Hi! :D I‘m @rainbow-person (they/them) and I make my own clothes <3

This is my sewing side blog and a place for me to collect my projects, patterns, ideas etc.

Please feel free to talk to me or ask me anything about sewing or crafting in general or anything really!

Fair warning: I am by no means a professional, I’ve never watched a tutorial in my life, also I might not always use the correct English sewing terms so sorry about that, I’m from Germany.

I might not have much to teach anyone in terms of technical knowledge and skills but there is one thing I‘m gonna say:

Sewing is easy and you can do it too <3

This is what the other side looks like, when I bought it I immediately knew I had to embroider my favourite H/W quotes on the back <3 (with my sewing machine btw I didn’t do it that uniformly by hand) anyways I’m very proud of this it’s such a cool object and I can’t wait to spread my message to the world :D (btw the red is inspired by @contact-guy obviously and I love the effect)

not much to say here (: used some fabric scraps for this and the turtle patch is made from recycled PET isn’t that nice <3 I think it turned out really well, I’m especially proud of the tulle waves at the top :D

made this sweater (: close up and rambles under the cut 💐

Ok I didn’t make the sweater, it’s actually my friend‘s grandma‘s and she gave it to me to „cut up and use for sewing if I want“ like hello? it’s made of cashmere and silk, im Not going to do that!! But I did crochet a bunch of different flowers and stems and a little bow and sewed it all on to make a lovely, three dimensional flower bouquet because just a white sweater is a bit too boring for my wardrobe (:

Takes like 5 minutes and is so much more effective than I thought it would be

I don’t think you need a tutorial here it’s literally so simple. Cut the toe part off, fold it inside until it fits your hand, sew and cut off excess, cut a hole into the heel (or just widen the hole that’s probably already there), fold the edges inside, sew, make a fold under the thumb hole to make it fit your hand, sew, there you go

It is done!!! three days of doing this almost nonstop but I’m finally done! The photo really doesn’t do it justice, it glitters and shifts colours like crazy, it looks so, so cool! :D

Now just the planet patches and the star sequins for the rest of the jacket, but that’s so easy compared to this (:

Finally done with the design!!! Also added some gold star elbow patches I bought on a whim ⭐️

I decorated the front with the shimmering star sequins I had left over, since I decided to only use the gold ones on the back, so that it wouldn’t look so boring

Now the only thing to do is do cover the inside with lining to protect all the stitches from accidentally getting caught in something and ripping (: I found the perfect fabric in the second store I looked 🪐☄️👽

Also I made this outfit for a friend of mine (: it was my first time sewing something with just her measurements without it being possible for her to try it on before it was finished. so much maths -_- I was really scared that it wouldn’t fit but it was perfect, also the corset back makes it somewhat adjustable

She wanted a corset top made from a specific fabric that I had left from something else, so the first challenge was that I didn’t have a lot of fabric left and there was basically no room for error 😅 then obviously I had to make a pattern based on her measurements and I also added a white silky lining on the inside because the fabric isn’t very comfortable. The boning is made of big zip ties and for the corset back I first wanted to use actual eyelets but because of the fabric they didn’t work but just ripped a hole into it 🥲 so I used these plastic loops that are attached to a strip of super firm fabric on the inside of the top. The skirt is a half circle skirt (again), they’re so simple and they just look the best in my opinion (:

Here’s the skirt on me, I really love the waistband, and how the top looks in the back when it’s laced up (you can also see where I had to fix the hole ): )

this dress was the first thing I ever made (: I didn’t wear it for a long time though because it was a little loose and I didn’t like how the border between the top and the skirt looked but now I finally made a matching belt that I can wear over it so I think it looks a lot more finished (:

This was tedious. I sewed on every single patch, cause I don’t trust just ironing it and let me tell you that jeans is THICC. Also probably my most expensive project, jeans was 30€ and the patches 2-5€ each. Worth it though :)

Hi (: I‘m not dead <3

I actually have been sewing but i haven’t been on tumblr a lot in the past few months because I’ve had so much to do and I‘ve not really had the energy to post about my projects or take nice photos. so. sorry about that

I will be doing some catching up now though so for the like ten people who will read this, expect some posts about what I’ve been doing this weekend (because right now it’s chill but after that, guess what, I will again have very little time for tumblr probably)

Here are some photos of the Amok Time Spirk cosplay I made for me and my friend for a convention!

It was quite a process honestly. We bought shirts from a thrift store and I altered them to be tight fitting. Then we added the black collar, which was very much eyeballing it but I think it turned out pretty good. We had to put some stealth safety pins in it to wear it though, so that the collar would fit snug to the neck (we couldn’t make them smaller because yk your head has to fit through). The rank stripes are giftwrap and glue lol but honestly they look really accurate (makes me wonder if they didn’t just do the same thing back in the 60s tbh). The insignias we also made ourselves. We cut them out on white fabric and sprayed it with gold spray and then I printed and cut out a stencil and did the black lines with marker.

Also, the most stressful moment in my entire sewing experience had to be cutting the slit into the Kirk uniform. All that work and i just have to cut into it. You better believe I measured and tried it over twenty times before cutting. Also I took a lot of photos before so I’d have something if I ruined it lol

Btw I stuck two pieces of bandaid on the inside at the ends of the slit to prevent it from ripping further.

Yooooo this is awesome! Did you use a specific pattern? I made some Trek shirts a while back but the collar wasn’t right because I was just using a pullover pattern >.<

Thanks! :D I didn't use a pattern, I was honestly just winging it the whole time but here's how l made the collar in the end:

-tighten/alter the shirt so that the collar of the shirt is as close to the neck as (reasonably) possible

-put on the shirt and mark where the collar should start/the shape of the collar and measure how high you want the collar to go (I'd measure the height from the little corner since that's a clearly fixed point)

-cut a big rectangle of stretchy black fabric (I used an old undershirt of my friend)

-lay it inside (see sketch) and adjust the edge to your guidelines and measurements and pin in place. cut excess fabric off if needed

-sew everything on (I only loosely hand sewed the seams that are visible from the outside so that they would barely be visible)

-this will not result in a collar that fits snugly to your neck! If it did your head wouldn't fit through (unless you installed the Star Trek shoulder zippers TM)

-on the day of the cosplay use safety pins to make the collar fit snugly to your neck. since the fabric is all black the fold and if you pin it so that the main part of the safety pins is on the inside, the fold should be barely visible (maybe get some help with this though, it's almost impossible to do on yourself
