatible with the genre.
Could Rachel have done more to address the problems in sports? Yes.
Could she have written a realistic story that accurately reflected the environment that is the modern NHL & still given us lovable characters & a happy ending? No.
Gonna take some inspiration from @raincitygirl76 and reblog my favorite tags on these posts as I get them.
Here’s a great point from @shanehollandertwentyfour
And another form @sweetladyjustice
And from @hollanova
Just… yes. Exactly. To all the above.
Look, I think it’s perfectly valid to point out what you feel is “missing” or different from the real world, and even seek out other works or create your own works that address the things you feel these stories lack.
But before we jump to all the things the stories did “wrong” I think it’s important to understand what the standards are for stories like these in the first place.
