“It is terrible to be alone. I don’t mean to live alone— to be alone, where no one hears you.”
— Louise Glück, from “Averno” in Poems 1962-2012
I found these gifs I made a while back for a site that’s not running anymore, so I thought I’d post them here. It’s a description of psychiatric symptoms and states of mind using a pink box and some other stuff.
Love this^
I judge how good a book is based on how disoriented I am with my physical surroundings after closing it.
you and your body need nutrients. please make sure you are eating enough food and drinking enough water and getting enough sleep, you matter so much and i don’t want anything to happen to you
no offense but i want every little kid to be safe and have a good childhood
Mental illness has ruined my fucking life, don’t ever tell me that it’s a choice
“Healthy eating” is context-specific and not accessible to everyone, but in general and roughly in order of priority, it entails
eating enough food
eating consistently
eating a variety of foods
eating foods you enjoy
That’s it! You don’t need to buy my book or come to my seminar or sign up for my program!
you are irreplaceable – nobody has your exact combination of great qualities; nobody can contribute what you do
me: i love books so much, reading is my life
also me: *hasn’t finished a book in 4 months*
It wasn’t meant to be. You’re not missing out. Your life has different plans for you.
one of the many illuminating discoveries from the minnesota semi-starvation experiment (which we draw on so heavily bc it’s the only controlled experiment of its kind) was that even non-eating-disordered people develop the patterns which we identify with clinical eating disorders when they’re forced to maintain an energy deficit. the subjects of the mse got obsessive, compulsive, ritualistic, and secretive about food. their personalities changed markedly–they became withdrawn, irritable, and in some cases dissociated.
this is why refeeding is so essential to recovery, and such an unexpected gift in many ways to those of us who imagine that we’ll be doing recovery or life in the long term w the same cognitive states that we suffered in the eating disorder. but being fed changes things drastically, and that’s great news
