That’s all well and good but I genuinely could not give less of a fuck about Vought Rising. I’m not interested in watching it, I don’t even know if I’ll give it a chance, and I do not care about its characters. What I do care about are the characters I’ve been following for years in The Boys, the ones you’ve absolutely butchered this season because you needed to turn the final season into an extended advertisement for a new show I could not care less about.

Everything feels insanely rushed because apparently if you need to put the spotlight on Soldier Boy and the old Vought glory days, there’s suddenly no room left for the actual main cast. The actual protagonists of the fucking series. You killed off A-Train in the first episode, reduced Sister Sage to a glorified plot device with barely a couple minutes of screentime per episode, The Deep has barely had anything to do besides saying “bro” and killing Black Noir, and of course Black Noir and Firecracker vanish for most of the season because we need to keep making space to promote Vought Rising.

And Ryan? Where the fuck is Ryan? One of the characters at the center of the entire Homelander/Butcher conflict gets sidelined because apparently we need more screentime for his biological grandfather and the Soldier Boy drama that half the fandom does not give a shit about. The Gen V characters who were supposedly going to matter this season? Gone. The show gets cancelled in favour of Vought Rising even if that leaves behind a million plot holes.

This should have been Butcher and Homelander’s season. Instead it became Soldier Boy and Friends. What a complete fucking mess.

And don’t even get me started on the Clara stuff. Clara, Clara, Clara I do not give a single fuck about Clara Vought. I’m not interested in her character. I wasn’t even interested in Stormfront back then either, I found her insufferable from day one, and one of the most satisfying moments in the show was Ryan leaving her looking like burnt roadkill.

Honestly it’s very obvious they’re pulling shit out of their ass and have pivoted the direction they were originally going with for soldier boy (and maybe even stormfront) with season five because they A: need to setup vought rising/preemptively tie up characters and B: need soldier boy to support homelander

• he’s first established as having a thing for GILFS,to the point that fresh out of the ice he is making out with one of the first old ladies he meets. (Pretty sure this aspect of his character was dropped because Jensen wasn’t comfortable with it but don’t quote me on that. It’s just weird that it was pretty prominent in season three and nonexistent now and he’s fucking around with firecracker)

• his only mention of stormfront in season three was an implication they fucked and calling her a firecracker. More prominence is given to his relationship and proclaimed love for crimson countess and his thing for gilfs than any relationship he might have had with stormfront. But suddenly now in season five he’s pining after and in love with her. He claims he spent his time being experimented on waiting for crimson countess to save him and not stormfront/liberty? The objectively stronger supe?

• on top of that there is not a single mention of soldier boy from stormfront in season two even though she has no problem talking about her marriage (and the fact she’s a Nazi) with homelander and has no reason to /not/ mention soldier boy. Maybe it’ll be revealed the relationship was one sided like his one with crimson countess in vought rising but considering it won’t matter for the boys I don’t really care.

• nothing about his toxic masculinity and characterisation in season three and season four lines up with the fact that homelander also sleeping with and stormfront being in love with homelander would actively make him like homelander more. Or why soldier boy suddenly seems to care about what stormfront would have wanted (especially since homelander himself didn’t really care what she wanted and that’s why she offer herself)

Hell literally the fact that homelander sees soldier boy having a breakdown after killing random vought rising char no.1 and doesn’t kill him alone shouldn’t have been enough to suddenly have soldier boy switch up on homelander the way he did.

I literally can not imagine why they thought this was a good direction to take the story in the last season or even soldier boys character other than as a way to setup vought rising and get people interested in watching it. Every single interaction with V1 supes or mention of them just seems like the writers dangling them in front of the audience and saying “ooooh don’t you want to know more about this!”

It’s especially egregious with how under utilised gen v and its characters have been despite the fact it was MEANT to build up to/lead into the final season and these characters are still active and should be relevant.

Like you’re telling me Marie is the only other successful test subject from the project that created homelander but somehow all of soldier boys ex teammates and whatever he had going on with stormfront is more important? Especially considering the fact that despite having a plan for season three they didn’t have it greenlit lol. But sure give us closures for characters from a spinoff that’s not even out yet instead of wrapping up the characters you’ve already introduced.

So Soldier Boy was completely in love with Clara Vought… weren’t we told that his great love was Crimson Countess, the same one he himself said in the damn third season that he had considered having children with, and that he had even told her he truly loved her, and that her betrayal hurt him a lot because of that?? Are they just going to lobotomise his characterisation or what? Because out of all the damn inconsistencies they’re introducing two episodes before the finale for the sake of promoting the new series, this is the one that genuinely has me pissed off, because it basically ruins an entire storyline from another season for no reason whatsoever.

I’m genuinely upset about the Soldier Boy and Stormfront love story suddenly being shoved down our throats. Not only is it incredibly forced when the man never even mentioned her name except for a brief mention of a hookup in the third season (as he did for MANY people), not only is it taking away time to develop the characters we’ve known for five seasons, but it is extremely problematic. In my opinion.

It’s no secret that Soldier Boy’s draw is Jensen Ackles. He’s acting his ass off, and he’s the only reason anyone can find his despicable character engaging. So why are the writers choosing to pair a character like him with such a wide fanbase to a Nazi? Why is it okay to give Nazis any sort of love when the rise of fascism has become a global issue AGAIN? To prepare for a fucking spin-off?

Personally? I don’t want to see a love story with a Nazi. I don’t want to see someone who played a childhood comfort character play the role of a man falling in love with a Nazi. My grandparents fought Nazis, and I loathe the idea that this fucking show is normalizing fascism.

This “love story” isn’t parody. It’s just sick. And I don’t know what the fuck to say when my teenage students talk about how hot Soldier Boy is when he’s crushing on a fucking Nazi.

just finished watching ep 6 of the boys and i... Genuinely i need that if people who watched it and didnt feel like soldier boy was getting mischaracterized, please tell me why. Try to make me see reason. Because atp im like, sure this is for Vought Rising but since uh when does soldier boy LOVE Klara Vought? I mean, LOVE LOVE.

We knew he fucked her, we knew it was good and that they made Herogasm together. But that comment in season 3 doesnt make you think he LOVED her and wanted to spend his life with her, but we DID know that he felt that way (kinda) about Crimson Countess because he says he wanted a family with her and whatever. From that we gather that Ben didnt love Klara, he just fucked her. WHY IS HE ALL OF A SUDDEN SO IN LOVE WITH THE NAZI BITCH?

Im not even bothered by the fact that he has a romantic interest or anything like that, but the thing is that suddenly a character thats been DEAD for two whole seasons is so important out of the blue.

On the other side i understand is something to make Ben and Homelander fight, of course and something that they "share" in common. The thing is, it makes no sense for it and i feel like Soldier boy was an interesting character with lots of plot that could be really good to explore, but they chose to only highlight his romantic relationship with Stormfront which to me isnt really that interesting and shouldnt be that deep.

On another topic, i feel like this is building up to Vought rising being really focused on it and to me it just feels icky. I wanna know about the origins of bought and the old timey supes, not about romance. And CERTAINLY not romance with a nazi bitch.

Anyways, end of my rant. I just really hated that aspect of specifically this episode because to me it seemed even more out of pocket than him longlingly staring at her picture at Mr. MARATHON'S home.
