at the start of 358/2 days, one of axel's first questions during roxas's orientation is the name of the organization's leader

then during the prologue of 2, while roxas is slowly regaining the memories that were wiped when he was put in the simulated twilight town, axel attempts to confirm that roxas truly does remember him by asking the question again:

axel is honestly in a pretty terrible situation here, being tasked with hunting down his fugitive best friend or face destruction himself, a friend that has no recollection of the year they spent together growing close to one another, and so when he finally sees a spark of recognition in roxas's mind he seizes onto it by asking the very same question he did when they first met; it's the "i know you're in there somewhere" trope used by someone who from roxas's (and the player's) perspective is an antagonist at this point. it's a heartbreaking detail that's very easy to miss, even after playing both games
