You're telling me it takes the joy out of eating and it turns you into a skeleton. Why did we turn The Curse of the Black Pearl into a drug. What the fuck.
I actually want to thank the diabetics coming on this post like "actually it genuinely is a great treatment for diabetes and it hasn't affected my mood or my enjoyment of food. The real issue is it's getting abused as a weight loss drug which also makes it scarce and more expensive for those who can genuinely benefit from it." Kind of reminds me of the time my brother got permission from our family psychiatrist to try my ADHD medication and his reaction to it was "what the fuck are you on. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU ON. WHY DO I FEEL LIKE CRYING. YOU'RE ON THIS EVERY DAY!?!"

Thinking about Project Hail Mary and how successful it was as a movie while being about using science and the power of friendship to solve a space mystery.
And then i think about how that's basically Star Trek's whole thing, but none of the Trek movies (with the possible exception of The Voyage Home) are actually about that. And like...why? Why does it feel like such a grim certainty that any Star Trek movie likely to come out will be about an angry melodramatic space villain out for Revenge? How did we get here?
My only conclusion is that no one ever got over Wrath of Khan. And that's not the movie's fault either because Ricardo Montalban was that good.
it’s good for you to look at things that make you lightheartedly say “ew” while snickering like a little kid and then carry on. i say this genuinely. it will shift your knee-jerk reaction towards things that mildly disgust you away from fear
sometimes it’s bugs. sometimes it’s a funny-looking doll at an antique store. sometimes it’s bad art that you made.
and sometimes it’s someone else’s food preferences. sometimes it’s a weird-but-normal thing that human bodies do. sometimes it’s someone else’s kink.
obviously, be respectful, and keep the reaction in your head when you’re in public. but the sooner you can separate disgust from fear, the sooner you can show empathy

when a government bans young people from using social media, and then categorises messenger apps like Signal and WhatsApp as "social media", they are pushing those young people toward using text messages, a fundamentally insecure form of communication. texts are not encrypted in transit and can be read by both the sender's mobile carrier and the recipient's. that also means they can be leaked in data breaches, subpoenaed, or just handed over willingly to law enforcement at the carriers' discretion.
hmm. I wonder why governments might want this
Imagine going on a movie date with a girl and she shows up to the movie theatre with a big huge fuckoff suspiciously large purse so you assume she’s maybe sneaking in snacks but the movie starts and you look over and she’s in the middle of a knitting project. She gets up halfway through the film to use the bathroom and accidentally knocks over her bag and balls of yarn go rolling down the aisle in the empty movie theatre like tumbleweeds and you have to go running after them. I think I’d marry her.
One of my favorite things about loving someone or developing a closeness or fondness towards someone is also loving and developing a fondness for the things they care about. When you learn to see the world in a new way, or you learn to appreciate the things you’ve previously overlooked, or they become your excuse to get into an interest you always thought was cool but thought you didn’t have time for. When a connection makes your world bigger and warmer and fuller and more beautiful.
It would be kind of fun to have a medical dramamedy show where people (patients and people in the medical field) could submit their craziest experiences with the medical system and those plotlines and patient stories could be dramatized and woven into a cohesive narrative with any additional profits from the show going to pay off medical debt.
Pay medical debt? That’s bullshit. A for-profit system that is fundamentally flawed for making money from people’s suffering and desperation shouldn’t be shored up by Go-Fund-Me and bake sales and white knight debt buyers. It should be made illegal. No amount of comedy should ever make the morally indefensible even the least bit palatable.

me: I think it would be cool if there was a show where people could share their whacky experiences with our extremely flawed medical system and the profits could be used to aid medical debt. You know, since people already share their experiences with the deeply flawed medical system for free for awareness and entertainment.
