For contrast and an idea of how badly deep sea creatures hold up when they’re brought to the surface, this specimen was one of our only glimpses of the same species before this footage:
It’s almost unrecognizable as the same fish. Our image of many deep sea creatures can be as incomplete as our image of some dinosaurs. Another example:
This is a typical dead specimen of a whip nosed anglerfish, caught in traps and brought to the surface. The first recording of one in the wild was only a couple years ago, and it revealed that they swim upside-down:
We don’t know why, and we don’t know if they do this 100% of the time or just when they’re hunting.

I just uploaded a new video! I think you can tell what it’s about!
You can find it here: https://youtu.be/zI50lD9TYfc
I think I make decent thumbnails, what do you think? I would also like to use this post as an opportunity to thank the Fishblr community from the bottom of my heart. You have all been so incredibly supportive and welcoming of me. A couple of my very first posts made it past 100 notes, and I just can’t even begin to tell you all how encouraging that is. Thank you!!
fishkeeping is now gay culture 🐟🏳️🌈
Last night after being moved to a hospital tank and treated for Popeye and Dropsy, my beautiful betta passed away. I can’t help but to blame myself, as in recent months his tank was becoming more and more overcrowded with guppies as they bred. I saw it was stressing him out and I had plans to set up a 10 gallon just for him, I just waited too long I guess. You live and your learn. RIP Shiny Betta, I loved you.
my first batch of baby shrimp! ive been waiting for this so long, i’m so excited!!!
Does anyone know what this plant is?? Was in a tank at a store but the only person working was busy
Looks like Aponogeton Ulvaceus
me, looking at my aquariums:
i love u fish i ain’t ever gonna stop loving u fish
Can anyone help me identify this plant? It was originally sold to me as Dwarf Sag. But it continues to grow taller and taller. This entire time I’ve been thinking it’s just regular Sagittaria, but as you can see in the third pic, it’s now making a canopy at the top. The first picture is when I first got them The second is just a couple months ago And the third is them currently, after giving them root tabs. Is this a type of Vallisneria? I plan to auction some of these plants off on aquabid, however I don’t want to mislabel them. Any help is greatly appreciated!

If I was a betta jars/cups would give me ptsd
when u come home to see ur shrimp molted
when they do it again the next day
so apparently my rabbit snail had a baby… (on the left) super surprised but excited!
Because of this post I just realized the pet store sold me two Rabbit Snails instead of two Malaysian Trumpet Snails.
I thought they looked weird...
And no wonder they were $8 a piece!
My Gold Twin Bar Platy (first pic) and Bumblebee Platy (second pic) mated and made the cutest babies ever! I can’t wait until they’re mature!
“Bro… wtf?” [full video]
I had no idea baby lumpsucker fish are this cute. They’re also just a really cool group of fish. I’m going to let Scientific American’s beautiful phrasing stand for itself about these little guys:
“Available for birthday parties, weddings and corporate functions in the Under the Sea region, the lumpsucker is a chubby, almost-spherical fish with modified pelvic fins that have evolved into adhesive discs on their undersides. So literally lumps with suckers. (…) Other than looking like swollen eyeballs… with eyeballs… lumpsuckers have some pretty strange things going on. For one, they’re pretty awful swimmers, thanks to their round bodies and tiny fins, and when disturbed they tend to flap around aimlessly in different directions. Which is not how escape generally happens. As newly hatched larvae they are surprisingly well developed, equipped with a fully functional mouth and well-developed digestive system. This allows them to begin feeding on tiny crustaceans and fish just 10 days after hatching. Sometimes they’ll resort to eating each other because nature.”
@bunjywunjy Look at them!! LOOK!!!
A HAT THAT IS ALSO A FRIEND
They don’t even look real o_O
do u ever just get a new tank and then realize its gonna cost an arm and a leg to get plants/decor and u just
It doesn’t have to be that way.
For decor you can use driftwood from nearby ponds and lakes.
You can use rocks from outside, stack them, super glue them together, etc. as long as you make sure they won’t change your water chemistry first by dropping a bit of vinegar on the rock and seeing if it bubbles. If it does, don’t use it! If not, you’re in the clear.
For plants you can always collect plants from nearby lakes and ponds. Hornwort and duckweed are very common but you can find some pretty interesting ones! If you do this make sure you dip your plants in a watered down bleach solution, followed by soaking them in a double dose solution of dechlorinator for over an hour.
However the much easier safer solution is ordering a plant assortment from aquabid! You can find great assortments to fill 10 gallon aquariums for under $15. And that’s including shipping!
Substrate, filters, decor, plants, you name it, there’s a cheap solution!
I created this aquarium for only $60!-
